Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 17
Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 17.
The New Year is here, but don’t worry GW17 is bound to disappoint you in the same ways the previous 16 gameweeks did in 2020. Everton and West Ham get it rolling with the early Friday game and Manchester United hosts Villa in the second and last game of the day.
Saturday brings us four more fixtures. Spurs welcome in Leeds, Palace gets 3 easy points vs Sheffield, Brighton tangles with Wolves and in the last game we see Championship contenders West Brom play Arsenal.
Sunday gives us three more matchups. Burnley play Fulham, Toon take on Leicester and then Chelsea duke it out with City.
Monday sees the last remaining fixture when Saints take on Liverpool.
The games in full…

Ugh Soucek first on my bench again ☹️
I have never wanted any attacker in my starting 11 to be rested as much as I do now.
11 points on the bench is a deep chest wound.
Sorry about the rant
I am seeing so many teams with Soucek and Coufal on their bench.
Well, if it’s any consolation he’s second on my bench.
But I can truthfully say – as I’m sure you can – that the thought of this did not come between me and my sleep last night. And given the number of points I’ve fluked off the bench so far this season, I feel philosophical about it.
For me not so much a deep chest wound, more one of those sharp piercing bittersweet moments, like a second’s memory of some lost love.
The sharp piercing bittersweet moments happened earlier in the season when he got 7 and 9 points seated on the bench for me.
The 11 pointer was just too much for me :suicide:
I have soucek and Coufal on my bench too. Here’s hoping for plenty of rotation. :wink2:
This is literally the reason I sold him. He wasn’t starting and it’s just hard seeing him sitting on your bench with a haul.
First time to see “live” 90 minutes of Grealish.
Gosh he is an absolute class.
I wish United would snap him up. Aside from his continual falling over, he’s my favourite player to watch right now.
Aren’t you an arsenal fan, cookie?
I’m planning to Free Hit in Gameweek 18, as I’m sure many other FPL managers will be… Just holding fire in case they cancel the games (don’t want to waste my free chip).
This is the team I’m thinking to go with… what do you think?
My alternative team would have:
– Fernandez (Newcastle) > Kilman
– Grealish > Rashford
– Martial > Calvert-Lewin
I know all of us will have slightly different team values, but if you were wildcarding GW18 what squad would you select?
I think with the chance of games getting cancelled, and its only 2 or 3 days between you’re much better saving the chips.
My plan is to have 9 players. Then I could take a -4 to have 8 dgw players in 19. Also enough if your not playing a bb
I don’t think you can claim that it’s much better to save the chips as it’s dependent on everyone’s team set up. I’ve only got 5 players for GW18 so using my FH is clearly the most suitable strategy for my team.
I was going off the above team. Of course different team will need to play to suit their own players
I only have 5 players that are currently playing in GW18
– Dias
– Fernandes
– Son
– Calvert-Lewin
– Kane
Think it’s worth getting a full 11 out, and then I should have 12 DGWs in GW19 when my squad reverts back to normal.
That’s a nice team. Only concern is if Shaw starts or is rotated.
I’d go with something like this if I were using FH.
Given the current climate I’d want a stronger bench.
I think I’d take a punt on a Villa player and maybe a tad more Arsenal but that seems ok to me. As KW sez, the bench needs a bit of work.
Not doing it myself so harder to engage.
Me neither, I’ll just be curious after the GW to see the points difference if I had of played it
Advice please:
For Blank GW18 – Kane + Rodrigo OR Lacazette + Grealish
I’m on the FH chip and I can afford both sets easily. Happy New Year Everybody
Rodrigo? Rodrigo who plays for Leeds?
Manchester City Rodrigo :big-lol:
That makes a lot more sense
If we could be sure that Lacazette starts I’d probably go with himself & Grealish.
Thanks Kop; but I wasn’t sure City Rodrigo would play fully either so lesser of the two evils.
After last week having 6 players missing from the 2 cancelled games, this is not the best way to start this gameweek.
I can’t catch a break atm
Ouch
Hey mate – I’m in the same situation (Soucek + Coufal) but in fact it’s reassuring, in that even your bench is performing and can provide reasonable results if needed. Especially reassuring for the BB if you want to use it. It’s all a game and the fact that we’ve left the WHU boys on the bench is just one of those things. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don’t – due to the fact that your team’s peformance depends on what happens on the field – player’s fortunes fluctuate daily and it is far from being an exact scienc (basically what you’re doing is trying to predict the probability of certain things happening) as there are so many variables. Don’t worry – it’s better than if your benchies were getting 1 or -1!!!)
That’s horrible, mate!
I also have Creswell 1st on my bench but at least Soucek is in my starting XI. I feel for you and hope at least one of them comes on for you.
cheers guys, i’ve got Gundogan and Stones starting so maybe Pep will rotate like he loves to do
I’m thinking of getting rid of DCL anyone else thinking the same?
I am. I’m sorry I held him on my WC and I’m now considering ditch him for a DGW player.
Got rid for vardy as vardy has Newcastle and a dgw.
Yeah..He’s blanked in his last 5 games in terms of goals albeit he got 3 assists within that period.I feel there are better options with the imminent DGW
In theory his supply should be improving as key personnel return from injury.
May review after the Newcastle game.
This would probably be the prudent approach, yes.
There’s this to consider, not sure if it helps.
