Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Oh yeah, with FPL back that also means ‘Bore off’ returns. I have went back to that old well and gathered the 3 amigos up for you to get their thoughts on some of the questions that we all want answered as the season draws closer.

For those that don’t know them or don’t know them well, let me introduce you to them.

Init is one of our site owners, he enjoys being a disciplinarian, hates typos and those with a lack of attention to detail. He also would prefer to not take walks on the beach and is not fond of puppies. Other than that, he is a great guy.

Cookie is also a site owner. He lives in Monaco, enjoys laying on the beach and taking pictures while he drinks his wine. He doesn’t like to hear about the details and enjoys typos.

Kop also a site owner and overall grouch, might be last on this list, but he is certainly not least, in particular in the grumpy category. If you ever need a pick me up, look somewhere else!!

Ok, enough of the heartfelt intros, let’s get it on!

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

Love a good GABO article. Thanks to all involved. Superb, as always. Some interesting thoughts in here. I’ve personally always played 3-4-3 but very tempted not to start it like that this year. Currently on a 5 back, but doubt it’ll stick like that!

really tempted to go with a 532 this season, it atleast start that way. There are some great attacking defenders at good prices this season.

5 seems a bit much for me. I can see why someone would go 4 though

I have been in the same boat on defenders, leaning 4 with a possible decent 5th to rotate with cheap mids or a forward. But I am starting to slowly lean back towards some mids. I know he could be dropped quickly, but Martial is hard to pass on for me, when he plays he is points, has that Walcott from a couple of years ago feel to him. Plus there is Pedro who might fit right in with Sarri, in particular if Haz and Willian are off like some seem to think. Plus players like Townsend if he keeps creating like he did last season, think he was top for big chances created and top for attempted assists. Theo, Maddison, Ramsey all look interesting. Cairney, Jota, Ralls from the promoted teams are also options. Anderson from Hammers might turn out good, but his fixtures are not nice.

Anyone likeing Jota as a pick ??

I’m so hot and cold on Jota and Ses I really can’t decide. They both could be gold

Maybe, but he will have to be the Gross of this season to be worth it and remember Gross came in at 5.5 not 6.5

Teams who got promoted last season averaged
      0.74
      0.89
      1.03
goals per game last season. So you be investing on a player whose team is likely going to score 35-39 goals all season long. Now if you get a guy who has a high involvement percentage wise in his team’s goals then it makes sense. I wouldn’t have two from promoted teams like I have seen on some drafts though. Fernandinho outscored every other mid besides Gross from a promoted team and we all know his role at City.

      • AT says:

This is a really crucial point. My (pretty basic, I admit) expected goals predictor has Wolves to get 35, Cardiff 41and Fulham 37. This is based on this performances last season though, so some big signings by Wolves might alter this. It is too easy to get blinded by Championship stats I think. I’ll do some analysis later, but I remember that Gross had over 40% contribution in goals/assists at his old club (although Tom Ince had 40+% too!)

        • AT says:

          Their*
I need my edit function quick laugh

        • What makes it even harder is how quickly we give up on a player who is not proven. Many will be for Jota, but if he doesn’t do nothing in a week or two everyone will sell. It is also hard to believe in a player when they do get going a bit, it took me a bit to get Gross in as I figured I was just chasing points.

Yeah, Wolves are the only team I see possibly breaking that low goals average for promoted teams. As they seem to have the money to invest, so they could end up with a side that could hang in there with the mid tier teams in terms of goals.

      • Silvers says:

I like that Mito21 I do thk Wolves could do well they have a good side & will probably spend more but I agree somewhat 6.5m for a MF from a team that’s just been promoted is a lot to ask

      • Kralin says:

I’m very wary of newly promoted teams’ players, other than as bench players. If one starts looking hot then he can easily be brought in.

I think the two stand outs last season, Gross and Lössl, didn’t play in the Championship.

I hope more that someone like Ings (for exampe) will end up getting guaranteed minutes somewhere. I may be more tempted by that sort of player rather than a relative unknown.
