Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Oh yeah, with FPL back that also means ‘Bore off’ returns. I have went back to that old well and gathered the 3 amigos up for you to get their thoughts on some of the questions that we all want answered as the season draws closer.

For those that don’t know them or don’t know them well, let me introduce you to them.

Init is one of our site owners, he enjoys being a disciplinarian, hates typos and those with a lack of attention to detail. He also would prefer to not take walks on the beach and is not fond of puppies. Other than that, he is a great guy.

Cookie is also a site owner. He lives in Monaco, enjoys laying on the beach and taking pictures while he drinks his wine. He doesn’t like to hear about the details and enjoys typos.

Kop also a site owner and overall grouch, might be last on this list, but he is certainly not least, in particular in the grumpy category. If you ever need a pick me up, look somewhere else!!

Ok, enough of the heartfelt intros, let’s get it on!

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

Do people think setting up with only the first 5/6 games in mind is a good bet for this season? Seems that the attacking players have a lot of question marks over them so a 5-3-2, 4-4-2, etc seems to be a good way to start the season so we can hopefully get some answers to those question marks? I don’t really like planning to WC early but this season it seems more appealing. What are people’s thoughts on this?

May well have to Matt given the unusual amount of PL players who played the whole World Cup this time. Not a fan of an early WC but could be a necessity this time. What it does also give is that opportunity to assess early doors and jump on a few early bandwagons.

      • Matt says:

That’s exactly what I’m thinking like pretty much the entire Belgian team was premier league players and then obviously England so that’s nearly 46 players who made it to the semis and probably won’t play GW1 and 2. Yeah the bargains/bandwagons feel like they will be very important this season.

      Matt

Bluntly, just set a team up to do well. That’s as much as we can hope for.

You may guess that I’m not a fan of grand plans at this stage of the season.

I think there are enough good attacking options outwith the latter stage world cup players. Aguero, Aubameyang, Firmino etc to get by.

      • Matt says:

You have a good point there GP. I don’t usually plan this far ahead and tend to just set up a team just feels like there’s more uncertainty with the WC players but I keep forgetting the Brazilians and Argentinians will be joining up soon.

My philosophy is to set up as strong as I can for the first few weeks, not to have a nervous breakdown if Salah blanks in GW1 (and Keita scores 2), and take it from there.

If the side is falling to pieces then the first international break is a good time to fix it. My only vague plans at the moment are to move for Arsenal players after GW2.

Hey lads, another season to prove that we’re better then actual pl managers..
So for now I’m stuck with this one.. Obviously waiting for some nice transfers to happen.. But if not – I guess with a little bit of luck I’ll be fine with this one.. Main concerns: martial? My goalie without backup and cairney guy.. Any thoughts? You know any bargain mid for 4,5 better than the lad on the bench?

    • 30.1

Just get Ryan’s back-up for 4.0 so you always have a keeper. As far as the 4.5 guys go keep an eye on Puncheon, Gunnarsson, Ward (4 goals in pre-season) and Chalobah to see if any of them are predicted to start. Martial you know what you get, a high ceiling guy who could be benched after a week or two. It is a risk, but it is one that you are not going blindly into. Rest looks fine to me.

      • xaoc says:

Hi Mito. You mean Ward from Cardiff? Do you know what position he started on? He appeared a total of under 600 minutes for them in the Championship, scoring 4 goals. So goals/min ratio are good, but he doesn’t seem to be a set starter.

I am going for a punt on Puncheon following Cabaye’s departure and RLC going back to Chelsea. Opening fixtures are also good, so one good game and you can capitalize on value, as many early WC-ers will bring him in.

        • @XAOC, yeah mate the one from Cardiff. I am not sure if he will start and surely a good Cardiff signing will make him a no go, but I know he had a long injury last season, so that didn’t help his minutes. Think he had a knee problem or something and he was out for several months. Just keeping an eye on him from a distance. Looks like they use him up top, so that be nice to have a 4.5 mid playing striker. smile

      Kralin says:

Looks like it’s shaping up nicely. Like you, I brought in Martial recently (when I heard (anecdotally, I haven’t researched it yet)) that he’ll be starting as a striker. Mata has apparently been given the nod as well. Either could hold the fort for the first couple of weeks.

I’ve been intrigued to see the Douglas interest. Personally I’d look at some of the Bournemouth guys ahead of him, or maybe Keane. May not be a bad idea to see how he, and Wolves, settle into the league before taking the plunge.

Then again, he may be a punt who works out brilliantly.

Arnie – are we sure he’ll play up front? West Ham’s fixtures are terrible. In the appeling 7m bracket Everton, Palace and Southampton strikers may be safer.

      • Kralin says:

        ‘appealing’

        • szatan says:

Yeah Matrial can you be a curse or a adult blessing at the beginning.. Knowing mourinho he won’t hold his place.. The Douglas guy looks decent (and I’m not talking about clean sheet potential). Funny thing for me that he actually played in a shit candy league in my country and became champions with Lech poznan..
And about arnie.. Hmm West ham will be improved since last year, hell definitely start and I rate him higher than chicharito so fingers crossed :p

      • xaoc says:

Martial might start on the left, with Sanchez up top. Still great value and I have also slotted him in.

      • chins says:

I think Sanchez will be the better option. Even if his position changes, he should still be a starter when the WC boys return. Can’t say the same for Martial.
