Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Oh yeah, with FPL back that also means ‘Bore off’ returns. I have went back to that old well and gathered the 3 amigos up for you to get their thoughts on some of the questions that we all want answered as the season draws closer.

For those that don’t know them or don’t know them well, let me introduce you to them.

Init is one of our site owners, he enjoys being a disciplinarian, hates typos and those with a lack of attention to detail. He also would prefer to not take walks on the beach and is not fond of puppies. Other than that, he is a great guy.

Cookie is also a site owner. He lives in Monaco, enjoys laying on the beach and taking pictures while he drinks his wine. He doesn’t like to hear about the details and enjoys typos.

Kop also a site owner and overall grouch, might be last on this list, but he is certainly not least, in particular in the grumpy category. If you ever need a pick me up, look somewhere else!!

Ok, enough of the heartfelt intros, let’s get it on!

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

Thanks for the write up, GABO always a good read!

Here’s my first draft. Definitely gonna tweak it when more transfers are coming in. Similar to the sentiments of many, I think a strong defence is the way to go for now. I also don’t mind an early wildcard when the wc players are ready to hit the ground.

Looks decent to me. Obviously keep an eye on Mendy in pre season but we get to see community shield anyway

You may want to think about Kun and perhaps Martial instead of your two Arsenal players for the first fortnight, then switch back to them once the dust settles from their tricky opening fixtures. Siggy is another thought.

Hughes of Watford may be a better bet than Cairney, if you’re stuck with a 5m mid.

      • Surf14 says:

You’re right, Aguero and Martial has the same price as them 2 arsenal boys. 1 more point to take into consideration. I’m not too sure about Watford and Gracia, but I’ll monitor their preseason.

    GABO – living the dream.

After reviewing the comments and dealing with my own bi/tri/quad-lemma; I wondered if the following formula might summarise our predicament.

FFL Team = [(High price stars + solid performers + cheeky cheap punt + oh shit ran out of money and who might make it onto the pitch 4m options) – (world cup woes, I deserve a break from my six figure salary per week package coz I’m tired)] x (new manager hype impact) x {(rotation risk coefficient)^(2 if in Europe)} x (I will try really hard not to plan to play WC in GW4 tantrum)] / [(risk of underperforming in my ML x not doing as well as last year x appearing to other half not to be spending ‘valuable’ our time playing FFL)]

Sound familiar to anyone or is just me….

The 2 most expensive goalkeepers in the whole world are Brazilian, who’d have thought it? The World’s gone mad.

With liverpool strengthening their midfield with fabinho and keita and now adding alisson. Their defence should now have better protection in front of it and a top keeper behind it. There will be a 5 mil option playing there too in matip, Trent Alexander Arnold and lovren but we have to wait too see who will be 1st choice.

With arsenal bringing in uni emery and making signings to strengthen their defence and adding torriera a much needed cdm. Do arsenal look likely to improve? Gw 1 and 2 are tough but we can use those games to see where they are.

Sarriball comes to chelsea. A different footballing philosophy than conte, mourinho and rafa benitez had. How will the players adapt to his high pressing and high work rate style. There are potential bargains in this chelsea squad.

The world cup affecting all the top sides players pre season preparations. Who’s going to make the gw1 squads. We’re trying to find out any information we can but we won’t really know untill the first news press conferences of the season.

Plus all the usual new transfers coming in. Will they flop or succeed, players showing great form preseason. Who will continue it into the season.

All of this means I’m playing an early wild card. The first international break is the most logical point. 4 games worth of information and we’ll hopefully have most of the stuff above answered.

Bloody ell that ended up a long post just to say I’m doing an early wild card.

Thanks for keeping us abreast of the situation 😉

Haha seriously though most people will be thinking similarly with regard to the uncertainty but I’m not convinced that planning in such an early WC is the best approach. Sure you might end up deciding to (play it) when GW4 comes, but you may end up doing more harm than good if you set up just for those weeks.

My advice would be to make a team you think will be solid for the season, and make small adjustments accordingly as players come back from the World Cup etc. Planning is important in FPL, but I do think planning to use one of your most powerful chips after just 4 weeks could hinder rather than help.

Just my thoughts and I’m sure others will have their own thoughts on this.

If you keep writing essays Init will scoop you up and make you start writing for the site, so stop now 😉

Also, get Rosco that bloody edit button. He’s all over the shop this morning; it was a fine rank, but no need to boast about it 😉

      Cimon says:

I rarely look beyond 6 weeks. Some people usually stay in my side throughout a season but only 3 or 4. I don’t make solid plans as when you do they’re usually up the wall after 2 gws anyway. At least knowing I’m wildcarding in the first international break means I can take a few early risks with plenty of time to catch up if they fail or kick on from a good start.

      • Rosco77 says:

Fair enough buddy, if you’re set on it who am I to persuade you otherwise! Every chance it works out well and you could steal a march on those of us who don’t take advantage of the ‘fill in’ players who take advantage of the World Cup rested players!
So who are you looking at for the next 4 weeks?

        • Cimon says:

Triple liverpool attack, Gundogan/Bernard silva, lamela, might double up on everton defence coleman and whichever 4.5 mil cb looks 1st choice. If everton don’t sign another cb. Just keep an eye out for anyone in good pre season form. Redmond has scored in 2 matches so far.

        • AT says:

You confident Bernardo and Lamela will start? Guess it’s preseason we need to wait for.

    • 35.4
      Cimon says:

Not confident about Bernardo so will need a strong bench replacement. With son going to the Asian games I think lamela will play. Lamela scored an hatrick last night too.

Does anyone know why the FF247 site can’t be opened on a desktop? It just goes to a blank page showing Index and nothing else. Never had this problem before.
