Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Oh yeah, with FPL back that also means ‘Bore off’ returns. I have went back to that old well and gathered the 3 amigos up for you to get their thoughts on some of the questions that we all want answered as the season draws closer.

For those that don’t know them or don’t know them well, let me introduce you to them.

Init is one of our site owners, he enjoys being a disciplinarian, hates typos and those with a lack of attention to detail. He also would prefer to not take walks on the beach and is not fond of puppies. Other than that, he is a great guy.

Cookie is also a site owner. He lives in Monaco, enjoys laying on the beach and taking pictures while he drinks his wine. He doesn’t like to hear about the details and enjoys typos.

Kop also a site owner and overall grouch, might be last on this list, but he is certainly not least, in particular in the grumpy category. If you ever need a pick me up, look somewhere else!!

Ok, enough of the heartfelt intros, let’s get it on!

FIXTURE TRACKER 2018/19

It’s been a busy summer already with Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Chelsea appointing new managers, Manchester City adding to their already dominant squad, Man Utd continuing to splash the cash and Liverpool trying to protect Karius by beefing up their midfield. Spurs may even have a new home soon.

And FPL wise, this is the place to discuss strategy, learn about the promoted teams and their players while in the days and weeks to come we’ll have plenty of articles, interviews, player analysis, Bore Offs, Tips, etc, etc.

So be sure to get involved in the discussions, the RMTs and the banter as we look forward to another season of Fantasy fun!

So United started their friendly season in Mourinho-style : 1-1 draw with Mata the goalscorer.

Apparently Martial didn’t have the best of games up front; isolated and not really involved.

Bailly messed up for their goal, Smalling did well and Shaw put a shift in.

Martial seemed to have a few decent chances early doors but after that he wasn’t supported according to the match report. Seemingly came off injured although could just be precautionary.

    Hey guys, how’s everyone doing?
    Here we go again.
    Any thoughts on this team?

      Hey mum!!
I think going without Salah is either brave or stupid! What’s your thinking? I think it may be GW3 before we see Lovren, KdB or Lukaku so you may want to change those three, your bench is a little weak, everything else I like!
      Lukaku – Aubameyang/ Kun
      KDB – Mahrez
      Lovren – Robertson

They would be my moves and what I currently have!

Sanchez + David Silva in for Eriksen + Sane
Is it a good move? Or should I stay with Eriksen+Sane?

    Afternoon all
First real look at options today and I reckon I’m gonna set up for WC in international break when players come back and we know more.
How’s this team with that in mind?

Quite similar to mine, Hatter. Only Redmond is an expensive bench option for my taste. If you downgrade him to a 4.5 or 5 M one and De Gea to someone like Ederson for City cover, you might be able to upgrade Morata to Kun or Auba. With the potential of Higuain going to Chelsea, his spot might be at risk.

I like the team, not sure I’d have the cojones for Shaw, Puncheon, Morata, and Martial though. If they all play, sweet. If not, could be painful mate…

Think I still lean Ederson, not because I think City is better defensively, but because I think LFC’s attackers are safer bets for minutes, so I might need the slot for a LFC attacker, whereas I might only have one City guy maybe two, but not 3 outfield players. Also think LFC’s defenders could be safer to have in terms of minutes.

      • Mr Bean says:

With City’s team now holding 6 of the top 8 PPM players from last year (actual players, Romero doesn’t count), surely you would want 3 of their midfielders/attackers if you could?

I struggled so much last season owning Otamendi and Walker at one point, alongside KDB, which meant I could never bring in Sterling, Sane, Aguero easily. Won’t be making the same mistake this year, and will try to avoid City defensive players unless Stones nails a starting spot, as I think he’s a bargain at 5.5m.

    Hi guys – back again!

Been fiddling with my team a little over the past few days, and wondered what you though:

    Ederson

    Coleman, Daniels, Tarkowski, Shaw

    Sane, Salah (C), Martial

    Tosun, Aguero, Firmino

    Bench: Speroni, Romeu, Stephens, Wan-Bissaka

I think the defence is quite weak, but will be looking to swap Tarkowski for another 5m defender once they have returned from the WC – possibly Lovren. Also, if – and it is a big IF – Wan-Bissaka plays, Daniels and him can rotate early, and would get Cardiff (H), West Ham (A), Watford (A), Southampton (H), Huddersfield (A), Newcastle (H) – decent fixtures for your worst defender!

Let me know what you think – Cheers!

Wan-Bissaka is on the watchlist. He could be invaluable.

Rest looks good. I think the Martial one is risky, I’ve really struggled to see where he fits at OT now. I thought he could well have gone this summer. He may do for a couple of games but I think it is a transfer waiting to happen when his minutes inevitably dwindle.

      • elcfc says:

        Hi mate,

Thanks for the feedback. Thinking of bringing Mkh in in GW3, so thinking Martial for the first two weeks – trying not to think too far in advance! As it is only for a couple of weeks, I am also going to monitor Mata to see who has a better pre-season!

    • 54.2

@ELCFC, I don’t know enough about Saints to say wether Stephens and Romeu are wise investments. I will say that if you are going to have Stephens why not just have Cedric? Romeu feels like the traditional 4.5 get 1 point or 2 player, so I get it. Just keep an eye out, usually someone in this price bracket pops up that’s a bit better than that, but I am still waiting on who that will be.

Tarkowski could be fine, but be aware that Burnley are in the Europa so if they get by they will be playing right before and after GW1 in the following round, so make sure you have a plan if it looks like Burnley is set to rotate. You could be setting yourself up for two transfers within a GW or two with Shaw and Martial, but they have potential. Be aware that Martial went out with a knock last night, don’t think it was anything serious though.

      • elcfc says:

        Hi mate,

Sorry not to make it clearer – Stephens is the Brighton midfielder. The bench is poor, but was just hoping to get the cheapest players who may play.

Shaw and Martial will both go early for me, and will be replaced when others at similar value return from the World Cup. Also, not against the early WC, so will see how it goes!

        Thanks for the feedback!
