Ryan first of all welcome yo the site. As far as your question goes, it was ruled that the Baines cross was won by a Pool defender and they turned it away to the side. Therefore for assist ruling purposes, it is considered that Mirallas recovered the ball from a Pool defender and scored. Please don’t kill the messenger.
Ok thanks. I’ll have to see the goal again but if miralles collected the ball in the box then a assist should be given as the defender did not clear it. I assumed no assist is given when a defender clears out of the box.

Case being : a keeper parries and the striker scores. The initial player who shot gets the assist if the scorer collected in the box.

There was an exact explanation on the fpl site for that. I went looking for it, so I could quote them but it was no longer there. Not really sure about some of these decisions, when it comes to assists.
Mito’s right, they said he’d played it away from goal so no block/deflection and therefore no assist.
