Live Match Chat Gameweek 17 FPL News

Welcome to Live Match Chat Gameweek 17 FPL News: After the excitement (maybe not!) of the midweek fixtures we are back with a long weekend of games beginning on Saturday lunchtime with Chelsea chasing records at Pardew’s Palace. We move swiftly on to four relatively dull looking games at 3pm, if we are being totally honest about it! It reads more like a relegation audition or next seasons typical Championship fixture list than any sort of Premier League bonanza. Ahem, sorry, we’re supposed to build you up into a frenzy of excitement to encourage the conversation about what is to come and what is happening aren’t we?! We’ll actually forgive you if you leave at 2pm and return at 5pm though, just this once! The evening game could actually be an interesting one as Man United visit West Brom, both of whom enjoyed midweek wins. Sunday begins with a south coast derby followed by arguably the clash of the weekend as Pep meets Wenger at the Etihad. At the same time as that one Spurs will seek to gain some ground on the leaders as they host Burnley. Our game-week closes out on Monday with another derby game, this time on Merseyside. Please join us to talk about the happenings on the pitch and share your teams joys or woes as the games go on. Rate my team posts are always welcome for the following week and will always be answered. Rant, rave or just wave, do whatever you want on here, it’s your platform as ever…

An amazing two game weeks for me so far. I wonder where everyone saying Firmino is the way to go have gone? smile

All I can do now is pick up my Chelsea defender only question is who, and improve my bench in case of rotations.

Looks like I e made all of the right decisions despite it being against the majority opinion.

I’m unsure if you want our opinion or not. On one hand you say you are doing this in spite of the thoughts of people on here but on the other you are asking for which Chelsea defender to go for. Do you want us to recommend one so you can do the opposite?

A little humility would be nice. The aim of this site is to get along with everyone and help each other out. Asking for advice from people who include those you are sneering at for daring to think that Firmino is a good player (which he is) seems counter productive and might not garner the opinion you desire. I took the time because I like to help people and with the hope that under it all, you aren’t a bad guy.

Alonso for me from Chelsea. He was very close to scoring again yesterday and although Azpi did assist and get the BPs, having watched the game, I’m thoroughly convinced Alonso will be assisting and scoring again soon enough.

I can’t see your bench players in that screengrab. Happy to advise if you let me know who is on there.

Waxy, plus 1 on this. And on the Alonso shout.

        • Waxys says:

I’m interested about Alonso a lot of people seem to be recommending him. What does he have over Azpiceleta ( no idea how to spell his name )

        • Mitro says:

A few weeks ago I was in a similar position to you with regard alonso/azpi i went alonso in the end and I’ve been quite happy with his returns and from what I have saw he will be among some big points soon, him Costa and hazard look great together when they break on a counter, Alonso’s higher positioning means he will be in close proximity to the oppositions box and I have saw him have at least 4 clear cut chances in the past few weeks where if it was someone like Kun/Kane/Costa they would have been goals – and now he is on free kicks!

Double digits are on the way smile

      • Waxys says:

Oh no spite here. I just got lots of flack from others for suggesting that Firmino isn’t worth the 8.8 in the position he’s at.

Yes I was asking for opinions on what Chelsea defender to get, people on this site made a few good recommendations for me I’m happy with. I hope the Firmino dig didn’t conceal the point of the post.

        Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

    Morning

Anyone else see major red arrows this morning? Dropped from 50k to 138k in 2 GWs! Really need my players especially Kane (c) to do something special today!

      NZ Alex says:

      Morning Mitro,

I’ve seen nothing but red arrows for weeks now! Let’s put it like this, I’d bite your hand off for your current rank!

      Vinci says:

      Same here: 20k->80k…
      Players consistently underperforming!
I am sure luck will come back. For Chrimas time, it would be a perfect timing, right?

      Kop Warrior says:

Mitro, my rank has plummeted to over 800k!!! smile

      • Vinci says:

That’s where I see that luck plays so large a role.
There is no question that Kop, GP, Cookie, Innit, etc are much more competent than myself in knowing the in-form players, evaluating the fixtures difficulties, keeping an eye on when chips are most useful…
And yet for the moment I have a better position – largely due to their advice!

It reminds me of hold’em poker: skill plays a role, but luck’s influence is so large that you have to play lots of games to see the difference between a good and an average player.
And unfortunately you can play only on FPL season per year!

(That is also a personnal way to secretly consider myself superior to personnal friends that beat me at FPL – or poker!!)

        • Kop Warrior says:

Cheers Vinci. I’ve certainly had some bad luck this season but I can’t blame my poor rank on bad luck. For a number of reasons I don’t have the time I once had to plan and research my decisions, and this is the main reason I’m doing crap.
When I’ve got an article to write I will of course do some research but on the weeks I’m not writing an article there can often be very little thought put into my transfers.

        • Vinci says:

So in a way you find time to help me improve my team (with your articles), but that you do not always find time to improve yours!
Well, thanks a lot for your sacrifices!! laugh

    Vinci says:

I am surprised on how many people consider selling Costa for one week.
That is 0.5M and 2 transfers, so basically 2 successive weeks (including the congested boxing day where a lot can go wrong) sacrificed for that one move.
I can see that in some specific cases where it would make sense, but it looks really risky to me. Especially if you move today to avoid price changes… and expose your team to anything that could happen next week!

      Smash10 says:

I have sold him for Zlatan. However I did pick Costa up late. So my sell value was 10.7 I think so don’t lose too much on him. Also its not like he’s playing Swansea or Hull at home. Stoke at home is ok but never easy, Spurs away is difficult and then Leicester away who yes are struggling but not so much at home. Yes I’ll want him back though. On the contrast United’s fixtures are really good and seem to have found some form

      • Vinci says:

Smash, I understand much better selling Costa *for a little while*. Even though it can be difficult to find the proper time to bring him back (general problem)!

I am personnally planning pretty much the same – with Kane!
Kane to Ibra, Costa on the bench.

        • Smash10 says:

Yeah have to admit plan was to sell Kane for Zlatan this week. True can be difficult to bring someone back and there will be people who lose value on him

    • 59.2
      Leprechaun says:

      Vinci,
The people who bought him some time ago and who have a resale value of around 10.5 should probably not sell him if that is only a short term plan as they will certainly lose value in buying him back.
Even at 10.7 sale price I think you will have to pay more to buy him back and you will use the FT each way. Let’s see.
Nevertheless different teams have different needs and it may still make sense for some. A massive points haul from the replacement will certainly help smile

    • 59.3
      Mitro says:

Vinci – I’m one of the ones who has lost a fair bit by selling but hopefully ibra (c) next week will soften the blow smile

    banjomaker says:

So, it appears my drunken transfer this week was probably more sensible… Kane to Ibra. Don’t think I’ll be able to afford to get him back, but fairly happy with that, when the masterplan involves a front 3 of Kun, Ibra & Costa.

I’m eying up Mane to Coutinho in the next couple of weeks, which then free’s up the funds for Hazard & Carroll to Kun & Allen.

Sound logical? No doubt I’ll come up with a much better idea when I’m pissed which will change everything!
