Live Match Chat Gameweek 17 FPL News

Welcome to Live Match Chat Gameweek 17 FPL News: After the excitement (maybe not!) of the midweek fixtures we are back with a long weekend of games beginning on Saturday lunchtime with Chelsea chasing records at Pardew’s Palace. We move swiftly on to four relatively dull looking games at 3pm, if we are being totally honest about it! It reads more like a relegation audition or next seasons typical Championship fixture list than any sort of Premier League bonanza. Ahem, sorry, we’re supposed to build you up into a frenzy of excitement to encourage the conversation about what is to come and what is happening aren’t we?! We’ll actually forgive you if you leave at 2pm and return at 5pm though, just this once! The evening game could actually be an interesting one as Man United visit West Brom, both of whom enjoyed midweek wins. Sunday begins with a south coast derby followed by arguably the clash of the weekend as Pep meets Wenger at the Etihad. At the same time as that one Spurs will seek to gain some ground on the leaders as they host Burnley. Our game-week closes out on Monday with another derby game, this time on Merseyside. Please join us to talk about the happenings on the pitch and share your teams joys or woes as the games go on. Rate my team posts are always welcome for the following week and will always be answered. Rant, rave or just wave, do whatever you want on here, it’s your platform as ever…

    What do people think?

I am looking at getting Ibra in for Kane and Jones for McAuley for a 4 point hit.
Plan is to play 541 this game week and then 442 there afterwards

Ok so if I want to go to Costa – Defoe for Kane and nacho. I need to swap a defender. Thinking vert or van dijk? Which would leave me 5.2 for defender. What’s my best option?

Hi guys, funny couple of gw’s for me, dropping in some areas rising in others. im fresh out of fantasy brain space! Was going to do a panic transfer Costa to Ibra yesterday but was 0.1 short luckily. If ibra is the way to go then im not adverse to a hit (or 2). But i do think a new defender may be more important? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think your defense is bad to be honest. Alonso is solid and about to come into some big points (I keep telling myself that) and Cedric has some good games. Holebas is a threat going forward so you’ve got three good defenders there.
Personally I’d keep Costa as he has Stoke at home the week after. If you want Ibra I’d get him in for Kane, presuming you have money ITB?

Anyone see the Spurs game? If so any discernible reason why Kane is blanking?

        • db says:

lol, it is though. Or is it Kanes fault for relying on others all the time – hold on i think im falling aaaaaaaarrrrrgh

        • db says:

Im alright it was only into the abyss. Kane a waste of space, same area as Lukaku apart from Lukakus better at football and also its Lukaku who decides when Lukaku plays well and doesn’t whereas with Kane he’s not good enough to make that decision!

        • inittowinit says:

That’s a superb analysis of Lukaku! Probably the best and most accurate way I’ve seen it put.

        • obrigado says:

Init, I watched it.. Was super frustrating.. He didn’t go for chalenges, didn’t present to get the ball, when he got a chance to shoot he lost his balance and did a cartwheel from 5m out and sprayed it 40m wide. But overall he played well..

      RedVT says:

He just doesn’t seem to be “on it” right now. In the 1st half it was Alli and Eriksen who were the most forward and attacking the goal. 2nd half Eriksen seemed to drop back a bit but Kane was rather anonymous throughout.

      • inittowinit says:

Cheers Red, I didn’t get to see it so it’s good to know. Just looking at my options now and he’s on the cusp of a culling!

        • RedVT says:

I’m ready to get rid as well, init. If I could do a straight swap for Ibra it would be done already but I’m .3 shy right now, .4 after price changes tonight. Don’t want to rush anything though so I’d rather eat a few price changes and think things through. I may have to trim my midfield a little, there’s just really no money left in my budget back line! laugh

        • inittowinit says:

I’m 0.1 short now which is annoying! Payet looks like he’ll have to go as a result which is a shame given that he has Swansea next but Ibra and Wally as a pair look much better over the next 2 than Kane and him in terms of overall fixtures I think.

        • RedVT says:

I didn’t see Wally play today as I was watching the Spurs match, but Horse said he looked lively. I think that sounds like a good transfer, although it would be nice to keep Payet for Swansea as you said! Ibra for the next stretch with his form and fixtures may be more important though. I really don’t want to lose any of my midfielders, so unless something happens to Lallana tomorrow I’ll probably try to talk myself into doing McAuley to Friend, Chambers, Nyom, etc. We’ll see, if Ibra somehow doesn’t go up tonight I can stretch to the “premium budget” 4.5 defender class after the derby tomorrow! laugh

        • inittowinit says:

Lallana is my other alternative to Wally. I’m tempted but for all the wrong reasons… Just looking at the festive fixtures and I’d quite like to have an interest in the game on the 27th!

Think Kane relies too much on penalties…

    RedVT says:

Hey guys, like a lot of people I’m considering a hit for Ibra as well. Don’t wanna sell Costa for just a week and then buy him back, so it would be Kane making way. Can’t quite afford a straight swap, need to make up .3 somewhere. Anyone see a good place to squeeze some more money? McAuley to Friend maybe? Ideally I’d like to wait until after Lallana plays tomorrow which means I’d only have 4.4 to replace McAuley if Ibra rises again tonight which looks likely. Any other solutions or suggestions for this side?

      Horse says:

      Nice side Red.

      How about Erik to Theo.
He looked lively today and Arsenal have 6 good fixtures coming up

      • RedVT says:

Hey Horse, thanks man. I hadn’t even considered dropping Eriksen but Arsenal do have some nice fixtures coming up. I’m still buzzing a bit from Eriksen’s 19 point haul last week though- not sure I’m ready to part with him just yet! laugh

How’d you make out this week?

        • Horse says:

55 points this week. Top scorer Pickford smile
Glad I chose (c)osta this GW

        • RedVT says:

That should end up being a pretty nice score Horse. Some green arrows for sure unless there are some really big points tomorrow. I’m on 46 (-4) with Lallana to go, hoping he does something in the derby. Thanks for the Walcott suggestion, I actually didn’t see much of the Arsenal match today as I was watching Spurs since I had 3 players involved. Waiting for MOTD to start so I can give him a closer look.

        • Horse says:

I think it’s on tomorrow Red.
I am up to 60 in the regs league hoping to qualify for the regs cup but somehow I thinik I will miss out

      • captain-kingpin says:

Arsenal do have some lovely fixtures but Erikson looked the best player on the pitch in the game v Burnley. I have him as well and I’d be tempted to keep. Guess you have to weigh up Kane & Eriksen vs. Ibra and Theo.

        • RedVT says:

Thanks Captain. I agree, I think he’s in a good run of form and although he didn’t return anything today he still had some decent efforts and is on most corners and free kicks. I think he’s got some good points in him still and at only 15% ownership is a nice little differential.

      RedVT says:

PS- does anyone think Friend will get his place back in the starting 11 next week? He came on for almost 30 minutes on Saturday.

    • 119.3
      Brookyboy says:

Red chambers is also 4.4m….I’d consider losing Holebas before McAuley….

  6. 120
    captain-kingpin says:

OK, I’m happy with my backline and mids but attack isn’t too flash. Keen to keep Costa as I bought him cheap.
    Options are:
    1. Stick and roll the transfer
    2. Nacho & Kane out for Ibra and Negrado (or similar)
    3. Kane and Hazard out for Ibra and Walcott.
    4. Something else?

    • 120.1
      inittowinit says:

I like number 2 there captain. I wouldn’t be keen on losing Hazard with those games ahead.

      • captain-kingpin says:

Just watched the Chelsea game and Hazard looked good. Could play up front in Costa’s absence?

        • inittowinit says:

He went up there when Costa went off in the Man City game so it’s always an option they have with Pedro coming back in to fill Hazard’s deeper spot. Depends how much he trusts Batman I suppose, we’ve seen very little of him so it’s difficult to tell although that fact may also be telling in itself!

        • captain-kingpin says:

Just seen Negrado’s first goal and it was a peach! Gives me more confidence putting him in.
