New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2016/17. Best of the rest!
Having already taken a look at the summer signings of United, Liverpool, West Ham, Southampton, City, Leicester, Chelsea & Crystal Palace we have now decided to take a look at the best of the rest! Some clubs have clearly been more active than others but that’s not to say that quantity is more important than quality. Certain clubs have not been covered in previous articles and have again not been mentioned below simply because their acquisitions are unlikely to hold any fantasy merit. Unfortunately we cannot see into the future and because of this we may have missed one or two signings who could have an impact on FPL. Should you spot someone please feel free to let us know.
Georginio Wijnaldum
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]We’ve already published an article relating to a number of Liverpool’s signings. However since that article hit the site Jurgen Klopp has signed yet another attacking midfielder. We’ve lost count as to how many of them they have at this stage! Wijnaldum joined Newcastle last summer on the back of four seasons at PSV. His stats at PSV make for quite impressive reading as he scored 40 goals in 109 appearances for the Dutch side. He was the standout player in a Newcastle side which was relegated last term and he finished the season with 11 goals from 38 appearances. So where does he fit in at Anfield? In a 4-2-3-1 system he could feature on the left side of the 3, in the number 10 position or there is even a chance that Klopp may consider in the double pivot. In a 4-3-3 system he could feature on the left of a front 3 or as the most attack minded player of the midfield 3. Clearly the Dutchman is versatile but the problem for fantasy managers is that Klopp has a host of options available at his disposable for any of the positions in which he might consider Wijnaldum. At £8.0m he’s cheaper than both Firmino & Mane but is more expensive than the likes of Milner & Lallana. For now I don’t believe he warrants any consideration but this could change dramatically as the season develops.

Jordan Ibe
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Jordan Ibe has long been regarded as a prospect at Anfield. Unfortunately for both him and the club he never quite managed to make the step up and after 5 ½ years at the club he has departed as a prospect. Many will argue that he wasn’t given enough opportunities at the club making just 58 appearances during those 5 ½ years. When Raheem Sterling left for City many expected Ibe to fill the void and while he did play 1,177mins last season the majority of this playing time was from the bench and he finished the season with just a goal and three assists to his name. He was never a fantasy option during his time on Merseyside, is this likely to change now he’s on the south coast? Having shelled out a club record £15m on Ibe it’s highly likely that he will go straight into the starting xi with Eddie Howe likely to see him as a direct replacement for the departed Matt Ritchie. Ibe probably played his best football under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers and with Eddie Howe adopting a similar philosophy to that of Rodgers the youngster should fit in well. The Cherries have quite a tough set of opening fixtures so for now it might be best so sit back and see how Ibe adapts to life as a regular starter in the PL. However at £5.5m he could yet become an ideal 4th or 5th midfielder depending on your system.

Matt Phillips
We don’t want to alarm you but Tony Pulis has only made one signing during the current transfer window. What’s alarming about this you say? Well the fact that it’s an attacking signing with some fantasy relevance is somewhat disconcerting. But at £5.5m Phillips is certainly an option particularly when you consider West Brom’s opening fixtures. Phillips has two PL seasons under his belt and with QPR back in the 2014/15 season he managed three goals and eight assists. Now I realise it’s Pulis who picks the team and not technical director Nick Hammond but Hammond has suggested that Phillips could be played centrally behind Salomon Rondon. Historically Pulis teams have struggled for goals and this has meant his offensive players are ignored in fantasy circles but Phillips could turn out to be the man that changes that.

Vincent Janssen
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Spurs have treated Harry Kane like a cart horse since he broke into the first team. Over the past two seasons he has made just over 100 competitive appearances for the club. Throw into the mix the Euro U21s last summer and the Euro’s this summer as well as the odd trip to Oz it’s no wonder the bloke looked knackered when playing for England this summer. It has therefore come as no surprise to see Spurs sign another striker. Janssen has enjoyed something of a meteoric rise as it was only back in in early 2015 when he was still plying his trade in the Dutch 2nd division. After securing a move to AZ he got off to a slow start in the Eredivisie but finished the season in sensational form, ending with 32 goals from 49 appearances in all competitions. Now I realise you’re going to say, ‘but it’s only the Dutch league’, however let’s not forget the impact that both Ruud van Nistelrooy and Luis Suarez had after joining from the Dutch league! The Dutchman is said to have a decent turn of pace and is comfortable with the ball on either foot, while he is also said strong on the ball. All these traits which should see him adapt to life in the PL. Pochettino clearly favours a 4-2-3-1 formation so for now Janssen is likely to act as back-up to the aforementioned Kane. However with CL football on the horizon for Spurs, Janssen is unlikely to have to wait very long to show us what he can do. With a price tag of £8.0m he’s unlikely to feature in many teams at the beginning of the season but is potentially one for the watch list.

Thoights on this crew? Not excited about lack of Arsenal attack. Will pick up Liverpool cover when their fixtures pick up. So many great midfield options but all the good for adds are expensive…
Don’t mean to sound to nasty, but thats a horrible team.
First off, no Aguero. Then Rodwell and Allen are awful picks. William could have ???’s around his place. Just doesn’t look right to me.
Excellent strike force mate but that’s kinda where it ends for me. Midfield is a nightmare waiting to happen.
Got to agree here Pancho, not sold on a lot of those picks really. It’s a no from me
Strikers look good. I’m not a fan of the midfield so would make some changes there. I do like the different approach.
Hey thats a nice change from the standard teams im seeing on here.
Triple Spurs im not that keen on, heck I only support Spurs
I think incase of Vardy you could just as easily have Lukaku, have no rotation risks and save a mil.
Silva seems to me as a has been, IDK few seasons ago he was one of the best mids in the game. Now im not sure, im sure he will be again in time. But Man City have such a packed mid now he is almost certainly going to be rotated.
Not sold on your strategy of having 2 really chip mids.
As I said though, this team is different to the normal I see on here. It may well all work out and your laughing, good luck Pancho
Thanks all for the feedback!
Would you prefer Siggy + Ibra or KDB + Lukaku ?
Hi Dreamers, Siggy and Ibra for me. Both on pens I think and some FK’s. That’s not the only reason but it certainly tips it for me. I have both and neither of the latter.
+1
Thought Rooney is on pens?
You really think Zlat would let him???
If pens is codeword for McDonalds, then yeah, Rooney is on pens.
I think Rooney is still on pens. He took one the other day and Ibra was still on the pitch I think.
I don’t think Zlats was on pitch. Rooney let Mata take them last year and he’s an awful penalty taker. Zlats will be on pens I expect
Ibra went off at HT in that game Gear. I think Ibra gets them but it’s only an assumption until it happens.
thanks lads. Just feels wrong not to have KDB given last years exploits
It’s a little close but i’d go with De Bruyne and Lukaku. I’d expect De Bruyne to crush Siggy over the course of the season and Lukaku / Ibrahimovic to finish on roughly the same points. Roughly.
Within a 100
Right around 180 ish for both i’d say. If Lukaku goes to Chelsea… pfft, De Bruyne + Luka all the way.
Over the course of the season KDB would crush Siggy and Ibra and Lukaku may be similar come the end of the season but i would say Ibra cos of Set pieces and (should) score more goals. However, who keeps the same strikers all season? Certainly not me! So for the short term i’d say Siggy until week 3 and then try to get KDB at a later date, maybe to swap places with Hazard if you have him
Siggy and Zlats
Any thoughts? I am perhaps concerned with two strikers partnering Kun, this is in aid to get Sanchez in.
I like two high vale forwards so i get instantly concerned when there’s two budget options. I’d bin Sanchez, Kouyate and Mane too to be honest. Defence is fine.
I would change Grulic to a 4.5 and change Kouyate to Bolasie. Looks good though
Hello, I didnt get to see the matches today, I got a general jist I think, can anyone enlighten me on the follwing;
What position was Hazard playing? Did Fab come on at all?
Is Sanchez a must have?
Is ZLatan a must have? I wanted Mkhi but Zlatan is looking like the go to guy?
Is Valencia going to be starting for Man U do you think? Whats that, 5 assists pre-season now?
Is Baines still not on set pieces? If he isnt does he really deserve to go in my team?
Whats the thoughts on Leicester? Is Mahrez worth it?
thanks
Fuck no.
No. No.
Probably.
Most i’d say. No.
Yes. Fuck yeah!
lol thanks
Missed the Hazard / Fabregas ones.
Ahem.
No idea. No idea.
So many questions I’ll give it a go. I think Hazard has played a mixture of from the left and in the hole. Fabregas came on at half time so got a fair amount of game time. Oscar has scored last 2 games.
I’m not sure on must haves except Aguero. Both Zlats and Sanchez look like good options. Can’t really dismiss anyone having either.
Looks like Valencia will be starting and has certainly been getting forward. I don’t think we know if Baines will be on set pieces but Barkley missing a pen might mean another change. Mahrez played off the right today and did not look like scoring
Ok thanks, looks like im going to have to either downgrade Hazard or Mahrez to fund a Zlatan move. Something I didnt want to do, I was hoping Mkihi as Man U cover would be enough but I really aint seen much of him to take that risk which sucks. He was going to be my Man U version of KDB.
Would you go with Baines or Terry?
Downgrading Mahrez fixture wise would be the better option and i’d go Terry for the same reason or Courtois in goal (no rotation) for the same money?
Yea good point cheers and it means I can bring Valencia in for DDG ;0
Sorted!
On the left and in the hole – He came on after 46 mins for Matic
Yes maybe at a later date, might play up front, for now
Better to have him just in case – Mkhi unknown, wait and see…
Looks that way
Didn’t take the last penalty – Maybe better options
They still look decent on the counter – He played wider, wasn’t special today but we all know he is!
No problem 😉
I read today Wenger is saying Walcotts future is as a striker, just what Arsenal fans want to hear during the transfer window..
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10526665/arsene-wenger-says-theo-walcott39s-future-is-as-a-striker
If i were him i would put Walcott up front for now and keep Sanchez in midfield, he’s played there before and outscored Giroud so i don’t see the problem (injuries aside). Hope he does cos Walcott would go straight in my team at 7.5!
yea just seems Wenger getting his excuses in now for not signing a striker again, and you jsut know soon as Giroud is fit again Walcott will be on the bench despite Girouds form whatever it may be
Full Time logging in for another season……….
Hope you are all well and are getting your teams ready for the season, personally I can’t wait for kick off!
Thanks for all the articles they are much appreciated.
I’m currently in the middle of a month long holiday so won’t be on much at the start of the season.
Happy tinkering
Hey FT, welcome back. See you when we can but enjoy it in the meantime!
