New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2016/17. Mustafi, Perez
With the transfer window coming to a close and the players off playing for their respective countries, it’s probably a good time to look at some recent signings that we haven’t covered yet. Arsenal, and more importantly Wenger, have finally loosened their purse strings and brought in two new players. These recruits include a much needed central defender in Shkrodan Mustafi and the striker/winger, Lucas Pérez. This is my first article so bear with me, now without further ado, here goes!
[clear]
Shkodran Mustafi (defender – FPL price 6.0mln)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Let’s start from the back with new signing Mustafi (can we please get him to change his name to Mufasa!!). The 24 year old German centre-back, who can also play right back, has only come to the floor in recent years. For some of you Evertonians you may remember him, as Mustafi featured in one Europa League game and appeared on the bench a further nine times. Moving on to Sampdoria he made more of an impact playing 50 times and finding the net once. Mustafi moved to the La Liga with Valencia making 61 apperances and scoring 6 times. He has also appeared 12 times for Germany and scored once. These stats show that Mustafi is a defender who can score a goal which us fantasy managers like but just like any Arsenal player he’s prone to the odd injury. Over the last three years he has had three muscle injuries which have ruled him out for 88 days, which is not too bad but something to keep a possible eye on as it could be a recurring thing and may mean GW’s on the sideline. Mustafi should walk into the team to partner Koscielny at the heart at the Arsenal defence and with Cech behind them you would think Arsenal’s chances for clean sheets will improve but only time will tell.

Lucas Perez (striker – FPL price 8.5mln)

[/three_fourth]Now onto the new attacking player Arsene has splashed out on who can play as a centre forward, second striker or on either wing. Lucas Pérez, the 27 year old Spaniard, has certainly moved around Europe playing in Spain, Ukraine and Greece. Spending the first four years of his senior career in the depths of Spanish football with Atlético Madrid C and Rayo Vallecano B, Perez made a combined total of 99 appearances and scored 43 goals. Pérez then made the step up to the senior Rayo squad but only played 7 games with 1 goal before moving to Karpaty Lviv as a free agent. He appeared for Lviv 51 times scoring 14 goals but went on loan to Dynamo Kyiv where he didn’t play a single minute. Moving to PAOK he played one season making 32 apperances and scoring 9 times. He then landed back in Spain with Deportivo La Coruna where Arsene Wenger picked him up after making 58 apperances and scoring 24 times for the Spanish side. These numbers show that Pérez scores wherever he has gone (let’s ignore Kyiv for his sake!!) and with the likes of Sanchez, Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla and Ramsey alongside he could find the back of the net a lot for the Gooners, but could also face competition from those exact names. Once again Arsenal show just how much they like an injury as over the last two seasons Pérez has missed 79 days through injury but 23 of those days were during the summer. It may be worth mentioning that Pérez was passed around by a number of Premier League clubs that include Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham before finally landing at Arsenal so it makes you think what was wrong that they turned him down?

*** NEW ARTICLE ***
Morning all. Well Arsenal dealt late and finally bagged a defender and some sort of striker/winger blah blah blah – Matt has kindly written them up for us superbly in his first article for FF247. Many thanks Matt, superb article mate.
Morning Cookie, and what a beautiful morning it is. I’d like to be the first to congratulate Init on having a lucky escape from Sissoko.
12 new players in for us and most of the deadwood gone (or on loan at least); £30 odd mill profit.
Do I really need to ask if your happy with Man Us transfer business?
Morning Milburn,
glad you are happy, it’s a very important window for you.
I actually really rate Sissoko, he just needs managing – maybe he is a player who will never fulfil his real potential and will always promise more than he delivers. His performance in the final of the Euros showed everyone what he can do – I guess Toon fans will be questioning why he doesn’t perform like that week in, week out.
I’m very happy with United’s window, dealt big and early and all four have been around the squad for a while. Bodes well. But the competition is tough this year – a top four slot for anyone will be an achievement, though I’d expect City and United to to both achieve that, and Chelsea should do too.
Yeah there’s no doubting he’s a powerhouse on his day; those days just don’t come often enough. Obviously Pochettino likes a high pressing/closing down team so it’ll be interesting to see whether he can encourage that drive but I feel he may grow frustrated with the lack of effort for the cause of chasing back.
Can’t argue with that top 3 prediction, going to be really interesting for that 4th spot. I feel whether or not Wenger manages it, this could be his last season.
Cheers Cook thanks for the chance to do it!
Milburn what do you think if Matt Richie when I heard that move went through I felt it was pretty pointless. Kind of feels like Richie doesn’t think he can cut it in the PL but I haven’t really seen much of him at Newcastle yet.
I personally don’t think it’s a lack of confidence in his own ability, Howe said Bournemouth were desperate to keep him but couldn’t compete with the statue and finances of Newcastle; which is obviously surprising given the money in the prem this window.
He was definitely an essential replacement with us selling Townsend and Sissoko. He’s been fantastic so far, none stop workhorse which is obviously what we’ve been desperate for.
Him and Gayle have been the bright sparks so far.
OK that’s good to know. I haven’t got the chance to watch much of the Newcastle games just the odd few minutes here and there. I guess it just seemed like he wasn’t able to cope as he came up from the championship for a year and then transferred back down to it even though his team stayed up. I think Gayle was a great get for you lot needed a bit of speed up top and now you have it.
Yeah I’m hoping now that Mitrovic is back (for the time being) that they can form a little and large partnership up top but we’ll see.
Cheers for the article mate; not sure I’ll be touching either of them quite yet though!
Yeah it seemed to work with Chamakh and Gayle whenever they played together but we’ll have to wait and see.
No worries mate. I probably won’t be going anywhere near them either maybe Cech becomes more appealing though.
+1
Any news about gray suspension? Descion should be yesterday
Gray has been given an extension until Sept 5 to appeal – not much help for owners!
Lamela?
I think Chelsea have done really well in this transfer window, they aint wasted money. They looked at what needs addressing and solved it. I really like Conte and think he is going to do well by Chelsea, they will be title contenders for sure.
They spent £30mill on Luiz 😉 . I’m just looking forward to the MNF analysis of his clangers.
Lol well they sold him for 50 so not bad, and they can now ditch Cahill and Terry if playing 3 at the back only 😛
And he wants to win stuff, adores Chelsea and vice versa. A good fit
He cant make as many mistakes as Morneo LOL, I wonder half the time if he even knows what position he is playing
Fantastic article, mate.
Cheers Hoof
Well done Matt for the first article
Question : Who would you get for Aguero and Del (2ft,0itb)
A) Sanchez + 8.5 forward probably Defeo
B) Ozil + 9.9 forward Lukaku or Vardy
Going with A will leave me with no attacking cover for Everton but with B I will be without Sanchez :/
Cheers Snook
Personally I’d go with B mate more balanced in my opinion.
Yeah and don’t want to miss out on good fixtures of Everton, hope Lukaku doesn’t frustate his owners
He hasn’t scored in ages in the prem so he is either due a goal or he is warning us all that he will frustrate us 😉
Great debut Matt, well done mate. Be very interesting to see where they play Perez. He could very well be the goal scorer they so need. Decent value at that price if he can nail the no.9 spot.
Cheers Init. I agree with you could be great value if he plays but personally I don’t think he will. Seems like a pointless transfer to me, never heard of him before now and it seems like Arsene just brought anyone in to satisfy fans.
