New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2016/17. Mustafi, Perez
With the transfer window coming to a close and the players off playing for their respective countries, it’s probably a good time to look at some recent signings that we haven’t covered yet. Arsenal, and more importantly Wenger, have finally loosened their purse strings and brought in two new players. These recruits include a much needed central defender in Shkrodan Mustafi and the striker/winger, Lucas Pérez. This is my first article so bear with me, now without further ado, here goes!

Shkodran Mustafi (defender – FPL price 6.0mln)

[/three_fourth]Let’s start from the back with new signing Mustafi (can we please get him to change his name to Mufasa!!). The 24 year old German centre-back, who can also play right back, has only come to the floor in recent years. For some of you Evertonians you may remember him, as Mustafi featured in one Europa League game and appeared on the bench a further nine times. Moving on to Sampdoria he made more of an impact playing 50 times and finding the net once. Mustafi moved to the La Liga with Valencia making 61 apperances and scoring 6 times. He has also appeared 12 times for Germany and scored once. These stats show that Mustafi is a defender who can score a goal which us fantasy managers like but just like any Arsenal player he’s prone to the odd injury. Over the last three years he has had three muscle injuries which have ruled him out for 88 days, which is not too bad but something to keep a possible eye on as it could be a recurring thing and may mean GW’s on the sideline. Mustafi should walk into the team to partner Koscielny at the heart at the Arsenal defence and with Cech behind them you would think Arsenal’s chances for clean sheets will improve but only time will tell.

Lucas Perez (striker – FPL price 8.5mln)

[/three_fourth]Now onto the new attacking player Arsene has splashed out on who can play as a centre forward, second striker or on either wing. Lucas Pérez, the 27 year old Spaniard, has certainly moved around Europe playing in Spain, Ukraine and Greece. Spending the first four years of his senior career in the depths of Spanish football with Atlético Madrid C and Rayo Vallecano B, Perez made a combined total of 99 appearances and scored 43 goals. Pérez then made the step up to the senior Rayo squad but only played 7 games with 1 goal before moving to Karpaty Lviv as a free agent. He appeared for Lviv 51 times scoring 14 goals but went on loan to Dynamo Kyiv where he didn’t play a single minute. Moving to PAOK he played one season making 32 apperances and scoring 9 times. He then landed back in Spain with Deportivo La Coruna where Arsene Wenger picked him up after making 58 apperances and scoring 24 times for the Spanish side. These numbers show that Pérez scores wherever he has gone (let’s ignore Kyiv for his sake!!) and with the likes of Sanchez, Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla and Ramsey alongside he could find the back of the net a lot for the Gooners, but could also face competition from those exact names. Once again Arsenal show just how much they like an injury as over the last two seasons Pérez has missed 79 days through injury but 23 of those days were during the summer. It may be worth mentioning that Pérez was passed around by a number of Premier League clubs that include Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham before finally landing at Arsenal so it makes you think what was wrong that they turned him down?

Wilfred Bony anyone?
Maybe but haven’t decided yet.
Probably once he’s lost some weight
Kun can appael the decision, same goes for Gray. So if by some freak accident both are coming off with nothing, some people have shipped them out way too early. ;P
That’s why I’m holding my transfers till we know something solid but I think I will sell Gray no matter what the outcome is.
Even though they play Hull next? Two newly promoted teams are bound to score against each other. They won’t play for the draw and both will think this is a match they can get something from.
Yeah when Burnley score I expect it to be Gray. Problem is will they score enough against the top half teams not Hull
Yeah I suppose you are right Raz but Hull have surprised people and I think credit has to be given to Phelan there he’s been brilliant for them. I could change my mind but I’m not too concerned right now.
Keeping an eye on things daughter gets married tomorrow weather and Hotel great 😉
Congrats Silvers, hope all goes smoothly
Good Luck mate
All the best for tomorrow – and good luck with your speech!
Silvers
Congratulations to the new Mr And Mrs when the time arrives.
Have a great time!
So Aguero and City have decided to contest the FA charge – interesting. If he wins then no suspension, if found guilty he could be handed an additional ban.
It will be really funny if he gets let off when loads of people have taken Aguero out
Could you just imagine the melt down!!!
Haha +1
Evening all
Matt, thanks for the coverage of the two Arsenal newbies. Well written and appreciated by all here certainly.
Well done mate :ok:
+1 – Nice article there Matt. Reckon it might be watch and wait
Cheers boys!! Really enjoyed it
I agree with you Dreamers could be one to just watch especially if Mustafi got badly injured last night (can I say I called it?!!) Haha
Did he get injured??
I didn’t see the match myself but seem pictures of him lying on the ground looking to be in a lot of pain.
He will fit right in then
You mean this?
That’s probably it but the pic I seen had him yelling out in pain with the physio around him.
Oi oi!!
How are we all??
Didn’t know that Perez was offered around to many clubs, never heard any of that during the transfer window!!!!!!!!!!!
Even Spurs said no and that was for €10m less 😉
Meh!!!
Yea we just signed another Soldado instead – Jansen
Hopefully im wrong, but probably not. Spurs pretty useless as signing strikers tbh
Luke,
I’d me more concerned about paying £32m for a player who isn’t really good to be honest and is also a life long Arsenal fan, which now means you have two Arsenal fans in your squad 😉
Jansen does look decent though!
Not seen him at all yet Luke, no good then I take it? I’m not entirely sure how he fits in in all honesty. I saw the line-up for the Palace game and it looked like Kane was in behind him? Surely that’s not what you need to be doing?
Don’t compare Janssen with Soldado. That’s just crazy. Way more talented than that. But still young. 21 or 22? Needs to get used to the level of EPL. Sort of surprised he already made this much minutes.
Soldado came with a pedigree. He should have worked in theory. He was a classic case of a player missing a couple of early chances and rather than shrugging it off it completely ruined him. You could more or less see into his soul after those, he just looked haunted from then on and you just knew he was done for. You need tough skin for this league and he just didn’t have it. It’s partially why I’ve always liked Giroud. Remember that chance on his debut and he put it over? It was replayed and replayed and sliced with Wengers reaction on the bench. Difference was he shrugged it off and has made a decent career at Arsenal since. Being an arrogant (overly confident) git probably helps though
