New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2016/17. Mustafi, Perez

FPL 2015/16 transfer round upWith the transfer window coming to a close and the players off playing for their respective countries, it’s probably a good time to look at some recent signings that we haven’t covered yet. Arsenal, and more importantly Wenger, have finally loosened their purse strings and brought in two new players. These recruits include a much needed central defender in Shkrodan Mustafi and the striker/winger, Lucas Pérez. This is my first article so bear with me, now without further ado, here goes!

Shkodran Mustafi (defender – FPL price 6.0mln)

[/three_fourth]Let’s start from the back with new signing Mustafi (can we please get him to change his name to Mufasa!!). The 24 year old German centre-back, who can also play right back, has only come to the floor in recent years. For some of you Evertonians you may remember him, as Mustafi featured in one Europa League game and appeared on the bench a further nine times. Moving on to Sampdoria he made more of an impact playing 50 times and finding the net once. Mustafi moved to the La Liga with Valencia making 61 apperances and scoring 6 times. He has also appeared 12 times for Germany and scored once. These stats show that Mustafi is a defender who can score a goal which us fantasy managers like but just like any Arsenal player he’s prone to the odd injury. Over the last three years he has had three muscle injuries which have ruled him out for 88 days, which is not too bad but something to keep a possible eye on as it could be a recurring thing and may mean GW’s on the sideline. Mustafi should walk into the team to partner Koscielny at the heart at the Arsenal defence and with Cech behind them you would think Arsenal’s chances for clean sheets will improve but only time will tell.

Lucas Perez (striker – FPL price 8.5mln)

[/three_fourth]Now onto the new attacking player Arsene has splashed out on who can play as a centre forward, second striker or on either wing. Lucas Pérez, the 27 year old Spaniard, has certainly moved around Europe playing in Spain, Ukraine and Greece. Spending the first four years of his senior career in the depths of Spanish football with Atlético Madrid C and Rayo Vallecano B, Perez made a combined total of 99 appearances and scored 43 goals. Pérez then made the step up to the senior Rayo squad but only played 7 games with 1 goal before moving to Karpaty Lviv as a free agent. He appeared for Lviv 51 times scoring 14 goals but went on loan to Dynamo Kyiv where he didn’t play a single minute. Moving to PAOK he played one season making 32 apperances and scoring 9 times. He then landed back in Spain with Deportivo La Coruna where Arsene Wenger picked him up after making 58 apperances and scoring 24 times for the Spanish side. These numbers show that Pérez scores wherever he has gone (let’s ignore Kyiv for his sake!!) and with the likes of Sanchez, Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla and Ramsey alongside he could find the back of the net a lot for the Gooners, but could also face competition from those exact names. Once again Arsenal show just how much they like an injury as over the last two seasons Pérez has missed 79 days through injury but 23 of those days were during the summer. It may be worth mentioning that Pérez was passed around by a number of Premier League clubs that include Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham before finally landing at Arsenal so it makes you think what was wrong that they turned him down?

“An independent panel is due to rule on the case on Friday using written submissions and reviewing video evidence.” – BBC Sport, so we find the outcome on Aguero tomorrow I guess, he is going to get banned fck knows why they appeal it. They were probably hoping to drag it out past the Manchester Derby but that aint going to happen. Lo l@ Pep saying he doesn’t mind if Aguero misses it, blatantly crapping his pants…

Omg, Danny Blind is destroying the Netherlands. FUN, FUN, FUN!! HAHA! I don’t even watch the games anymore.

Did England play tonight? Or will they play soon? ROONPIG FTW!

Think we play on Sunday Raz. Slovakia maybe. Could be Slovenia. Someone like that. Yeah, I’m about as interested as you are mate, as you can tell!

You guys are not half as bad as we are. In our case, the coach even fields players that don’t even belong there. Personal preference. He’s a complete douche. laugh

How did he end up with the job in the first place? Did he have a successful spell with a Dutch club or something? I only ask because he seems like an odd choice given the ex-internationals you have scattered around with decent CV’s and certainly higher profiles and better reputations as players and coaches. If I didn’t know who had it and you asked me to name 20 ex players who could conceivably be in that job I doubt I’d name him as one.

Looking at video footage on Aguero elbowing Reid, I can barely see any direct contact on Reid’s face. I think based on the footage and angles that I have seen, Aguero barely grazed Reid’s face (if any) but I guess Aguero’s bad intention was there nontheless so I guess that’s why he might get banned.

    Cookie,

Has enough time passed that we can assume Lamela is in the clear (until next time)?

    Cookie,

I like the argument that, with all the new faces, it would be best to hold off a few weeks to see how the dust settles (I’m assuming that adjusting the forward line, even with the money I will hold for Kun, plus the newbies, will make it pretty imperative). Thanks once again.
