New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2016/17. Remy, Hull, Chambers, Chadli.
Signings galore, loan deals, club record deals – it’s all kicking off! Today we look at some mid to lower price options and the effect that their moves will have in FPL terms. First up is Loic Remy swapping London clubs to join Benteke at Palace in a move that could provide a brilliant fantasy football option if he can stay fit. Then we move to Hull as they sign three players in one day and continue their Scottish revolution at the club (GP will be so pleased, what the hell happened to Hadrian’s Wall?!). Further north at Boro, Calum Chambers has signed for a season-long loan to escape an inevitable injury at Arsenal, before we end up with another north London escapee as Nacer Chadli leaves attacking, free-scoring Spurs for a move to Premier League dullard West Brom. As Greavsie said, it truly is a funny old game.

Loic Remy (Crystal Palace – forward – FPL price 6.4mln)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]So the Eagles have gone from having just Connor Wickham up front to enjoying the luxury of Christian Benteke and now Loic Remy, after the French striker joined Palace on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Frozen out at the Bridge by Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi as well as numerous injuries, Remy has decided to rejoin his old mate Pardew south of the river. The two were of course together at Newcastle and Remy clearly quite likes Pardew: “This is a very good chance for me and a big opportunity. It was very important to know Alan Pardew as he is a very good manager and I am happy to be here.” Pardew himself says that Remy has been a target all throughout the summer and “I brought him to Newcastle so I know what he is capable of and I am convinced he will be a quality addition to our squad as we evolve.”
Aside from his time at Chelsea, Remy has an excellent scoring record – 26 goals in 68 appearances for Nice, 27 goals in 68 appearances for Marseille, 6 goals in 16 appearances for QPR and 14 goals in 26 goals for Newcastle – he has also scored 7 goals in 31 caps for native France.
Pardew has spoken a lot lately about his the team’s changing dynamic that will see them have the option to play two up front and one would imagine that Remy and Benteke could become an interesting partnership for Palace. There is a question mark on Remy’s match fitness so again, it’s a wait and see, but priced at just 6.4mln, it will only take the striker to score a goal or two for another bandwagon to start. First and foremost we need to see a Palace revival – they have been shocking for the whole calendar year thus far and the so-called “good fixtures” will only last for so long – if Pardew cannot start to get his team performing then frankly no-one at Palace will be worth touching – this is the bigger issue here.

Hull Tigers – caretaker boss Mike Phelan moans he only has 14 fit players to choose from and needs new signings and then, like waiting for a bus, three turn up in one day.
David Marshall – (Hull – goalkeeper – FPL price 4.5mln)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]With Allan McGregor sidelined until the New Year, Phelan decided he needed competition in goal and has managed to secure the services of Scot David Marshall from Cardiff to compete with Eldin Jakupovic. We would expect Marshall to become the no.1 keeper for Hull, which if happens will disappoint the 20% of FPL managers who currently own Jakupovic. Marshall will feel at home at Hull, joining the Scottish contingent of McGregor, Shaun Maloney, Robert Snodgrass and Andrew Robertson at the club. The keeper made almost 300 appearances for Cardiff, helping them to win promotion to the Premier League in 2013 as they finished as Championship Champions, beating the Tigers to the title. With 24 international caps, Marshall is a regular for Scotland and features in manager Gordon Strachan’s latest squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Malta next Sunday.
Will Keane – (Hull – forward – FPL price 4.5mln)
A product of the Man Utd academy, injury has prevented the 23 year-old Keane from making a career at Old Trafford. Keane suffered a knee ligament injury in May 2012 which saw him sidelined for over a year and on his return he has spent much of the last few years on loan at Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston. The lure of working again with Mike Phelan was a big factor in Keane agreeing to join Hull. Keane will be remembered at United for scoring the first goal of the ‘Mourinho era’ in a friendly at Wigan in July but having travelled to China for United’s pre-season tour he was demoted to the Reserves when Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined the Reds. The striker just wants to play football – “I’m 23 now, so I wanted to come here on a permanent transfer and get settled. I’m at that age where I want to be playing as many games as possible. I’ve been at United for a long time, so it is the end of an era but I couldn’t really see a path through to the first team there. I’m relishing coming to Hull. Mike Phelan was a big factor in the move. I spoke to him a couple of times before making the decision, and obviously he was at United as assistant manager when I made my first team debut there.”
Ryan Mason (Hull – midfielder – FPL price 4.9mln)
The Tigers have paid a club record (yet undisclosed) fee to bring Ryan Mason from Spurs. Mason suffered an injury hit campaign last season which resulted in him making just eight league starts and he found himself behind Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and now Victor Wanyama in the pecking order under Pochettino. The midfielder was always being courted by Sunderland but has decided to join Hull instead saying, “I am excited to be here and see this as a new start for me and am looking forward to getting started.” Mason has a single England cap and was highly thought of by Spurs, but the lure of regular first team football persuaded him to move. His price brings him into the bracket of the cheap 5th midfielder and if he can turn his promise into delivery then he could well be worth investing in especially as he has an eye for goal, having started life as a striker.

Calum Chambers – (Middlesbrough – defender – FPL price 4.5mln)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Middlesbrough have signed Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old, who can play centrally or at right-back, joined the Gunners from Southampton for £16mln in 2014, quickly becoming a first-team regular for Arsenal, and won three senior caps for England, but he only featured 12 times in the league last season. With injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel and with Laurent Koscielny lacking a pre-season, Chambers started alongside Rob Holding vs Liverpool in GW1, but despite scoring that day, Koscielny’s return meant Chambers found himself competing with Holding for the slot alongside Kos. Chambers lost that battle and as soon as the signing of Shkodran Mustafi was confirmed, the club agreed to loan him out to Boro in order for him to gain further first team experience in the Premier League.

Nacer Chadli – (West Brom – midfielder – FPL price 6.4mln)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]The Baggies have signed Chadli from Spurs for a club record fee of £13mln on a four-year deal. The Belgian arrives after making 119 appearances, scoring 25 goals, for Tottenham who he joined from Twente for £7mln in 2013. He played 40 times for Spurs last season but has not featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term. His most successful season at Spurs was in 2014/15 when he scored 11 goals in 35 league appearances, but found himself overshadowed by the continued emergence of Harry Kane and the sudden explosiveness of Dele Alli last season, while the consistency of Christian Eriksen and the development of Erik Lamela also proved a stumbling block for Chadli. Regarding his move to Albion, Chadli says, “I feel very good to be here. It came very quickly but I spoke to the club and they have a good team, a good manager and I am very pleased to be here. My ambitions? I just want to help the team win as many games as possible.” Manager Tony Pulis said: “He’s a top, top player and I’m delighted we’ve got him. I said last week that these signings all had to be about players who would improve our squad – and Nacer does precisely that.”
The question mark from a FPL view is of course Albion themselves and the style of play preferred by their manager – they are not a team known to be free scoring and carefree – maybe that changes to an extent with Chadli on board – if he can link up well with Salomon Rondon then a 6.4mln investment in Chadli may prove a shrewd move – there are four fixtures now that give Chadli the chance to make himself an instant hero at the Hawthorns (vs Bournemouth, West Ham, Stoke and Sunderland).

Hello people..down with viral.bloody feels like i’ve been hit by a car or something. Anyhow.. i’vd decided to stick with aguero till he’s back for swansea match. Thinking of doing deulofeu to bolasie. Havw only one FT. any other suggestions? Team is linked with the name. Cheers
I would ditch Kun tbh, 13mil sat on your bench for 3 weeks
2 weeks , only, there is an EFL cup game that counts as one of the 3.
So its costing 2FTs to swap to Costa/Lukaku for 2 weeks
or 4FTs to use the extra cash to boost your 34d,4th or 5th mid.
Factor in you only have 2 FTs and prob could do with those for other injuries & changes you are talking up a 16 point hit that the alternate players will need to score over & above what you already have in your team.
That’s not exactly what Id call a dead cert cast iron no fail plan.
Get rid of Kun
Hi constant, hope you feel better soon. Looking at your team I think I’d ditch Kun for 2 weeks and mainly because it basically leaves you with just the one striker otherwise I think.
And now Stones manages to keep a CS. What an arseface.
Snodgrass scored a hatty, what a beast.
