The Pre-season Friendly Hub
Pre-season friendlies have begun. The time of year where you sit down to watch a game and then it is ruined in the second half by subs being made every two minutes of the second half. You forget who is playing where and generally drift away to write an article about it! This happened yesterday – Preston North End v Liverpool had 43 substitutions and so as my interest waned, I checked out all the Premier League teams and how their pre-season either shaped up or had begun. From a fantasy point of view, it is worth while keeping an eye on these matches regardless of how meaningless you think they are. They often throw up little nuggets of information which can help you settle your initial squad and prepare you for future transfers. Bear in mind though that it has been known for players to play all pre-season and then the search party is out for them on GW1! But it is better having pre-season information and basing your selection policy and your transfer strategies on them than going in completely blind. Here follows some information on what has already gone on. Our grand plan here is that you use this article to post as normal for now but then refer back to it as and when tou have any relevant pre-season info to add and post relevant comments to keep it updated over the next few weeks. So please take it upon yourself to add in the comments, any information from pre-season games, training or whatever… You might just be helping one fellow manager with a nugget of information but that’s what FF247 is all about.

I’ve currently got Hazard in my draft, but I need to free up some cash, while keeping strong Chelsea coverage. I’m thinking either Fabregas or Oscar. Thoughts?
Evening PvR,
Had Hazard from the start all season BUT this year with prices so high & such a huge MF minefield to trawl through in cheslki then I would suggest only hazard & matic is nailed on with mostly others being rotated.
Oscar anticipate will be rested early on by mourinho due to his WC exploits so would say only guaranteed starters would be likes of courtois, costa, matic & hazard but even hazard could be given extended rest period because of his WC exploits ?
You make some good points mate. It will be interesting to see what Jose does. Is there a chance he could play both Lukaku and Costa together up front?
Would love to see that BUT with such a huge MF selection to hand in his squad then he has based all signings on playing a single sole striker with MF runners supporting the likes of costa who will hold the ball & link up with the likes of hazard, fabregas, Oscar, schurrle, willian etc.
So it’s a shame but don’t see lukaku & costa playing in the same matches.
Yeah, still the possibility Lukaku leaves anyway, but surely then Jose would look at bringing another striker into the mix.
Already bringing in another striker in drogba almost signed the paperwork and done deal probably by end of play tomorrow. Think drogba will be 3rd choice behind torres but then again torres is shockingly bad since leaving pool so could be 2nd choice by the end of the week haha.
So who have we found in terms of bargain defense? I’ve got Duff, he’s a sure starter for Burnley, and he managed to score a goal last season as well. Anyone else perhaps found a 4.0 playing defender?
Potentially Hooiveld of Southampton @ 4.0M, playing the pre-season matches as Lovren sold to pool & scored again today ?
Seems to be playing alongside Fonte regularly in pre-season matches so far.
So got him in the squad tonight ahead of Upson.
Righto, i’ll keep an eye on him.
Has anybody found a 4.5M midfield starter in amongst the depths of all the squads ? …
I currently have Poyet of West Ham @ 4.5M but unsure of his game time so looking for a bench warmer that would be available to step in worst case scenario but would mainly be 2nd or 3rd sub majority of time ?
King for Burnley got some good game time last season, and 7 goals.
King of Leicester you mean as there is no king in burnley that I can see ?
Sorry, that’s for Leicester not Burnley!
Haha, my bad.
Going by last seasons league games, for Burnley there is:
Jones-Played 46 Scored 1
Marney-Played 38 Scored 3
Wallace-Played 5 scored 0
Not to sure about Steven Reid, he may take that 4th spot over Jones or Marney?
Albrighton seems to be very popular.
Hi Mito, only thing with albrighton was that he never really cut it at Villa even with their poor players so though he might play will not be depended upon for any real points but good last sub potentially.
Look at some of the Burnley and Leicester mids mate. Not sure who will start but could find out if you cant.
Burnley and Leicester articles coming up in the next 2 days. Burnley will be up in about half an hour actually so hopefully the lads will have done the leg-work for us all.
Well that would be a bonus indeed as have no knowledge or information of burnley & Leicester players so roll on the articles
Alright I’ll leave it to the pros then 😉
I wouldn’t go that far it’s only Eddy and NZAlex :hippo:
Hi Eddy and Alex
Right then guys gotta crash out as exhausted but will browse the article once I arrive in the office in the morning.
Good night lads & catch you all soon.
hahaha, well the QPR article was great (thanks GP, I think it was you who wrote it?), so they’ve got some high standards to match.
Alright night mate, hope I managed to help in some way…
Cheers Marky, night pal
