The Pre-season Friendly Hub
Pre-season friendlies have begun. The time of year where you sit down to watch a game and then it is ruined in the second half by subs being made every two minutes of the second half. You forget who is playing where and generally drift away to write an article about it! This happened yesterday – Preston North End v Liverpool had 43 substitutions and so as my interest waned, I checked out all the Premier League teams and how their pre-season either shaped up or had begun. From a fantasy point of view, it is worth while keeping an eye on these matches regardless of how meaningless you think they are. They often throw up little nuggets of information which can help you settle your initial squad and prepare you for future transfers. Bear in mind though that it has been known for players to play all pre-season and then the search party is out for them on GW1! But it is better having pre-season information and basing your selection policy and your transfer strategies on them than going in completely blind. Here follows some information on what has already gone on. Our grand plan here is that you use this article to post as normal for now but then refer back to it as and when tou have any relevant pre-season info to add and post relevant comments to keep it updated over the next few weeks. So please take it upon yourself to add in the comments, any information from pre-season games, training or whatever… You might just be helping one fellow manager with a nugget of information but that’s what FF247 is all about.

Stoke kicked off with a decent draw against Borussia Moenchenflapjack (sic) today and will continue preparations with two more games in Germany 1860 Munich on 26th July and then Schalke 04 on 29th. They return to England to take on Burton and Blackburn in two days (2nd and 3rd August) before their ‘glamour’ home friendly on 6th August against relegated Real Betis. Strangely, they then go back to Germany to meet SC Freiburg on the 9th to cap a busy pre-season schedule.

I have 3 front lines which ime debating on.
Sturridge – Costa- Dzeko
Rooney – giroud – Aguero
RVP – Dzeko – Giroud
Ant
Can you do Rooney, Costa and Dzeko?
I like the look of that.
GP, exactly the front 3 I want. Currently 1m shy so have Pelle over Dzeko.
Can someone lend me £20,000,000 so i can throw a decent squad together?
Mutley
Cash or cheque?
Cash is king
Mutley
Then you’re out of luck I’m afraid :p
That’s amazing Mutts, saw your comment and thought ‘haha, some great exaggerating for effect there’ 😉
But then I went and made the exact squad I would have if money was no issue at all, and I was EXACTLY 20m over-budget! :worthy:
lol
RMT Please
DeGea MyHill
Debuchy Davies(TOT) Bruce Clyne Colocini
Sanchez Hazard Eriksen DeJong Albrighton
Rooney Giroud Pelle
GoldenBull
I think this is a decent squad. Maybe one or two tweaks.
I would aim for two playing goalkeepers of you can. It’s a nice safety net for the season if you have that.
Monitor Clyne v Chambers at Southampton. Watch Bruce gametime too.
De Jong and Pelle may do very well.
Like the midfield a lot. Giroud may reap the rewards of Alexis being there but be prepared for people telling you to drop him!
Thnx Gallant Pioneer! What do you say of Begovic and Krul as rotation keepers with Begovic getting the greater share of starts in fpl?
GoldenBull
Don’t have the fixtures to hand but those are two very good goalkeepers to have. You should have a decent shout for a clean sheet most weeks.
I have Krul and Mannone currently.
Loving Clyne in there Golden
I don’t know what Spurs’ defence plan is, but if Davies move does go through then they will have a higher number of potential starters than I’d be comfortable with (seems Chelsea will be playing 4 out of a possible 5, and I still am not 100% happy with any of them!), so at least keep a close eye on things during pre-season if you want to stick with Davies.
It seems most people prefer Williamson over Coloccini, so I’m gathering he’s more nailed on.
Again, keep an eye on how many minutes Bruce gets over the summer.
Great front 7
Evening all help needed Luis or Cahill , Jones or Smalling trying to sort def out.
Silverback
To difficult to guess LVG just now – wait to see who else signs and who plays where pre season.
I think Cahill and Luis both have solid claims for your team. Maybe Cahill is less of a risk with his league experience.
I’d wait on Jones and Smalling if i were you.
Skybet just slashed the odds on Hummels to United to 2/5
Now gone 1/3.
I’ be happy with that signing if it happens.
i heard lvg could go for hummels or vlarr so id hold off utd defence for now.
i’d expect luiz to be a starter, plus he’s 0.5 cheaper, but im going for courtois as he’s 6.0mil too and nailed (and class!)!!
Evening all, now how’s that tinkering coming along?!
Given up tinkering for the moment, will wait to see what transfers happen an then sort team out with about a week to go.
My mid is looking weak though.
Evening Cookie, tinkered about as much as possible I think, just a case of waiting now to see what new signings will come and who the regulars will be. An extra 3m would go a looong way. How’s your team looking?
CC, don’t think I’ll ever be happy with it but I’ll chuck what I’ve come up with so far and you can all tear it to pieces!!
De Gea
Filipe Luis, Williamson, Chester
Fabregas, Ramsey, Tadic, de Jong
Rooney, Costa, Dzeko
Subs: Myhill, Chambers, Albrighton, Jones (Sunderland)
Obviously there is nothing in the bank!!
I couldn’t bring myself to throw a Chelsea mid in from the start, there are just way too many to avoid rotation.
I hear you there Mutts and still at the back of my mind think Schurrle is well worth 7.5mln. However, I overthought things too much last year re rotation and just think you have to go with someone you think will play the vast majority of matches.
+1, only one I’d go for is Hazard and just can’t afford him. Fabregas –> Silva? Tadic looks good, and I’m worried about not having Ramsey myself now :-/
And you have the front line I want but can quite afford :cuss:
just nipping out, back in 20 mins an i’ll chuck my team up with a midfield that needs vast improvement.
CC, I’m quite keen on maxing out on Chelsea at the start, at least until CL starts – I think Jose will be gunning for the league this season having pretty much thrown it away last season.
Silva is great as is Mata, esp with United’s start but I can’t have everyone!
IMO, mouriho didn’t spend 30 mil on Fabrigas to bench him!!
I think he’ll play the majority of matches…
Schurrlle is class I think – he’s direct skillful and makes great runs – but with oscar and willian? Personally I think he should move to a club that playes him as much as he deserves to be played…
You think Faberge will do well in FPL terms then Cookie? I’d have thought he’d be playing a deeper role this season.
CC I can see Fabregas playing behind Costa in a 4-2-3-1 formation but I could be very wrong! Can see him, Hazard on the left and Oscar/Willian/Schurrle on the right.
There was this stat that fabrigas put in 3 times as many through balls per minute than silva (who has the most in the pl).
I doubt he’ll do badly, but if he does, I just take him out for some cheapy, and buy Costa with the cash I made!
Albrighton’s been getting a lot of love today as I’ve seen him being the fifth wheel in a lot of peoples line ups including my own, I take it none of us have him to play we’ve just put a Leicester player in for show.
Andy I’m hoping a midfielder as cheap comes to light between now and the start of the season!
I was extremly surprised we sold him Andy – i thought he was one of our best players last season!!
A star for a lower team? 4.5 mil?
There’s no one close to as good for the price!!
The main problem is Leicester’s opening 5 games bob, they all look like shockers, I doubt they’ll be able to return many goals or CS’s from that lot.
yeah…
i’d hate to waste a ft to transfer in a 4.5 mil player 5 games into the season!!
If all goes to plan he’ll never even need to play…
hard work!
my defence is absoultely awful and i still barely have an attack id love with the extra cash!!
It’s a tough one this season Bob
it sure is!
why did hey have to make everyone so expensive?
