Aston Villa 0-3 Man Utd
Man Utd were dealt a huge blow midweek with the news that Robin van Persie would be side-lined for about a month with a thigh injury. Aston Villa were without the influential Fabien Delph who was serving a one game suspension and the Villains were hoping to end their abysmal home run against Utd, their last league win against Utd was 18 years ago. Sadly for Villa after just 18 minutes of play they found themselves two nil down thanks to Danny Welbeck. The first came after Adnan Januzaj had hit the post and Welbeck was first on hand to slot home, the second came three minutes later following great work from Antonio Valencia down the right who produced a pinpoint cross into the path of Welbeck to convert. Man Utd keep up the pressure in the first half and both Welbeck and Wayne Rooney came close to increasing the lead. Villa on the other hand failed to test David de Gea. The second half was a feisty affair, de Gea and Gabriel Agbonlahor had a handbags moment shortly after the re-start which resulted in both being booked. Agbonlahor will therefore miss Villas next fixture away at Stoke. Utd kept up the pressure and were rewarded on 52 minutes when Tom Cleverley (yes that is correct!) finished off a Wayne Rooney assist to make it three nil. Mathew Lowton was the next name in the referee’s book when he caught Januzaj and shortly afterwards Utd supporters rose in unison to welcome the return of Darren Fletcher following serious illness. Rooney was unfortunate when he found himself clean through only for the referee to bring play back following more handbags by Welbeck and Nathan Baker. The remainder of the match just petered out with no more clear cut chances, Villas Ciaran Clark was booked and Christian Benteke was missing in action again and is clearly short of confidence. Man Utd will take some positives from this result, three crucial points, a comfortable win and signs that when they attack down the flanks the Red Devils can be a handful, Villa though will be very concerned with their poor run of form.
Bonus points: Welbeck (3) Cleverley (2) Jones & Valencia (1)
Norwich 1-1 Swansea
This intriguing encounter at Carrow Road saw Swansea without the industrious Chico Flores who was suspended and the home side were without their influential midfield pair of Robert Snodgrass and Anthony Pilkington due to injury. Fantasy managers were hoping this game would be as action-packed as the previous six meetings which have produced 25 goals and the signs at first were promising when Nathan Dyer put Swansea ahead on 12 minutes following a great passage of play from Ashley Williams. Michu should have doubled the lead but took a wild stab and saw his effort sail over the bar. The turning point in the first half came shortly after Dyer was stretchered off the field with a nasty ankle injury, when deep into stoppage time Johan Elmander found Gary Hooper and the former Celtic Forward unleashed a 25 yard volley that gave Michel Vorm no chance. The second half was a messy affair, Swansea were frustrated by The Canaries and picked up silly yellow cards, Angel Rangel, Michel Vorm and Jose Canas were all booked by the referee. Hooper was denied late on following great work by Leroy Fer and Michael Turner headed against the bar. Norwich will be disappointed not to have taken all three points, they were denied by the woodwork and outstanding goalkeeping by Vorm.
Bonus points: Hooper (3) Dyer & Williams (2)
Tottenham 0-5 Liverpool
Sundays stand out game was the visit of Liverpool to White Hart Lane who had their captain Steven Gerrard missing due to injury. Spurs had enjoyed a small run of form but have won only one of their last five home league matches. The first 45 minutes showed a side to Liverpool that has been lacking away from Anfield. They were relentless at times against Spurs, Phillipe Coutinho had a great chance after just 2 minutes following good work from Liverpool’s Stand in Captain Luis Suarez but the Brazilian scuffed his shot. Liverpools passing was played at a high tempo and was slick and they broke through the Spurs defence on 18 minutes when, following a period of extended pressure, Michael Dawson lost possession to Jordan Henderson and his pass found Suarez who obliged with a brilliantly well placed finish. Liverpool now had the bit between their teeth and Coutinho saw an effort hit the crossbar and Spurs were then forced into an early substitution when Sandro retired injured. To compound his departure more sustained pressure from Liverpool saw Henderson calmly volleying into the goal for Liverpool’s second after an effort by Suarez had been saved. Just before the break Simon Mignolet was fortunate when an effort by Roberto Soldado was disallowed following a shoulder barge. The second half performance by Liverpool showcased their potential, and the result was devastating to Spurs. Goals from Jon Flanagan, Raheem Sterling and Suarez were no more than Liverpool deserved and Spurs’ job was made all the harder when Paulinho was red carded in the 63rd minute for a foul on Suarez. The standout performance has to go to Suarez, 2 goals and three assists says it all, the home fans had long gone as the sound of You’ll Never Walk Alone reverberated around White Hart Lane. The result moves The Reds up to 2nd place, just 2 points off top spot. Sensational!
Bonus points: Suarez (3) Henderson (2) Flanagan (1)

What have I done?
My team was
Pantilimon (Lewis)
Terry Mert Coleman (Gabbidon Rosenior)
Barkley Yaya Ramsey Hazard (Brady)
Kun Suarez Rooney
I had 2FT and have used them as such
Kun > Wellbeck
Brady > Silva
Would have preferred Lukaku but was 0.1 short and I REALLY wanted Silva
I also REALLY want Wally but will have to be patient.
Can’t help feeling I went too quick..
Want does anyone else think??
Also a first time poster here
Welcome aboard!!
Rookie – Welbeck is a ballsy move,i considered it last night too but opted to look elsewhere,a lot of managers will be making early moves this week,i’d say only the most patient of managers will hang on until thursday/friday.
Thanks NIN for the reply and the welcome! patience is not one of my strengths!
Rookie – Same here haha,i was good at holding at the start of the season but have slipped back into old habits, should really stop though, there’s nothing worse than having your transfers done and then picking up an injury or two..
has worked for me so far tbh – team value is over £110M due to early moves – but I know I have been lucky injury wise.
In the same boat as you mate, wanted silva and walcott, got Silva, biding my time for walcott. Will have him in by the time the Jan wildcad comes around which I dont see as too bad a scenario as we are still unsure on his playtime, or how his inclusion in the team will alter the formation (and subsequently ramsey’s input). Without walcott its a clear 4-3-3/4-5-1 with walcott its more of a 4-2-2-2. If walcott is a keeper then I might sell ramsey as I can see his lung bursting runs into the box becoming less frequent as he’ll have to cover the gaping holes left by walcott et al.
Like others, I am dealing with the Aguero injury issue. Here’s my team
Guzan Marshall
Terry Coleman Distin Gabiddon Clyne (injured)
Hazard Ramsey Lallana El Ahmadi Morrison (Ravel)
Suarez Rooney Aguero
1FT .3m in bank
I’d like to do a few moves, but don’t want to take the hits. So…
Aguero to Negredo, giving me some City coverage?
Aguero to Lukaku, saving me a little cash and then get City coverage next week?
With a -4 hit I could get do either of the above and then get in YaYa or Silva for Lallana
I want to get Terry and Morrison out and probably Cabaye in, but that’s got to be later given my Aguero issue.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
@Denon96 sorry for the late response. I would say Lukaku if you plan on getting a City mid. That would expand your coverage with your front 7 and take advantage of the nice fixtures that Everton has as well as making sure you have an important player in the goal machine that is City so far. Plus the extra cash will also open up some options for you when you try to replace Terry ( Which I will be happy to escort to the door for you ) and Ravel as you seek to kick them off your squad.
Thanks. That helps. We’re thinking the same. I’ll go Lukaku now (even though I’m 4th in my mini and all 3 above me also own him). (Rooney can be my forward differential.)
Sounds like you wouldn’t take the -4 hit and get rid of Lallana for YaYa or Silva now, right? Just go without City coverage for this week’s away match at Fulham and then bring one of them in next week using the Terry funds and getting rid of Ravel. Lallana hasn’t gotten me much lately, but I’m thinking home against Spurs after just firing AVB could be good for Southampton.
@Denon sounds terrifying when you phrase it that way. No City coverage sounds ludicrous after the maulings they have given people. I would probably risk it because they are away, but I would not blame you if you protected yourself against not being left out in the cold with a 4 point hit.
I know what you mean, thus, my dilemma. The bad thing is that if I bring in Lukaku and get rid of Morrison it leaves me with 8.8m. That’s enough for Nasri (8.3), but not Silva (9.1) or YaYa (9.6). But Nasri isn’t really the guy I want long-term.
So to get Silva/YaYa I have to get rid of Lallana or get rid of Terry now and then the hit isn’t -4, but -8, which probably doesn’t make sense.
Ugh.
Anyone else holding off on ManCity related transfers until after their Tuesday cup game? Or jump right in due to price changes?
I believe we are in jump city here.
I dropped Aguero already.
Also this might be a stupid question but, if a price rise of over 100% is shown on totalfpl, when does that increase take place on the FPL site?
about 3am that night/next morning
Colriles – Yep,green for a rise and red for a drop,it’s a great site,very helpful indeed.
So if Negredo’s shown at +129% today, his price on FPL won’t increase until 3am tomorrow morning (10pm tonight here in the US)?
you got it man
Colriles – Precisely, and players can only rise/drop by 0.3m per GW and no more than 0.1m in a single day,i’m not sure about time difference..i’m in Ireland and it changes at about 1.45am for me..or there abouts anyway..no later than say 2am for me..hope that helps a bit.
Cheers. Thanks all. Now I’ll just torture myself the rest of the day!

am i in that one already Mito?
Rooney or Negredo… I really can’t decide!
I went Negredo, but you already have Silva. Are you happy to double up?
Stats say Negredo, Uniteds attacking effectiveness is on par with Stoke, Norwich, Southampton, and Swansea.
flingy – I think I’ve cracked it! Rooney in now (have City coverage in Silva) then, form depending, possibly do a swap for Negredo after City v Liverpool when they play Palace… what do you think?
Palace have got a better chance of a clean sheet than Liverpool have.
This could be brave or either stupid………
Current team….3-4-2
Mignolet (Boruc)
Coleman,Gabbidon.Fonte ( Rat,Williams)
Yaya Toure, Ramsey Hazard,Silva (Morrison)
Kun Suarez Lukaku
Could it possibly be time to shift formation and new team would be…3-5-2
Mignolet (Boruc)
Coleman,Gabbidon.Fonte ( Rat,Williams)
Yaya Toure, Ramsey Hazard,Silva,Walcott
Suarez Lukaku and ??????
any advice would be helpful. Thanks
*first formation 3-4-3
The Untouchables – I’m toying with the idea of a 3-5-2 after playing my JWC,same midfield except Mirallas instead of Yaya to save money,it’s risky but worth consideration for sure..
Mirrallas good shout with fixtures, tough call maybe need to wait another week to see Walcott to make up my mind any thoughts on my current team as it it?
is Aguero price frozen or will he dip now red!
The Untouchables – Your current squad looks strong to me,Aguero’s price wont be frozen until his red flag is removed so he’s going to plummet over the next few days/weeks.
Who are you likely to go with then Negredo or Rooney?or the 3-5-2 lol
I’ve taken a different route because my midfield badly needed some work,i sold Aguero&Brady for Hooper&Walcott leaving 2.6m in the bank for safe keeping.Going 3-5-2 is only doable for me when my JWC is active,i’ll decide then,Suarez&Lukaku would most likely be the front two if i do it..
Fair play still gives you a strong enough squad to play the 3-5-2,
You should have gone Jay Rodriguez or Shane Long, NIN!
flingy – I considered Rodriguez, but with Sunderland and Fulham next two for Norwich i decided Hoops was way to go,it wouldn’t surprise me if he scored against United too, sigh, harsh times to be a United fan..
