Sunday Review Gameweek 16 FPL Fantasy Premier League

Aston Villa 0-3 Man Utd

_71755608_welbeck_apMan Utd were dealt a huge blow midweek with the news that Robin van Persie would be side-lined for about a month with a thigh injury. Aston Villa were without the influential Fabien Delph who was serving a one game suspension and the Villains were hoping to end their abysmal home run against Utd, their last league win against Utd was 18 years ago. Sadly for Villa after just 18 minutes of play they found themselves two nil down thanks to Danny Welbeck. The first came after Adnan Januzaj had hit the post and Welbeck was first on hand to slot home, the second came three minutes later following great work from Antonio Valencia down the right who produced a pinpoint cross into the path of Welbeck to convert. Man Utd keep up the pressure in the first half and both Welbeck and Wayne Rooney came close to increasing the lead. Villa on the other hand failed to test David de Gea. The second half was a feisty affair, de Gea and Gabriel Agbonlahor had a handbags moment shortly after the re-start which resulted in both being booked. Agbonlahor will therefore miss Villas next fixture away at Stoke. Utd kept up the pressure and were rewarded on 52 minutes when Tom Cleverley (yes that is correct!) finished off a Wayne Rooney assist to make it three nil. Mathew Lowton was the next name in the referee’s book when he caught Januzaj and shortly afterwards Utd supporters rose in unison to welcome the return of Darren Fletcher following serious illness. Rooney was unfortunate when he found himself clean through only for the referee to bring play back following more handbags by Welbeck and Nathan Baker. The remainder of the match just petered out with no more clear cut chances, Villas Ciaran Clark was booked and Christian Benteke was missing in action again and is clearly short of confidence. Man Utd will take some positives from this result, three crucial points, a comfortable win and signs that when they attack down the flanks the Red Devils can be a handful, Villa though will be very concerned with their poor run of form.

Bonus points: Welbeck (3) Cleverley (2) Jones & Valencia (1)

Norwich 1-1 Swansea

hooperThis intriguing encounter at Carrow Road saw Swansea without the industrious Chico Flores who was suspended and the home side were without their influential midfield pair of Robert Snodgrass and Anthony Pilkington due to injury. Fantasy managers were hoping this game would be as action-packed as the previous six meetings which have produced 25 goals and the signs at first were promising when Nathan Dyer put Swansea ahead on 12 minutes following a great passage of play from Ashley Williams.  Michu should have doubled the lead but took a wild stab and saw his effort sail over the bar. The turning point in the first half came shortly after Dyer was stretchered off the field with a nasty ankle injury, when deep into stoppage time Johan Elmander found Gary Hooper and the former Celtic Forward unleashed a 25 yard volley that gave Michel Vorm no chance. The second half was a messy affair, Swansea were frustrated by The Canaries and picked up silly yellow cards, Angel Rangel, Michel Vorm and Jose Canas were all booked by the referee. Hooper was denied late on following great work by Leroy Fer and Michael Turner headed against the bar. Norwich will be disappointed not to have taken all three points, they were denied by the woodwork and outstanding goalkeeping by Vorm.

Bonus points: Hooper (3) Dyer & Williams (2)

Tottenham 0-5 Liverpool

Liv v WhamSundays stand out game was the visit of Liverpool to White Hart Lane who had their captain Steven Gerrard missing due to injury. Spurs had enjoyed a small run of form but have won only one of their last five home league matches. The first 45 minutes showed a side to Liverpool that has been lacking away from Anfield. They were relentless at times against Spurs, Phillipe Coutinho had a great chance after just 2 minutes following good work from Liverpool’s Stand in Captain Luis Suarez but the Brazilian scuffed his shot. Liverpools passing was played at a high tempo and was slick and they broke through the Spurs defence on 18 minutes when, following a period of extended pressure, Michael Dawson lost possession to Jordan Henderson and his pass found Suarez who obliged with a brilliantly well placed finish. Liverpool now had the bit between their teeth and Coutinho saw an effort hit the crossbar and Spurs were then forced into an early substitution when Sandro retired injured. To compound his departure more sustained pressure from Liverpool saw Henderson calmly volleying into the goal for Liverpool’s second after an effort by Suarez had been saved. Just before the break Simon Mignolet was fortunate when an effort by Roberto Soldado was disallowed following a shoulder barge. The second half performance by Liverpool showcased their potential, and the result was devastating to Spurs. Goals from Jon Flanagan, Raheem Sterling and Suarez were no more than Liverpool deserved and Spurs’ job was made all the harder when Paulinho was red carded in the 63rd minute for a foul on Suarez. The standout performance has to go to Suarez, 2 goals and three assists says it all, the home fans had long gone as the sound of You’ll Never Walk Alone reverberated around White Hart Lane. The result moves The Reds up to 2nd place, just 2 points off top spot. Sensational!

Bonus points: Suarez (3) Henderson (2) Flanagan (1)

He has gotta go in my opinion. His price looks to be going down tonight, and Rooney/Negredo’s (the obvious straight swaps) price will be increasing (if not tonight, then tomorrow for sure). He had a scan today and there hasn’t been a statement – if it was good news they would have revealed it straight away? Just a thought.

      • am4r77 says:

I was going to put jay Rodriguez in i know it sounds crazy it could spare me 6 mill I’ll probably go Rooney though

      • Stabilo says:

I had the same thought, bringing in Rodriguez would mean you can afford another midfield big hitter. I generally stick with 3 big names up top so went for Rooney

id wait for further news on the injury. i doubt they will risk him at fulham, but one gameweek out- is it worth loosing the profit you have made on him? doubt it

    peakydave says:

It looks roughly 50-50 (slightly favoured to shrek) between Rooney and Negredo coming in for Aguero transfers!!! smile I’m going Rooney I think!

    • 20.1

Peaky, how was your week pal? Been a while………….

      • peakydave says:

Yes mate very busy!!! Got 71 with Lukaku as cappo sad I had Suarez but was gonna give him captaincy next week,oh well never mind!!! Transfer plans are Rooney,Walcott in for Ageuro,Morrison for a hit!May well wait for tomorrow though as this is when Aguero announcement will be made! How you doing mate??? smile

        • Good week, 84 with Suarez not as capt, damn it! Funnily enough I was thinking of you today, I’m getting Luk back in for Augero, with your words ringing in my ears about not getting rid of him! I like your transfer move and in your shoes would certainly do it for 4PH, so we will know details of injury tom row? Im looking at Wally too, been on my radar for a few weeks and now is the right time, I can get him in for an 8PH:
          Aug to Luk
Vorm to Kelvin Davis (I already have Gazzinga so would work as long as Boric is out till my January WC but could be any keeper under 4.3)
          Morrison to Wally.

          What you think?

        • peakydave says:

Do you have to do the keeper thing?? Its a very guilty pleasure to take a hit on the keeper!! I hate this game though Ive been buzzing round 300 000 all season and just cant get a break! I noticed your not up to your usual standard this year ,but still above me,just smile

        • Yer its the only way I can finance the move, its not through choice. I could get a cheap forward like Rodriguez but maybe i’ll spread it over a few weeks and stick with Luk.
Haha yer it was having such a poor start to the season that screwed me, I’m climbing back up slowly but surly. I have to say, I don’t really worry about my overall position but more about winning my mini-leagues. your team value is amazing and your team is solid. What are your plans for January WC?

        • peakydave says:

Not sure yet I always try and have an aggressive transfer strategy to get value up so the back end of the season I can hope to capatilise on it but this year it all seems to be about the captain picks!!!!Anyway mate im off to get a few hours sleep to catch a bit more of the cricket debacle!!!!Will see u about mate
          Laters Dave smile

      brookyboy says:

Hmmm i’m torn between Negredo and Rooney. The thing that is putting me off Rooney is the position he played today.Very deep !! If he’s gonna miss less than 3 games i might just bench him.

      • Brooky, I have Rooney and I agree. I thought without RVP he’d play further forward not back, Januzaj was more attacking than Rooney! id still transfer out, thats a lot of money to have benched for 3 weeks or so.

        • brookyboy says:

I know but i’d lose a lot of money on him.Got him for 11.3m and would want him back in my team.He was a season keeper for me.Gonna wait to hear tomorrow and make a decision but i read an article earlier that suggested he will miss at least 3 games.

        • I hear you Brooky, its a tricky call for people that got him in early as he has risen so much in price. A word of warning, look at Benteke, he still hasn’t shown his form of pre-injury form………

        • brookyboy says:

True mate but Aguero is in a different class and in a far better team plus he was in brilliant form before his injury. We’ll see tomorrow.

      • hazardeden10 says:

how much did you get aguero for???

    Colriles says:

Ok all, loads of issues to deal with and only 1 FT. Any need for a Wildcard? Would rather not but unsure how to sort this out.

My moves last week were made to setup Noble > Silva this week. Now that’s out the window. Aguero, Cahill, Boruc all injured, Brady &Kun dropping in price. Help!!!

    Gazza (Boruc)
    Coleman, BTurner, MTurner (Shaw, Cahill)
    Hazard, Ramsey, Noble, Oviedo (Brady)
    Suarez, Lukaku, Aguero

      brookyboy says:

You might aswell ride it out till your january wildcard and save your other for a double gameweek now.Wait till tomorrow to hear about Aguero’s injury.Don’t panic ! 😉

      inittowinit says:

Colriles, brookyboy is right in my opinion. Take a hit if need be this week. That WC is worth way more than -4 or even -8 once we get to a DGW later in the season. Don’t forget it’s the teams that progress in the latter stages of the F.A Cup that will have the DGW as well and that tends to be the bigger teams.

    73pts today – and I dropped 10K in overall ranking LOL !
    What a crazy game smile

    • 22.1

HL, thats what we love about it 😉 84 points and I shifted up 25,000!

      • NZ – 60pts separate us – but in ranking that means 240K places !!!
Just wanna say how things can change very quickly, mate !
        I’m not losing hope, I know you won’t too…
We’ll keep our heads high and continue to push up in the rankings, mate
A few good back to back GW’s – and miracles can happen 😉 …

help needed please :)- got 2 FT’s and 0 in the bank.

    Mignolet. Given
    Zabeleta, terry, coleman, turner, gabbidon
    hazard, yaya, ravel, ramsey, lallana
    aguero, suarez, lukaku

      Stabilo says:

Yaya to Silva will give you 0.5mil extra or so, and with Silva fit again Toure tends to sit deeper. Maybe use that to upgrade your midfield? Also Terry has not had a clean sheet in ages and I lost patience with him and transferred him out (made a profit on him too which was good). Maybe swap him for an Arsenal defender once their tough run of games?

      • hazardeden10 says:

yeah i agree. pretty sure terry will be out this week or next. thinking of bring in mertesacker?? what do you think??
yaya is so consistent, and takes free kicks and pens. im not too sure, hes a player i can always rely on, but then again so is silva

      • hazardeden10 says:

also, i bought toure for 9.2, so i dont make any money there

    • 24.2
      brookyboy says:

Wait to see what the news is on Aguero and consider transferring him out if he’s gonna be out a while.I’d be looking to get rid of Lallana.Southampton still have tough fixtures and he was dropped to the bench yesterday.
