No fewer than six players have managed to clock up a suspension for the coming game-week, none more notable than Kevin Nolan, who received a straight red card for a challenge on Jordan Henderson. We rather suspect he may have fancied Christmas off having viewed how rash and unnecessary it was! However, he may not have factored in the Capital One cup match in mid-week next week as he will now only miss 2 FPL games as a result.
Plenty of players are falling foul of the ‘totting up’ rule as 5 yellow cards at this stage of the season means an automatic 1 match suspension. In these situations it may just best to bench your player for a week, if you have substitutes who can cover for you.
First up this week on the 5 yellows front is Fabien Delph who picked up his 5th yellow in the defeat at Craven Cottage. Fabien will now miss the game against Man United this weekend. James McCarthy of Everton will miss this weeks home match against Fulham, following his 5th yellow against Arsenal at the weekend. Jonathan Walters of Stoke may once again be branded a card magnet if things continue, his 5th yellow card to date sees him get the weekend off too, funny really as in the last 3 seasons his record has been great in the Premier League notching up only 11 cards for the 3 seasons combined.
Nolan aside, the other 3 mentioned are all lesser owned in terms of % and it’s more likely that you may have Yohan Cabaye in your team who will also sit out GW16 following his 5th yellow card received at Old Trafford at the weekend. Last but by no means least, Jose Manuel Flores Moreno, or Chico to you and me, will miss the trip Norwich this weekend, following his 5th yellow of the season against Hull.
It’s also worth pointing out, that yellow cards (even if you get two in a match to receive a red) can not be appealed so these suspensions will all stand.
SUSPENDED PLAYERS
Any player who picks up 5 yellow cards prior to 1st January will serve an automatic 1 match suspension. The following players all have 4 yellow cards to their name, meaning, if they collect just 1 more, they will receive an automatic 1 match suspension. Worth a quick check on the list, before you make your transfers, especially later in the season when the suspensions become 2 or 3 games.
Additions to the list below this week include goalkeeper Tim Howard which is quite worrying for many, Gareth Barry (which isn’t) and Swansea’s Ashley Williams, which may be!
PLAYERS ON 4 YELLOWS
Question: do you think there’ll come a time in the season where it is essential to have Mr van Persie in your team, replacing the likes of Suarez/Aguero in out front 3?
Unlikely in my opinion James – not saying he won’t do well but I just think for 2/3/4/5/6 million less you have a number of options that are also scoring and the cash helps you do so much more with your squad.
I really can’t decide whether to take a hit to get Lukaku in for Remy.
I cant decide whether to make the same swap for free!!
I would do it for free Kop. I fancy Remy could do well this week, but I would take Lukaku to outscore him significantly over the next six weeks or so.
Cookie
IMO definitely not for a hit
Smithy my friend, you sound very sure on that. Tell me why you’re convinced please….
Cookie- I’m dead against hits that’s all. Especially when Remy could easily bag a couple at the weekend. Lukaku would have to score 1 more goal than him to break even.
Smithy, thing is I can’t work out how the Toon will do vs Saints. They kept City to one goal, but that was at home and Saints still riddled with injuries. I can see Newcastle seeing 1 but also 4!!! Aaarrggghhhh!!!
NIN, I’m close to doing it and I think over the next few weeks Lukaku will outscore him, but my record of taking hits isn’t that good!
Cookie – I’d go for it,there’s a good chance he does well this weekend and i think Newcastle will struggle with Southampton.
Cookie – Go with your gut i suppose, personally i think Newcastle will lose this weekend,or a low scoring draw at best so Lukaku for me,i’d do it..i’ve actually took a -4 myself for Lukaku haha, here’s hoping!!
I’m assuming Gerrard is going to be out a no of weeks yes?
Dreamers, I understand Rodgers is due to give an announcement on his injury tonight.
Cookster, at least 4 weeks mate. :shake:
Is that confirmed Elle?
Yip, straight from brendan.
Thanks mate – all good info for Team Talk!! Glad I sold him now, although the idiot has buggered up my plans !
thanks Cookie and Ellie
Cooks, who did you replace stevie with ?
Elle, Silva came on for Gerrard
Cooks, im with silva or wally, undecided, have got haz, januzaj, ramsey + whittingham as my other mids, remy, kun + goofy up top, did want to do remy to luk with my ft, don’t know whether to stick with my 4 mids for this week + get luk, your thoughts.
I’m lining up Oscar for the bullet to bring in silva
why Oscar for the bullet? Another assist in CL. I was tempted to double up on Hazard
Elle I would take Silva over Wally for now – firstly I think City will beat Arsenal on Saturday and secondly I think you can wait 2 weeks for Wally, both in terms of fixtures and his fitness.
Cookie – will/would you plan on captaining Lukaku this week?
James, if I have him I would defo captain him this week.
Then in that case I would go for it: a 4pt is nothing if you bring in a player who can earn 20-30 points as (C) – I’m not saying Remy won’t score, but I reckon he’s limited to a 9 pointer this week, as the Saints should hold Newcastle to 1 or 2 goals…
This is all just my opinion, it’s up to you of course
James, that’s my thinking,it’s just when I normally take a hit it rarely works out and the player I sold does ok!!
I just wish Newcastle were doing crap again, then the decision would be easy. Then again Cabaye is out, so maybe they will be less opportunities for him.
Anyway, I see Chamakh is close to going up tonight – maybe I should get him in hahahaha
there is more steel in Fulham than under Jol though now
Chamakh: searching for his 3rd consecutive goal, the man is a machine, on a mission, unstoppable, buy him while you can!
I know I’ll be getting him in tonight…
My weekend points predictions: Remy 2 | Chamakh 1000 | Lukaku 1001
So Lukaku will just edge the captaincy for me 😉
Dreamers, I agree, they have more steel, but still not very good.
James – now you have me thinking hahaha
I have hazard and Oscar was the only other man
Cheers Mutts
Evening guys
Evening, I see we’re on the same number of points right now aha – what transfers have you made this week?
Put Rooney back in for welbeck and took out gerard
