Trends From The Top A look to Gameweek 36
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. This week’s publication is somewhat premature as Arsenal and Hull have yet to play, but after looking at the top 10 and their respective standings, it would be surprising if major upheavals were to ensue. Our leader, Simon March of Atletico Marchid** has remained in the number one position for 12 weeks and currently has a 27 point advantage over his closest competitor. While his claim to the title is not yet confirmed as it is with Chelsea, Simon has played a cool, calm and strategic game. Let’s take a look to see what both he and the other nine top players are up to as well as look to the final few gameweeks.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 35?
For gameweek 35, three different players were given the armband. Aguero (16 points) was the most popular selection with 50% followed by Hazard (12 points) at 40% and Benteke (26 points) at 10%.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 35?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 30% of managers had either Schmeichel (7 points) or Mignolet (2 points). 20% had Pantilimon (2 points) and 10% selected Hart (9 points). Finally, one lucky soul decided a match against Manchester United was no obstacle and selected Myhill thus bringing in 17 points!
Defenders: This week we saw 12 defenders make the cut for top managers. Terry was the most popular pick as he was selected by 90% of managers while Ivanovic came in at 60%. Skrtel had 50% ownership while Morgan was selected by 40%. Bertrand had 20% while Clyne, Alderweireld, Huth, van Aanholt, Fonte, Koscielny, and Wollscheid were each selected by one manager.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 9 different picks. Hazard had 100% ownership while Sterling was the next most popular pick with 80% ownership. Silva had 70% and Coutinho had 40%, Henderson and Fabregas were at 30% with Ozil and Sanchez at 20% and Ramsey at 10%. While it appears that only 1 Arsenal defender made the team for gameweek 35, you can see that Arsenal midfielders are starting to creep in, most likely for the upcoming double gameweek in 37.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. Aguero had 90% ownership followed by Kane at 70%, Vardy at 50%, Giroud at 30% and Benteke wrapping up the group at 20%.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 35 were Terry, Ivanovic, Skrtel, Hazard, Sterling, Silva, Kane, Vardy and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
The average score for Gameweek 35 among the top 10 was 60.2 points which was 29.2 points above average of 31 by the end of Sunday’s matches.
Our top manager is from Singapore and has been in the top 10 for 18 weeks.
England was well represented with 40% ownership followed by Poland, N. Ireland, Ireland, Algeria, Pakistan and Singapore each with 10%.
If looking at GW 37 and the fact that it is a DGW for both Arsenal and Sunderland, Pantilimon and van Aanholt seem to currently be the most popular picks on the Sunderland side while Koscielny, Sanchez, Ramsey, Ozil and Giroud representing Arsenal.
Best of luck in gameweek 36!

Please enjoy this week’s Trends From the Top – many thanks to Beka once again for this brilliant and insightful write up!
Thanks, Cookie! It should be an exciting next few gameweeks. Can’t believe the season is almost over!
Thanks Rebekah! Nice to see what’s going on way up there. I’m impressed that 40% had Morgan… that’s payed off big-time lately.
Question for y’all: which midfielder is the best shout for 6.9m or less?
They will have to play for the remaining 3 gameweeks. Unless I benched them for Boyd if necessary on a given ‘bad’ fixture. At the moment I’m thinking:
A – Downing
B – Lennon
C – Chadli
D – Mane
E – Gomez
F – Other?
What do you reckon? Form and fixtures considered…
Simmo, i may need to look for a slightly cheaper mid and of those i fancy Chadli. I’m doing Kane to Benteke but need 0.9 so thinking of doing Sterling to Chadli just to keep some Spurs coverage.
Hey elle, yeah he’s looking good at 6.2m and with 2 goals in 3 games, decent fixtures too. Would you still recommend him if I was keeping Kane? Last time I doubled up on Spurs they didn’t score enough goals…
About Cazorla, he’s still on penalties which is a major plus, but his role means he tends to assist the assister which isn’t ideal for FPL of course… I wouldn’t mind having him for the DGW but Ramsey (then Ozil) would be my preference. Caz would still be solid though if need be.
Kane to Tekkers sounds like a great move btw.
If i was keeping Kane i wouldn’t double up. I already have Giroud and with cash available it looks like i will have to go Caz then Ramsey, although i could ditch Haz and bring Sanchez in instead of Ramsey in gw37.
Simmo another problem i have, which i think everybody has, is i’ve got 3 Pool players in Moreno, Hendo and Sterling and to be honest we are playing crap at the moment. Shifting them is hard as they don’t generate a lot of dosh to spend.
Ok cheers. Might have to take a punt of Mane but I’ll see…
Sounds like a decent plan. I’m thinking triple Arsenal attack too. The Liverpool issue is partly solved for us by doing Sterling —–> an Arsenal mid. As for Moreno – or Skrtel in my case – they can be benched and then played for Palace at home I reckon. Henderson however needs to go I’d expect. You’re probably looking at some of my options above to replace him…
Chadhi seems like a good bet…20 points in the past 3 gw’s and upcoming games against Stoke, Hull and Everton.
BUT how about GOMEZ? Perhaps he got lucky this week scoring 2 goals but he has 1 extra game, has a .2% ownership an is only 5.1. Should he stay on form, he would be an excellent differential.
I personally say no to Downing.
Thanks bekh. Yep I’ve ruled out Downing and Lennon since posting (and kikda gone off Mane as I’ve seen he’s yellow flagged) so it is becoming a straight choice between the 2 you’ve mentioned.
Do you think Sunderland will continue their revival?
I certainly have no crystal ball but this is what I think…Newcastle is in trouble and the game this past weekend sent a very strong message that neither fan nor player is happy with the current situation. Because of this (and the extra gw for Sunderland to get some points), I think they could avoid relegation while Newcastle continues to nosedive. Crazy? Perhaps but we shall see.
Thanks for the article Beka, its really good to see whats going on at the top table. Would like peoples thoughts on Cazorla, has he been playing a bit more defensively in the last few games ? May have to entertain having him for gw 37 due to dosh available.
Thanks for this Beka. I am sure this proves valuable to many who are looking to figure out how to play it these last couple of weeks. Will be interested in who is making the big gambles risking dropping out of the top 10.
Reminds of me last season when Init sabotaged B-Bash’s season by convincing that Puncheon was a viable option. :hippo:
One last thing, there is something really wrong with having a number and a smiley face outscoring me by an enormous amount.
I agree! …really? Lol.
Hang on a sec! It was more that I bought him and he went bang but Bash didn’t. And so his chance to win it went similarly!
Why ruin a good story? Sounded so much more interesting the other way.
Ok let’s go with your version. Basher I’m sorry for ruining your life.
Lol! No worries mate. Funny thing is the amount of times I was asked would I rather win FPL or Liverpool win the league. I never answered neither which was the actual outcome! It was my 15 minutes and it was actually quite good fun!
Evening all!
Can’t really blame Initt for the drop from top 10 to finishing 82nd in a matter of weeks! I just dont play dgw’s well! Oh, and Puncheon is a tw#t 😉
Sanchez and Ramsey killing a lot of us tonight! My green arrow may well be turning to red later!
Don’t defend him! Take that excuse and run with it. In a couple of years we will say you were in first and Init convinced you into a move that made you lose the FPL Championship. 😉
‘Can’t really’ sounds like you kind of are! Evening mate, just need Ozil with nothing myself really and I’ll be happy enough. Better still if Giroud pulls his finger out! #lovepuncheon 😉
Thanks for the write up Beka!
Am I mad to want to ship out Haz for Sanchez?? I got a score of 62 so far with Giroud & Bellerin to play, which has put me in a good place. But I need to take a few more risks to get near the top of my ML.
Cheers
Current team..
All advice welcome.
Do you have any money in the bank? I’m guessing that your linked team is not really yours..
If you are looking to differeniate yourself I like this idea. By doing this transfer you are basicly betting that Mata performs better than Hazard over the coming weeks. This is not very likely, but again, if you want to climb the rankings you need to take small risks.
LOL Ritz I have no idea how someone else’s team is now linked instead of mine.
I have 1m in the bank, I was thinking of Mata being replaced with a DGW player.
Could anyone suggest any ideas on what I should do next?
Hi guys! Thanks for an Interesting article.. Love these stats!
Anyways, considering two different moves this week:
a) Sterling and Moreno out for Ozil and Bellerin.
b) Sterling and Vardy out for Giroud and Ibe/Brady/4,4m mid.
Any advice? Other proposals are also welcome!
Ritz, i’m in the same boat as you. I’m doing Kane —-> Benteke but am 0.9 short so it looks like Fab out for an Arse mid. Still leaves me with Moreno, Hendo and Sterling unfortunately
Go with a) mate but I think Ibe will be starting more..
