Trends From The Top A look to Gameweek 36

unnamedWelcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. This week’s publication is somewhat premature as Arsenal and Hull have yet to play, but after looking at the top 10 and their respective standings, it would be surprising if major upheavals were to ensue. Our leader, Simon March of Atletico Marchid** has remained in the number one position for 12 weeks and currently has a 27 point advantage over his closest competitor. While his claim to the title is not yet confirmed as it is with Chelsea, Simon has played a cool, calm and strategic game. Let’s take a look to see what both he and the other nine top players are up to as well as look to the final few gameweeks.

Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 35?
For gameweek 35, three different players were given the armband. Aguero (16 points) was the most popular selection with 50% followed by Hazard (12 points) at 40% and Benteke (26 points) at 10%.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 35?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 30% of managers had either Schmeichel (7 points) or Mignolet (2 points). 20% had Pantilimon (2 points) and 10% selected Hart (9 points). Finally, one lucky soul decided a match against Manchester United was no obstacle and selected Myhill thus bringing in 17 points!

Defenders: This week we saw 12 defenders make the cut for top managers. Terry was the most popular pick as he was selected by 90% of managers while Ivanovic came in at 60%. Skrtel had 50% ownership while Morgan was selected by 40%. Bertrand had 20% while Clyne, Alderweireld, Huth, van Aanholt, Fonte, Koscielny, and Wollscheid were each selected by one manager.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 9 different picks. Hazard had 100% ownership while Sterling was the next most popular pick with 80% ownership. Silva had 70% and Coutinho had 40%, Henderson and Fabregas were at 30% with Ozil and Sanchez at 20% and Ramsey at 10%. While it appears that only 1 Arsenal defender made the team for gameweek 35, you can see that Arsenal midfielders are starting to creep in, most likely for the upcoming double gameweek in 37.

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of only 5 picks among the top managers. Aguero had 90% ownership followed by Kane at 70%, Vardy at 50%, Giroud at 30% and Benteke wrapping up the group at 20%.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 35 were Terry, Ivanovic, Skrtel, Hazard, Sterling, Silva, Kane, Vardy and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
The average score for Gameweek 35 among the top 10 was 60.2 points which was 29.2 points above average of 31 by the end of Sunday’s matches.
Our top manager is from Singapore and has been in the top 10 for 18 weeks.
England was well represented with 40% ownership followed by Poland, N. Ireland, Ireland, Algeria, Pakistan and Singapore each with 10%.
If looking at GW 37 and the fact that it is a DGW for both Arsenal and Sunderland, Pantilimon and van Aanholt seem to currently be the most popular picks on the Sunderland side while Koscielny, Sanchez, Ramsey, Ozil and Giroud representing Arsenal.

Best of luck in gameweek 36!

    Morning people, how are we?

Plan A: Sanchez and Ramsey in for fab and sterling with my 2ft’s,
Plan B: plan A plus a 4ph for giroud to Teke and then bring in a Gooners defender before the DGW.

Which do people prefer? Oh and I can afford vardy to Teke. Thanks all.

      Pippin says:

Ciao Alex, about to post more or less the same question. We have quite similar teams, but I guess you got Giroud on the WC and chose Fabregas over double Chelsea at the back…? Comparing, I think your set up is a little bit ahead of mine. I can’t see any way to achieve what I want without at least one hit.

Big question I’m still wrangling over is whether Giroud is essential for the DGW or not. Getting Benteke instead, and then Bellerin as the third Arsenal player (behind two mids, for me Ramsey + Oezil/Caz). Last night they just didn’t pass to him I guess…?

      • Hey pippin, you well my friend? Yup it’s a tricky one alright. I keep thinking hold giroud this week and see how he goes but I really want Teke home against West Ham!! Can you do Kane to giroud? And Ramsey in for sterling this week?

        • Sorry I meant Kane to Teke? Would you talk plan A or B?

        • Pippin says:

Very well Alex, yourself? See you’re still setting us a good example in your scoring- well in!

I am not sure I would be moving Arsenal players out this week, though I see the temptation of Tekkers. Can you afford Vardy > Benteke? And if need be use Cazorla/Oezil in place of Sanchez? Then you would have formidable attack.

I like Benteke and Ramsey in this week. I could then defer my decision on Olivier one more week. For a 4pt hit I could get whichever two Arsenal I wanted for some combination of Ivan/Hendo/Benteke, I guess… I think triple Arsenal mid could be cool. Assuming Wenger doesn’t rotate…

        • Pippin, yup good thanks, I see I am 5 points ahead of you 😉 everything I have seen and read makes me think Sanchez is essential for DGW whereas giroud’s shots on goal are dropping at an alarming rate! With welbeck next week he may be rested also. So what do you think you will do?

        • Pippin says:

Well, my rival in the next H2H has Sanchez and Giroud; I want one of them and then a differential. Sanchez is expensive, and I haven’t left myself much planning room to get him in… Here’s how though:

This week, Sterling and Kane out for Sanchez and Tekkers (woof! what a transfer that could be…)

Next week, use a 4pt hit to get up to my full complement of Arsenal for the DGW. If I wanted three in midfield, I drop Hendo + Hazard. Otherwise, I drop Hendo + Ivan/Terry and get a defender in. First case I get Kos, who is nailed; second case I get Bellerin/Monreal and have to sweat over game time…

        • musungu says:

Pippin – you change your many intentions a lot.
Last week you indicated it was Kane to Giroud numerous times ( yet you made no transfers) Then it was Ramsey for Sterling this week
Now the whole thing is up in the air – are we to look to you for honest intentions on the forum, because you are a top top performer and I feel you should be a good guidance for the many who are not in the top 10,000 but look at their mini leagues,
Sorry to be so blunt but I believe in coming up front

        • Pippin says:

musungu. I think you’ve mistaken my intentions somewhere. The reason I speculate through a number of options is because I’m pretty indecisive when it comes to playing FPL. Secondly, with so many people posting at different times, there’s naturally a bit of repeating and tinkering goes on, so one can hear the thoughts of various people. It isn’t my intention that this leads people into confusion about what I think is the best move to make, but speaking genuinely many of my decisions do go down to the wire. I can’t pretend to get them all right (though this season has gone well). You can either choose to follow people’s advice, or not; ultimately we all succeed or fail here by our own decisions. That said, it’s only a game, and if you don’t feel you can rely on the (albeit ever-changing) suggestions I make or the discussions I am party to, well, there’s no need to follow any of them. Cheers!

Hi Pippin, I’m about to watch the match. Now should I have tea or coffee? It’s all down to you matey. Both have their respective merits but I’ll only have what you’re having 😉

      Raziel says:

Taking out GIroud before the DGW makes 0 sense. He wasn’t involved yesterday but it won’t be like that every game, I hope. >.< I got him and I'm considering either Ramsey plus Sanchez or Bellering/Monreal + Sanchez. Those are hits even. sad

      • Pippin says:

Raz: what’s your preference? Two Arsenal mids + Giroud, or one each from defence, mid, attack. Know anything about rotation possibilities?

        • Raziel says:

Leaning towards Sanchez+Ramsey+McShane/Was (already have GIroud) for 8 point hit myself. Getting rid of Sterling+Coutinho+Ivanovic. I could also go for Bellering+Sanchez for Sterling+Ivanovic for a 4 point hit. I don’t know. Fear Bellerin/Monreal will pull of a Moreno. >.<

        • Pippin says:

Yeah, that’s my worry. That’s why I am tempted by triple midfield but it means no Giroud and losing Hazard, neither of which seem ideal. Should’ve got one of them in with my WC at least and made this problem easier. Keeping Kane has been largely a waste of time. Though, to be fair, so was buying Liverpool 😉

Thinking Skrtel to Monreal & Sterling to Ramsey…

    DDG – Krul

      Raziel says:

Aaah yes, which cheap defender is the safest bet? McShane or Wasilewski? Need 1 to finance Ramsey + Sanchez.

      • Raziel says:

Alreayd have Giroud by the way, this would be for a 8 point hit. I could also do Bellerin/Monreal and Sanchez and that will cost me just a 4 point hit. Which one would you prefer? Ramsey seems on a roll. >.<

        • kaumil says:

Raz, be careful if you are gonna ship in ramsey, cause wilshere looked good after coming off the bench and he would be roaring to cement his place in the side. Plus Ramsey had a knock
in the last game. Plus you cant read the MORON gooner manager. Sighs

        • Raziel says:

          Tnx Kaumil. smile

Problem with that is that ummm well………………………. the problem is………………… aaahh yes……… money……………. >.<

    PeterPan says:

    Hi, need some advise.
    Krul (Pantilimon)
    Koscielny Ivan Bertrand (Dawson Skrtel)
    Boyd Cambiasso Hazard Sterling (Puncheon)
    Aguero Kane Rooney
    2 FT and 0.3m itb

Want to do Rooney, Sterling and Ivan out for Giroud, Sanchez and Terry for a 4PH while I can still afford it.
    Yes/No?
