Trends From The Top- What Are The Leaders Doing? A Look to Game-week 11
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What’s great about ‘trends’ is the fact that they are trends… trends that evolve, dissipate, and adapt. It’s hard to believe that just a couple weeks ago 100% of the top managers had Aguero and now, yet understandably, 0% of the leaders have him on their team. And while it’s always possible to have a bad gameweek, 100% of all the leaders had Sanchez on their team. What other trends will we see this week? Will they help provide us with insight for GW 11? Let’s take a look.
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Game-week 10?
This week, the top leaders were divided among 3 captains. 30% chose most unfortunately as they selected Sanchez (4 points), while another 30% decided to give Vardy the armband (10 points). The remaining 40% advantageously chose Kane which brought in 34 points. Despite 7 out of 10 of the top players having poor or average captain picks, many were able to remain near the summit.

What are some interesting similarities among the top ten?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that fewer of the leaders were the folks we saw early on who were using and exhausting all their chips and wildcards. Two of the leaders have yet to utilize any of the above-mentioned game-play benefits and the average for our leaders is 1.3 when looking at wildcards, all out attack, triple captain or bench boost. Additionally, none of the current leaders have ever had a successful season if one were to define success as finishing in the top 5%.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 10?
Goalkeepers
For this past gameweek 60% of the top managers selected Cech while 30% had Butland and 10% selected Hart.
Defenders
This week we saw 15 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (50%) was once again the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Alderweireld and Bellerin came in at 40% while Azpilicueta was the next most popular pick with 30% ownership followed by Clyne, Smalling, Moreno and Cedric with 20% and Zouma, Jenkinson, Walker, Cresswell, Koscielny, Darmian, and Williams each with 10%.
Midfielders
When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 12 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Cabaye, Bolasie, Ritchie, Mane and Wijnaldum. Sanchez was the most popular pick with 100% ownership followed by Mahrez at 80%, Payet at 70%, De Bruyne with 40%, Ayew with 30%, and Yaya Toure and Ozil each with 20%.
Forwards
This week, the front line consisted of 10 picks among the top managers which again seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Vardy came in with 80% while Kane and Bony were the next popular picks as they each received 40%. Ighalo was selected by 30% of the top managers with Costa and Bernahino receiving 20% and Martial, Ayoze, Pelle and Bojan each receiving 10% a piece.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 10 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, and Vardy as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts…
– The average score for Gameweek 10 among the top 10 was 55.9 points which was only 13.9 points above average for the week. Only 2 weeks ago, the average for our top leaders was 68.5 points above the average!
– England once again dominated the leader board as 50% of the top 10 were from there. The remaining three countries were Australia (currently in 1st), Scotland, Ireland, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
– The average team value was £103.2m with £104m being the highest team value and £102.1m being the lowest value.
– 38 points separates 1st place from 10th.
Best of luck in Game-week 11

Evening all.. any changes you guys suggest on this squad..just got my WC played. think souare’ll be back this week..rest coleman’s price seems to be dropping within this week may be.thanks all.
i mean i have already played my WC past week. just saw that my statement could be misinterpreted..
Have 0.3m itb and 1 ft..
Evening constantine. You could easily leave it be this week and bank the FT. That 11 looks good to me.
1FT £5.1 ITB, all playing chips intact, no WC
Darmian’s playing time is now a concern to me. Is it time to ship him out? Or just keep him there and do Gomis to Lukaku/Kane? Westwood (5th mid) didn’t play last GW so also a concern.
Hi Eagle, I’d keep him there for this week at least. Evans can come in if necessary and you’d still have 11. I’d definitely prioritise Lukaku or Kane as both are good captaincy material for this week.
Init – Thanks very much for your advise. Seems you and GP are agreeing to leave the defense as is this GW and ship out Gomis to Lukaku/Kane but which one? If i go for Kane then i will have 2 Spurs as i already have Toby. Would that really matter since defense and offense are different. I’m aware of Everton embarking on a nice run of fixtures hence thinking about bringing in Lukaku.
I’m probably going Kane myself so it’d be hypocritical to say otherwise but either is a good move in all honesty. Lukaku edges it fixtures wise for a longer period. I’m a sucker for a Monday Night Football captain though so that’s possibly pushing me to Kane right now. Shouldn’t be a consideration I know but it keeps the interest up for longer!
Eagle
Gomis to Kane looks the stand out move to me. Lukaku as a secondary option.
GP – Thanks mate. I now have the tough decision of bringing in Kane (just bagged a hat trick) or Lukaku (nice run of fixtures coming up).
Eagle
Looking a little further it could be said Kane has an even better and longer run of good games coming up.
GP – You are right. Kane’s next 8 are: AVL, ars, WHU, CHE, wba, NEW, sou, NOR.
3 home games in the next 4. Only the Arsenal away game looks hard and the Westham game looks tricky but with goals.
Eagle
I even went further than that. Week 25 I think they are at City in their first ‘biggie’ after the Arsenal/West Ham/Chelsea run, if memory is serving me.
Eagle – Leave Darmian for now, for me. Jonny boy can come in if needs must. Gomis –> Lukaku is the move i would make here.
NIN – Great to hear from you. Appreciate the fact that you take time out to give everyone advice. Very interesting that you prefer Lukaku over Kane. I’m on the fence with this one. Innit and GP are agreeing on Kane. Makes it more difficult to decide.
Cheers! For this week alone, Kane edges it i think. I just don’t much like the few games after this week whereas Everton are playing three of the four worst teams in the league (so far at least) in quick succession.
NIN – I see you’ve made an early move. Did you do the Gomis –> Lukaku move yourself? Just wondering.
Pelle hasn’t done much the past 2 weeks i got him. Both blanks but with his good fixtures i am more than optimistic he will bring home the points.
Same, two blanks from the grease ball since i bought him. No worries there though. Southampton look good as he’s nailed as fook.
I have 2 FT’s this week. Used one for Richards –> Bellerin. Gomis –> Lukaku is next up. Probably tomorrow night before price changes as i’ve got exactly enough to do those moves. Hoping the price change sites don’t shaft me on this one
Rebekah
This is once again a great little roundup of the leaders. Thank you very much for this info.
The Cech & Bellerin ownership within the Top 10 caught my eye particularly – I have neither yet.
Who to replace Gomis with?
1- Pelle
2- Luk
3- Martial
Jogabonito
KANE (if you don’t have him already)
Lukaku
Pelle
Martial
Would be my order.
2
what to do guys?
Bego
Kola Janmaat Naughton
Sanchez Payet Mahrez KDB
Vardy Pelle Costa
bench- Rudd Francis Westwood Oxford
1 FT and 1.8 mn in the bank
Nishant, I have the same front 7 and I’m selling Costa. Probably for Lukaku.
Hi Cookie
I can’t believe some teams I’ve seen have as many as three Chelsea players.
ghost teams you think GP? Seems crazy if not.
Possibly Cookie.
I do believe though some are still scared to go without any Chelsea which is crazy. How many chances were we to give them?
Need to be reactive in this game to do well as you well know mate.
Definitely GP – there are clearly huge problems there, that’s obvious. Quite staggering really. And funny at the same time.
Hilarious!
Nishant
Costa will undoubtedly annoy and maybe score against Liverpool. But I wouldn’t keep him too much longer either way.
Begovic to Lloris might be a nice move for you.
Evening nishant. Janmaat / Naughton –> Bellerin. Front seven looks fine for this week.
Hi Guys
Is Mane banned as he still shows blue on FPL?
Kruz, his ban will be served midweek in the Capital One Cup – he’s available for GW11.
Cheers Cookie
Glad to bring good news Kruz
