Trends From The Top Gameweek 6
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. Last week we saw a lot of our current “leaders” rise to the top by taking advantage of the new chips. What trends did we see this week? What are the leaders doing and will they continue to maintain their leads?
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 6?
This week, 50% of top managers wisely selected Mahrez (22 points) as their captain pick. And while in hindsight this makes sense, and many of us wish we had done the same, two of these managers actually initially selected Silva over him and had Mahrez as their vice captain choice. 20% of our leaders selected Aguero (10 points) and Wilson (14 points) while the remaining manager chose Pelle (26 points but again this also a vice captain choice to Silva).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have used many if not all of their chips! 3 of the top 10 have exhausted ALL of their chips and the manager currently holding the 5th position also deployed their wildcard in gameweek 3.

What are some other interesting findings regarding the leaders?
– Only 3 of this week’s managers were in the Top Ten for gameweek 5.
– The best finish for any of these players was 61,276 (manager in 8th).
– Our current leader’s best finish was 374,049 and he has played for 8 seasons. (He sure gets bragging rights for this week but his reign will possibly be short-lived).
– 3 of the top players have no past season experience.
– I tend to be of the opinion that research, knowledge, analysis and a bit of luck help propel folks to the top. I also believe that top performers have a history of repeated success. Therefore, I would be most shocked if any of these players made it beyond the next few weeks in the FF top 10.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 6?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 10% had Hart, Butland, Mignolet, Boruc and de Gea.
Defenders: This week we saw 18 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (80%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Azpilicueta came in at 40% while Koscielny, Fonte and Smalling were the next most popular picks with 20% ownership followed by Cresswell, Darmian, Martin, Jagielka, Alderweireld, Sagna, Targett, Skrtel, Richards, Ivanovic, Bellerin, Francis, and Amavi each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 14 different picks with Mahrez being the most popular with 100% ownership followed by Ayew, Barkley and Yaya Toure at 40%, Wijnaldum and Payet at 30% and Tadic, Mata and Pedro at 20%. Several others managed only 10% of the vote such as Coutinho, Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez, and Sako
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of a whopping 11 picks among the top managers which seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Pelle came in with 60% while Wilson was the next popular pick as he received 40%. Benteke, Vardy and Gomis were selected by 30% of the top managers with Aguero receiving just 20% and Lukaku, Martial, Defoe and Ighalo each receiving 10% a piece.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 6 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Mahrez and Pelle as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Interesting read, much thanks to Beka for taking the time to research and write this.
So Martial is the bandwagon everyones on this week but Im not sure on this one, United’s fixtures are very tough after next week. Put it this way if he blanks next weekend all of a sudden he doesn’t look such a good move with ars, eve,CITY, palace to follow.
For my own team I could only really transfer him for Gommis which doesn’t seem worth the free transfer. (this very well may come back to bite me!)
Toby,
I agree! Gomis has only blanked two GWs after scoring 4 in a row, and people are climbing over each other to dump him for a teenager on a lucky streak…
Thankfully, I have my defensive nightmare (Ward, Shaw, Gomez) to keep me busy, so Gomis is safe for now on my team.
Funnily enough Saint I’ve lumped them in the ‘Be wary of’ section in this weeks fixtures article and wrote pretty much the exact same thing you did above.
Toby,
Great point of view.
I always transfer for at least 2GW potential player.
I will skip this Martial bandwagon for now.
I hope I won’t regret it like Mahrez in the beginning of the season.
Thanks everyone, I too have some work to do on my defence, Im looking at saving the ft this week and getting Damian out after Sunderland for some Chelsea cover
Hi everyone
At the risk of being a ‘johnny-come-lately’ and seeking all the credit ( :smiling: ) for this, I agree 100% on the Martial one. I mentioned last night on the Live Match Chat thread how iffy United’s fixtures were after Sunderland as well as mentioning how Gomis has the better fixtures including three at home in five and one trip to Villa.
Anyway. I agree with your point mate. Well said.
It’s how you say it 😉
Init
You should do an article on it 😉
They should do 2 articles. One about players who are very good players but from a fantasy point of view dont bring in the points so they get over looked. Like some players literally make a team and are the glue that holds it togetter yet because they dont score or assist much they dont get recognised in FPL.
And the other article should be about panic buying and eager buying. Which IMO is mainly fuelled by not only price changes but the fact people want something to do, a week is a long time to wait for the next games and people get bored and cant resist tweeking their team. Doing early tranfsers like that is a bad idea, im a culprit sometimes. But now im not so bad and realise that waiting is much more beneficial and I can do more research, check form in mid week and keep an eye on mid week injuries. But I think the main reason for these early transfers is people being bored and wanting to interact with the game somehow lol
I agree. People are panicking because of the price rises but I think it’s a false economy rushing in.
If you have to wait and get him in at say 8.5m and he is a season keeper he’s still a bargain.
If you sell him at some point. you get your 8.5m back.
Evening horse
The guy scored 2 yesterday and although I’m not saying he won’t score 3 versus Sunderland nor am I saying I won’t own him at some stage, rushing him in an hour after the game yesterday was panic buying.
Especially as I noticed some were doing it for -4 and others whilst they had as many as three other injury concerns to deal with,
Any number of other injuries could happen this week in the cup and united face a tricky run of games after next weekend.
Evening GP. Just wish people would take it easy.
My defence is looking stretched already with Ward, Gomez and Darmian. Plus Silva is a worry.
I am going to wait until after the league cup matches see if I get any more injuries.
Mind you I am second in my cash league this month. £50 for first place and it;s all down to this GW. May well yet get Martial for the Sunderland game and give him the armband. 😉
Schmeichel to Adrian for the rest of the season
have no West Ham defensive cover
current back line is
Schmeichel Rudd
Kolarov Naughton Francis Muniesa Oxford
2 FTs and 1.8mn in the bank
will use just 1 FT.
Sounds good?
nishant
Looks a good move mate.
thank you guys
will do it
Adrian seems already back to last season performance.
Good choice…
Ja, Adrian is very good. I ahd him most of last season, flying under the radar. Good kepper overlooked more often then not
Someone should do a little article on me, yanno with it being my 6th week top of the regulars league .
Funny guy
And highlight the fact that you triple captained Rooney a while ago?
And are at least half way through your bag of chips 😉
Hold that thought for a few weeks and call the article “What happened to Ant? He was top of the regulars league!” Lol
Is Pedro the best Chelsea choice at the moment? I really dont think Hazard is himself at the moment, just wondering what you guys thought of Pedro recently. Is he worth bringing in considering Chelsea are playing the magpies and I expect what 3 goals minimum right there. Same with Man U playing Sunderland
luke
I think so mate.
Monday madness.
So many transfer today.
I would like to wait till last minute but then I will short on money after Payet rise last night.
:sad-face:
I think a lot of people (myself included) have finally lost patience with quite a few players.
I’m thinking its time i used my WC now after 5 bad gws, i’m sure there must be others like me out there.
It’s so unreal.
Just Monday and we’ll have capital one cup in midweek.
How many total points you got there photek ?
I just got “normal” points for the last 2GW after play my WC just after GW4.
Hey Pho, I was in the same boat last week. Convinced myself to hold my WC then a few intelligent responses to my team here on FF247 and I pushed that button in a flash!
Had a solid week after my WC but it all came down to captaining Mahrez once again.
If you have 2 FT and still have 5 or 6 (or 11!) issues then go for it.
Pho, just for the balance this a little, I don’t think you teams that bad if you could upgrade Huth and defoe I think you have a decent enough team.
I always think you should play a wildcard when things are fairly settled, I mean when you can pick your 15 with a fair degree of confidence that they should consisantly all score you points. The way this season has gone nothings really settled down yet. I just think we will all know a lot more in three weeks or so the big questions for me are currently
Will Chelsea bounce back with some good defensive returns?
Is citys form going to continue?
Who are the Arsenal and United standout midfield players?
Who are the best budget defenders to see you though to xmas?
I say, give yourself time, I was 2.4m after week two now 550k with just two hits
Thanks for this Toby,
impressive comeback from one rating to the other but i’m not convinced a couple of changes will get me back on the road to where i want to be.
I’ve drifted over 100 pts behind in my main ML already, i need to stop the rot.
221 pts overall around the 2.1m mark, i’ve had enough of these crap weeks, i am gonna hit the button and try again.
I have the usual 1 FT Colriles, a whole world of pain in defense and mids and strikers that aren’t scoring any decent points (with exception to Mahrez)
I think its time mate
Nope everyone else has used their wildcard !
ichal
There will always be a ‘way’ to get a player in later in the week.
Thanks GP.
Will wait till last minute as usual.
is money an issue? I had a good game week and still have 5mill kikcing back in the bank. I can wait price changes or not, if you transfer now and get an injury that will suck and what would you panic transfer the injury out on friday night? Wait if you can, not only injuries to worry about but you can see whos form is still nailed on with these games
Indeed Luke.
Thanks a lot.
im waiting till after the games to decide exaclty who to bring in but at the moment probably going to be ayew>mata and chadli>pedro. Already got martial
Am tempted to ditch kun for wilson or ighalo but I can guarantee if I do that kun will score vs spurs. Although my gut says spurs will win agsint city, my gut must be drunk i guess. Lets see how spurs do tomorrow…
luke
For United, I think one player would do, Not ripping anyone to pieces just now and the fixtures are potentially going south.
I’d keep Aguero for a bit yet as well.
Yea your right about the fixtures, but I just think Man U are going to do very well much better then anyone expects. Im sure they are going to anhilate Sunderland and even do well in the hard fixtures. Man U have taken a right ribbing for so long now, its about time they had a spell of good luck. I can even see Man U being title contenders or possible winners. I dont expect City to keep their form
And im not even a Man U fan lol
luke
I’m no United fan either but my money is on them each-way this year so I hope you are right pal. Still on the evidence so far, I see more 1-0’s than 4-0’s
