Trends From The Top Gameweek 6

Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. Last week we saw a lot of our current “leaders” rise to the top by taking advantage of the new chips. What trends did we see this week? What are the leaders doing and will they continue to maintain their leads?

Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 6?
This week, 50% of top managers wisely selected Mahrez (22 points) as their captain pick. And while in hindsight this makes sense, and many of us wish we had done the same, two of these managers actually initially selected Silva over him and had Mahrez as their vice captain choice. 20% of our leaders selected Aguero (10 points) and Wilson (14 points) while the remaining manager chose Pelle (26 points but again this also a vice captain choice to Silva).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have used many if not all of their chips! 3 of the top 10 have exhausted ALL of their chips and the manager currently holding the 5th position also deployed their wildcard in gameweek 3.

What are some other interesting findings regarding the leaders?
– Only 3 of this week’s managers were in the Top Ten for gameweek 5.

– The best finish for any of these players was 61,276 (manager in 8th).

– Our current leader’s best finish was 374,049 and he has played for 8 seasons. (He sure gets bragging rights for this week but his reign will possibly be short-lived).

– 3 of the top players have no past season experience.

– I tend to be of the opinion that research, knowledge, analysis and a bit of luck help propel folks to the top. I also believe that top performers have a history of repeated success. Therefore, I would be most shocked if any of these players made it beyond the next few weeks in the FF top 10.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 6?
Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 10% had Hart, Butland, Mignolet, Boruc and de Gea.

Defenders: This week we saw 18 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (80%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Azpilicueta came in at 40% while Koscielny, Fonte and Smalling were the next most popular picks with 20% ownership followed by Cresswell, Darmian, Martin, Jagielka, Alderweireld, Sagna, Targett, Skrtel, Richards, Ivanovic, Bellerin, Francis, and Amavi each with 10%.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 14 different picks with Mahrez being the most popular with 100% ownership followed by Ayew, Barkley and Yaya Toure at 40%, Wijnaldum and Payet at 30% and Tadic, Mata and Pedro at 20%. Several others managed only 10% of the vote such as Coutinho, Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez, and Sako

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of a whopping 11 picks among the top managers which seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Pelle came in with 60% while Wilson was the next popular pick as he received 40%. Benteke, Vardy and Gomis were selected by 30% of the top managers with Aguero receiving just 20% and Lukaku, Martial, Defoe and Ighalo each receiving 10% a piece.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 6 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Mahrez and Pelle as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

I know that Martial has dominated conversation on here today for good reason. I just feel happy to have Mata and don’t feel the need to have Martial as well. Vote below: spot on or naive smile

Sterling to KdB for a 4PH?
Have to do it tonight else cannot afford it since KdB is going up tonight.
    Used my FT already.
    Think its best long term…

Foolishly I’m letting my heart rule my head where martial is concerned. Being a mcfc fan I can’t willingly cheer him on to score. I’ll pick defenders at a push but that’s about it!

Hope he’s the next Macheda, Januzaj etc..

Gday guys. Lost two of my head-to-head leagues by one point (49-50) on the weekend which was disappointing but reasonably pleased with my team overall. Need to loose Gomez this week and was thinking of going Gomez-Evans with one of my 2FT. Got 0.1 in the bank as well. Thoughts on team and possible transfers?

I may change it a bit. More money on the field etc.

Gathering team value for now either way…

Any particular plan you’re saving the cash for? I think Azpilicueta is almost guaranteed his spot and Zouma is a rotation risk. I’d swap Azp in. Also, double united attack and no Arsenal seems odd to me. You could go Mata to Ozil/Cazorla with WC or wait until after United play Sunderland and then go that route. I would usually say forwards seem too cheap, but not the way this early season has gone. Team looks pretty good.
