Trends From The Top Gameweek 8
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. It’s always fascinating to see the ways in which the leader board changes as well as the trends that evolve just over the course of a couple of weeks! Did you know for example that for GW 7, only two of the top 10 players had Aguero on their team? So… what trends did we see this week? What are the leaders doing and will they continue to maintain their leads?
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 8?
This week, 100% of the top ten managers selected… AGUERO! As many of you know, captaining him would have brought you 50 points but for the three top managers who decided to play their triple captain chip, kudos to you! At the time of writing only 33.9% of managers have been able to bring Aguero onboard as he carries a very heavy price tag of £13.2m but if this week’s performance is indicative of what’s to come, Aguero may be the one man up front to permanently invest your money in. (Next three matches are BOU (H), MUN (A) and NOR (H)).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have used many if not all of their chips! What’s even more fascinating, however, is the fact that Struthious D, currently holding position #2 has neither used a chip nor a wild card! His game play therefore may be more ‘credible’ and reflective of good managerial skills than others. (Struthious D has played for 10 seasons and his highest rank was 39,890). And, as the week’s progress, I do believe we will see the downfall of those who were eagerly ambitious to deploy and exhaust their chips within the first few weeks of the season.

What are some other interesting findings regarding the leaders?
– NONE of the top 10 for this week were in the top 10 last week! This may be the new norm with all the new additions and modifications to the game but it is indeed very interesting to me as last year’s leader, stayed at the top for the last 15-20 weeks.
– Our leader brought in 145 points (ranked 72nd for GW 8) and was savvy enough to use his triple captain chip. While I do suggest above that they deployment of all your chips so early in the season may not be wise, the use of the triple captain chip for this week was clearly most fortuitous.
– Our leader also ranked 1,505,612 in GW 2! (There’s hope for us all?)
– Our leader went from 896th to 1st in one GW.
– Our current leader finished 408,298 for the 2014/2015 season.

Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Hart and 10% had Boruc and Butland.
Defenders: This week we saw 19 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (70%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Azpilicueta came in at 40% while Alderweireld was the next most popular pick with 40% ownership followed by Bellerin with 30%, Dann, Souare and Darmian with 20% and Hangeland, Morgan, Clyne, Williams, Mertesacker, Cedric, Cresswell, Skrtel, Fonte, Gabriel, Walker and Reid each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 20 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Morrison, Walcott, Mata, Sinclair, Countinho, Silva, Navas, Bolasie, Wanyama, Hazard, Eriksen, Puncheon, Barkley, Matic and Ozil. Payet was the most popular pick with 90% ownership followed by Sanchez at 40%, De Bruyne, Ayew and Cabaye at 30%. On a personal note, this is the most variety I have ever seen for midfielders while doing this piece over the past 3 years. The fact that only one player has an ownership of 50% or higher suggests that the midfield is ever evolving and/or has yet to plant stable and reliable choices.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of a 8 picks among the top managers which again seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Aguero came in with 100% while Vardy was the next popular pick as he received 70%. Ighalo was selected by 40% of the top managers with Pelle receiving 20% and Jerome, Sakho, Lukaku and Martial each receiving 10% a piece.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 8 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Payet, Vardy and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
Other interesting facts:
– The average score for Gameweek 8 among the top 10 was an insane 123.5 points which is 68.5 points above average for the week. Yes, that’s 68.5 points above the average!
– England dominated the leader board once again as 50% of the top 10 were from England. The remaining three countries were Turkey (currently in 1st), Scotland, Northern Ireland, India and Indonesia.
– The average team value was £102 with £103.3 being the highest team value and £101.1 being the lowest value.
– 19 points separates 1st place from 10th.
– Best of luck in Gameweek 9 and a special birthday shout out to my #1 fan…
Happy Birthday Dad!

Who do you guys prefer bellerin or monreal??
Is there a website that shows detail stats of each player?
Bellerin is a far better player.
Bellerin is a far better player. Though Monreal plays on the same side of the pitch as Sdnchez so may get some lucky assists
http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/5826/Stages/12496/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2015-2016
You should be able to find them in there but the lack of a search function makes it a bit of a chew, I tend to use it more for the attacking side of the stats.
Hi all
Which player in defence that cost 4.2 – 4 mill that will get the most time on the pitch.
Thanks
Hi Stewy. I just had a look at the players in that price range and i’m not seeing anyone who has decent game time ahead. Maybe Browning for Everton but i think they have defenders coming back from injury. Yeah, there’s nobody really.
Danny Simpson? Only because they held of Norwich while he was on the pitch but after he left, they conceded.
Hangeland at a touch above at 4.3 or Browning from Everton but not until GW11 really. That’s all I can think of that play.
Cook 4.4, Huth 4.4, Morgan 4.4, O’Shea 4.3 are the nailed on ones.
Hangeland 4.3, Kelly 4.3 (until Delaney and Ward come back), Wollscheid maybe (ShawX is coming back, Muniesa might take his place back), Distin 4.3 (until Elphick is out)
Sorry yeah I agree on those too. I read that, as it looks like NIN did too, as 4.2 – 4.0 not 4.2 to 4.4
Guys I am putting together a bore off right now. If you have a question you want our “esteemed” panel to answer just throw it on here.
1) bellerin or monreal?
2) mane and/or pelle?
3) Walcott or not???
Thanks FDMS I will include something that should cover those.
Walcott
Hey Mito…
2 rotating gks or 1 full time and one cheapo?
And which gks for both options.
Also:
The Donald (Tump) or Hillary Clinton?
Thanks Sanchez.
Why have the likes of Hoolahan on the bench with a 3-4-3 when you can have Ighalo on the bench and play a 3-5-2?
Thanks CC, will have to Mitorize that sentence. #condense
Which teams to double up on?
Any Chelsea going forward?
Their supported team to win the treble or them winning FPL?
Best TV Show?
Top 4 at New Year and top 4 at the end of the season.
Giroud’s quiff, or Pelle’s grease-ball?
@NiN, have a bit more respect for my bore off article-ish. We don’t like silly questions! 😉
Can we trust Lukaku this season?
Newcastle have excellent fixtures? Free buffet or poison chalice?
For extra points: If Klopp gets Liverpool to play high energy full press football, which player will benefit the most?
Neverrrrrr.
Hazard to be included in the team this season or not?
Silva or de bruyne for long term?
1) Walcott conundrum
2) Mata or Martial
3. Lukaku or not
To Haz or not to Haz
Kate Abdo or Natalie Sawyer ??
@Brooky, maybe next time on that one as the last of the 3 Amigos are finishing up now. Too bad though, there was a perfect place for that question and there is a similar one to that in that section. I added a section called – Who is more attractive? –
1) Best Cheap Striker?
2) Mane or Payet
3) Sturridge or not?
1) Ighalo
2) Both
3) Not. Until he scores a hattrick.
Harry,
my 1 cent opinions …..
1) Ighalo
2) Payet
3) Not yet …
my thoughts Harry,
1) Vardy
2) Payet
3) wait and see how the new manager deploys him and the style of the teams play.
Scored 94 points last week but wished I had Silva or KDB in place of Sterling I would have jumped few more places !
Firstly what I want first thing is to get rid of Sterling and get KDB or Silva : Silva is probably my most favourite Mid in EPL and I really like him, but leaning on KDB because of his more goal threat long range hits and FK’s can get me more points. Basically my suggestion is someone on this site should seriously consider writing an article on KDB or Silva to help people like me especially with there next fixtures :maniac:
But there are other concerns too, I usually play 3-4-3 as a result my 5th Mid is always on bench, but Ighalo’s fixtures don’t seem too pretty also Gomis form is a major concern but would give him 2 more GW’s as he is against Stoke and Aston villa. Hope he repay’s me just like Sanchez and Aguero. :biggun:
Will need to downgrade Cresswell too as he hasn’t justified his price since I took him and would like to remove Francis too as Bournesmouth don’t like to keep CS it seems :bouncy-balls:
Now guys please give your point of views :no-mouth:
Damn it’s :manic:
Snookie, nice score last week mate – re Silva/KdB – KdB seems to be the hot property at the moment, hence the slight premium in price to Silva. I’d happily take either though – looking at your team it doesn’t seem you’re budget dependant, so myabe just buy KdB now for Sterling, before he gets too expensive.
No need to change your defence for a hit this week – I’d play Cresswell at Palace and then see how it all shapes up the week after.
Is KDB’s price going to increase before next GW now? :O
more worry about injuries …
Snookie – he’s already risen once and I’d be surprised if he didn’t rise by at least another .1mln, maybe .2mln by GW9. Unless he gets injured while on International duty of course.
Looks like Liverpool have made their mind up.
