Trends From The Top Gameweek 8
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. It’s always fascinating to see the ways in which the leader board changes as well as the trends that evolve just over the course of a couple of weeks! Did you know for example that for GW 7, only two of the top 10 players had Aguero on their team? So… what trends did we see this week? What are the leaders doing and will they continue to maintain their leads?
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 8?
This week, 100% of the top ten managers selected… AGUERO! As many of you know, captaining him would have brought you 50 points but for the three top managers who decided to play their triple captain chip, kudos to you! At the time of writing only 33.9% of managers have been able to bring Aguero onboard as he carries a very heavy price tag of £13.2m but if this week’s performance is indicative of what’s to come, Aguero may be the one man up front to permanently invest your money in. (Next three matches are BOU (H), MUN (A) and NOR (H)).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have used many if not all of their chips! What’s even more fascinating, however, is the fact that Struthious D, currently holding position #2 has neither used a chip nor a wild card! His game play therefore may be more ‘credible’ and reflective of good managerial skills than others. (Struthious D has played for 10 seasons and his highest rank was 39,890). And, as the week’s progress, I do believe we will see the downfall of those who were eagerly ambitious to deploy and exhaust their chips within the first few weeks of the season.

What are some other interesting findings regarding the leaders?
– NONE of the top 10 for this week were in the top 10 last week! This may be the new norm with all the new additions and modifications to the game but it is indeed very interesting to me as last year’s leader, stayed at the top for the last 15-20 weeks.
– Our leader brought in 145 points (ranked 72nd for GW 8) and was savvy enough to use his triple captain chip. While I do suggest above that they deployment of all your chips so early in the season may not be wise, the use of the triple captain chip for this week was clearly most fortuitous.
– Our leader also ranked 1,505,612 in GW 2! (There’s hope for us all?)
– Our leader went from 896th to 1st in one GW.
– Our current leader finished 408,298 for the 2014/2015 season.

Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Hart and 10% had Boruc and Butland.
Defenders: This week we saw 19 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (70%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Azpilicueta came in at 40% while Alderweireld was the next most popular pick with 40% ownership followed by Bellerin with 30%, Dann, Souare and Darmian with 20% and Hangeland, Morgan, Clyne, Williams, Mertesacker, Cedric, Cresswell, Skrtel, Fonte, Gabriel, Walker and Reid each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 20 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Morrison, Walcott, Mata, Sinclair, Countinho, Silva, Navas, Bolasie, Wanyama, Hazard, Eriksen, Puncheon, Barkley, Matic and Ozil. Payet was the most popular pick with 90% ownership followed by Sanchez at 40%, De Bruyne, Ayew and Cabaye at 30%. On a personal note, this is the most variety I have ever seen for midfielders while doing this piece over the past 3 years. The fact that only one player has an ownership of 50% or higher suggests that the midfield is ever evolving and/or has yet to plant stable and reliable choices.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of a 8 picks among the top managers which again seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Aguero came in with 100% while Vardy was the next popular pick as he received 70%. Ighalo was selected by 40% of the top managers with Pelle receiving 20% and Jerome, Sakho, Lukaku and Martial each receiving 10% a piece.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 8 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Payet, Vardy and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
Other interesting facts:
– The average score for Gameweek 8 among the top 10 was an insane 123.5 points which is 68.5 points above average for the week. Yes, that’s 68.5 points above the average!
– England dominated the leader board once again as 50% of the top 10 were from England. The remaining three countries were Turkey (currently in 1st), Scotland, Northern Ireland, India and Indonesia.
– The average team value was £102 with £103.3 being the highest team value and £101.1 being the lowest value.
– 19 points separates 1st place from 10th.
– Best of luck in Gameweek 9 and a special birthday shout out to my #1 fan…
Happy Birthday Dad!

Who is the best replacement of Sagna?
The budget is 5.8M only, as I need to keep spare money to upgrade Pedro > KDB.
Mert looks like the value pick?
How about the player who replaced him…..zabaleta!
I dont want to get in all this rotation crisis honestly. Kola seems like a confident pick, but 6.2M if too much.
Hey The B I would say Monreal or Bertrand in that order .
Gabriel!! £4.9! He won’t be losing his place when the boss comes back!
Asked the question about Gabriel earlier today & general opinion was that he wasn’t nailed on
I think him and kos will be the preferred pairing! If none of my players get injured over the break I will be bringing in gab for sagna!
Exactly what I was planning to do
Where is Ant these days? Is he still first on the Regulars league?
Horse’s GW 2 team has replaced him, I’m not sure if I feel better about that or worse
I’ve still seen Ant on the boards recently though.
My GW2 is beating my original team by about 20 points. I am not taking it well.
I wouldn’t be able to put up with that nonsense, I’d have to stitch my GW 2 team up until my main team overtook it.
I did in MLS and it didn’t work. Thought I was doing a couple of iffy moves to not make it so obvious that I didn’t want the site team to beat mine.
Ant is now 18th in the regulars league.
And with no chips left :hippo:
Poor Ant! Has gone quieter though so no bad thing
Love that league actually, good to see all the recognisable names in one place as opposed to the main one being peppered with those who aren’t as obvious.
I’ll put the salt & vinegar away then CC. :big-lol:
Who is winning that league?
Give it a few GW’s, Mito, and i’ll let you know 😉 :hippo:
Only a few GWs ago Ant was demanding an article in his honor on this site for holding onto the first spot for 4 straight GWs.
Massive LOL. Even I am above him now. B)
Where was my invite?
Mitro, Elle is doing the league. Apparently by regulars he means people he steals from.
I think I’m going crazy that’s the second time in two hours that a post has changed! I thought you called me nitro!
The same happened with a post Init did earlier
I need some sleep!!
Mitro it was self-serve. You had to e-mail Elle for the code. You were probably having babies at the time. It’s stil open you just need to e-mail him. No idea what e-mail to use though
You did well to spot mine, it was up for about 20 seconds before I altered it from Blue Moon to CC! Got confused as to the capo rota so figured I’d best swap it as that lot don’t take much confusing at the best of times
Mitro, its elleffcee@fantasyfootball247.co.uk
Great league for the Regs Init if you look up you will find me in 2nd place you won’t recognise the name. 😉
Dr Shipman?
What do you guys think about this team?
I know it’s a bit too heavy but if I could choose one of silva or Kdb later on, then I can upgrade the def and the 3rd striker. What do you guys think? Practical or not?
It could either be payet and rantie or pelle and Wanyama
I’d only take one from KDB and Silva and spread some change into those defenders as lots of them look iffy to me.
Drop Silva for Awey upgrade def & Fwd
FDMS – This squad selection is inviting a lot of future transfers. There are three current non starters there and a few questionable ones too. How about losing one of Payet/Mahrez and sorting the defence out, as well as getting at least a playing third striker?
@FDMS
I like the idea of going 352 with some big hitters as there are a lot of strong midield options.
The downsides to your team are if Speroni comes back you have no goalie.
You also have a Palace defender and they aren’t great at the back.
Simpson??
Rantie?? Not convinced by him 😉
I think if you downgrade Silva to say Mane you can afford Ighalo as a kind of benchable striker or even Ayoze if you are feeling brave.
instead of McC I would splash out on Butland who is doing well and Shawcross is due back soonish.
Maybe Francis instead of Simpson.
Alternatively if you want a stronger defence Cabaye might be worth a punt.
Yo…
Great gw for most, well done guys n Girls ????
I Got the fantasy footie buzz back after scoring 107 yippiiee…!
So back to fine tuning my team..
My FT gets me straight swap Pelle in for Martial
(Not sure im ready to dump the teenager just yet)
But Man U didnt look good vs Arsenal & im worried?
Pelle looks good with him & Mane in red hot form….. Mmm!
Other options would be to dump Mata…
(i only bought him in last week to replace Yaya)
Thinking Silva or KDB but it would req hits.
So..
Do i keep martial ?
Is Pelle worth it?
Who would you get Silva or KDB?
I keep Martial, Pelle is still spelled with a double L and not just one, so don’t get too excited. Give Mata one more chance unless you are needing to sell for KDB or Silva. Personally I prefer KDB, but I think Silva is the key to City. So Silva will get his, but if KDB keeps scoring Silva won’t keep up.
Bigpopz, my 1 regret when doing my WC team was losing Pelle as he’d been doing great for me. Just as well really as the rest weren’t! It was ultimately justified by the others incoming but I’ll certainly be looking at bringing him back ASAP. Think it’s Bournemouth at home in maybe GW11 followed by Sunderland so I had him marked down as OK to lose until then. Obviously wasn’t expecting him to do that to Chelsea given his away form but either way yeah I’d take him for Martial if I was you.
KDB in answer to the other question.
Took the grease ball in for a hit last night so’z i did. Hoping he can keep his form over the next eight games or so.
Yep, i like Pelle > Martial for the next few. Hard to look past De Bruyne’s form, too. Didn’t think he’d kick off this quick, but he has.
Popz, screenshot this convo. NiN and Init say Pelle, I say Martial.
Put it on the board!!
:satansmoking:
Pelle
A man of conviction Mito, I like it. I did Martial to Pelle due to the price changes but it’s a very close one I think. As Martial stopped scoring after I brought him in I can say with all likelihood that he will start again now and Pelle will stop instead :cuss:
We’re going to have some serious issues if that happens mate. Serious bloody issues
Hehe. What was your early hit NIN?
Pedro&Wilson out, Tadic&Pelle in. Between form, funds and fixtures i think the Pedro switch was worth it. Wilson was a must do for obvious reasons.
Pelle
Stick for now, although Pelle faces LEI next at home, and he absolutely shits on all the visitors with ease. Could go either way, but Id keep faith in Martial.
pelle worth it and i have KDB but the engineer of all man.city coverage is silva..haha..hope it will help you..??
*attacking
this is my squad
Begovic Rudd
Kolarov Naughton Muniesa Francis Oxford
Sanchez KDB Payet Mahrez Westwood
Aguero Gomis Vardy
1 FT and 1.1mn in the bank
my defence is shit obviously. should I transfer someone now with FT? whom and for whom?
Gomis should go?
HELP GUYS. CHEERS
I think you should hold your transfer for after the international matches as your team doesn’t need major surgery, then probably take out muniesa for a decent def as he lost his spot now or if you really want gomis out then pelle is your answer.
How does this look?
Begovic > Myhill
You need Payet in there.
Yeah I have Payet and Hoolahan instead of Silva and Wanyama at the mo.
I don’t like West Brom fixtures. There will be a new manager at Sundetland so they will be out to impress. Then they face Norwich and Leicester who are very attacking. After that it’s most of the big clubs
Perfect screenshot
Anything to help lol
Smash, it is either what you have or Payet and Vardy in for Ighalo and Silva. The extra change could help the defence if needed. Not opposed to the screenshot team though. I don’t mind putting eggs even a ton of them in the City attacking basket.
