Trends From The Top Gameweek 8
Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. It’s always fascinating to see the ways in which the leader board changes as well as the trends that evolve just over the course of a couple of weeks! Did you know for example that for GW 7, only two of the top 10 players had Aguero on their team? So… what trends did we see this week? What are the leaders doing and will they continue to maintain their leads?
Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 8?
This week, 100% of the top ten managers selected… AGUERO! As many of you know, captaining him would have brought you 50 points but for the three top managers who decided to play their triple captain chip, kudos to you! At the time of writing only 33.9% of managers have been able to bring Aguero onboard as he carries a very heavy price tag of £13.2m but if this week’s performance is indicative of what’s to come, Aguero may be the one man up front to permanently invest your money in. (Next three matches are BOU (H), MUN (A) and NOR (H)).

What recent trend have most of the top managers been deploying?
In researching this week’s leaders, it was interesting to see that once again, most managers have used many if not all of their chips! What’s even more fascinating, however, is the fact that Struthious D, currently holding position #2 has neither used a chip nor a wild card! His game play therefore may be more ‘credible’ and reflective of good managerial skills than others. (Struthious D has played for 10 seasons and his highest rank was 39,890). And, as the week’s progress, I do believe we will see the downfall of those who were eagerly ambitious to deploy and exhaust their chips within the first few weeks of the season.

What are some other interesting findings regarding the leaders?
– NONE of the top 10 for this week were in the top 10 last week! This may be the new norm with all the new additions and modifications to the game but it is indeed very interesting to me as last year’s leader, stayed at the top for the last 15-20 weeks.
– Our leader brought in 145 points (ranked 72nd for GW 8) and was savvy enough to use his triple captain chip. While I do suggest above that they deployment of all your chips so early in the season may not be wise, the use of the triple captain chip for this week was clearly most fortuitous.
– Our leader also ranked 1,505,612 in GW 2! (There’s hope for us all?)
– Our leader went from 896th to 1st in one GW.
– Our current leader finished 408,298 for the 2014/2015 season.

Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 50% of the top managers selected Cech while 20% had Hart and 10% had Boruc and Butland.
Defenders: This week we saw 19 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Kolarov (70%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of over 50%. Azpilicueta came in at 40% while Alderweireld was the next most popular pick with 40% ownership followed by Bellerin with 30%, Dann, Souare and Darmian with 20% and Hangeland, Morgan, Clyne, Williams, Mertesacker, Cedric, Cresswell, Skrtel, Fonte, Gabriel, Walker and Reid each with 10%.
Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 20 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Morrison, Walcott, Mata, Sinclair, Countinho, Silva, Navas, Bolasie, Wanyama, Hazard, Eriksen, Puncheon, Barkley, Matic and Ozil. Payet was the most popular pick with 90% ownership followed by Sanchez at 40%, De Bruyne, Ayew and Cabaye at 30%. On a personal note, this is the most variety I have ever seen for midfielders while doing this piece over the past 3 years. The fact that only one player has an ownership of 50% or higher suggests that the midfield is ever evolving and/or has yet to plant stable and reliable choices.
Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of a 8 picks among the top managers which again seems to indicate that such spots are not yet solidified. Aguero came in with 100% while Vardy was the next popular pick as he received 70%. Ighalo was selected by 40% of the top managers with Pelle receiving 20% and Jerome, Sakho, Lukaku and Martial each receiving 10% a piece.
In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 8 were not many. They were Cech, Kolarov, Payet, Vardy and Aguero as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Other interesting facts:
Other interesting facts:
– The average score for Gameweek 8 among the top 10 was an insane 123.5 points which is 68.5 points above average for the week. Yes, that’s 68.5 points above the average!
– England dominated the leader board once again as 50% of the top 10 were from England. The remaining three countries were Turkey (currently in 1st), Scotland, Northern Ireland, India and Indonesia.
– The average team value was £102 with £103.3 being the highest team value and £101.1 being the lowest value.
– 19 points separates 1st place from 10th.
– Best of luck in Gameweek 9 and a special birthday shout out to my #1 fan…
Happy Birthday Dad!

Walcott (rotation or nailed?) or payet (inform but lucky?) or mane (double up on Southampton?)as your 4th mid in a wc team?
Already have sanchez and pelle
Walcott for me, even with the risky game-time.
Actually no reason not to have Walcott AND Payet. Someone else should make way.
My strategy over the next 3 GWs is to get wally back into my team! It is a risk but he is fantasy gold!!
P.S payet is a good move
Payet, for me.
Payet, for me.
Why does this keep happening to me?
I think Init is changing his name and grav and then rewriting your posts to mess with you…
Trolled by a Rooster :noshake:
I really don’t have that sort of time or inclination! You should get a ‘you’ve already said that’ thing if you repeat a comment. I do when the signals sketchy and I press it twice.
Yeah sometimes that does happen. I get a popup about Duplicate Comments or something like that. Still, cant remember the last day that this double post malarkey didn’t happen. It’s no big deal of course, just odd as i don’t see it happening to anyone else
Having said that, i do need a new mouse. Doubt that has anything to do with it though to be fair.
Payet for me. I’m a huge fan of Mane ever since he joined the premier league and he has really grown into the heart of southamptons attacking mid field. That being said, Payet can’t stop putting points on the board. I might drop Payet for Mane if Payets points dry up and if Mane starts popping a goal assist a game (which he is capable of). Till then, Payet for me. Especially when you’ve got Southampton attack covered with Pelle.
You could make a reasonable case for any of those really. I didn’t see the first half on Sunday but apparently he was great and I’ve seen some saying he’s growing into that role more now which is only natural given a run at it. Payet has looked classy every time I’ve seen him and I’ve had that confirmed in the games I didn’t see too by others so I don’t think that his returns are down to luck at all. Mane. Bloody Mane. I had him at the start and expected big things. Soooo glad he’s finally delivering. You know, since I sold him…
Wally needs a strong ish 5th to accompany him along the rotation road. I’d probably take Mane right now with their upcoming games.
I’d actually be very happy if Walcott either played or he didn’t, even if it was just half the time. The problem is him coming on in the 75th minute and getting 1 point, keeping your strongish 5th on the bench.
He’s starting for now though so he’s in for the time being
Evening all!
Ruddy (Mignolet)
Cedric Huth Kolarov (PvA & Mings)
Payet Ritchie Ozil Hazard (Sinclair)
Kun Martial Vardy
Obviously my two bench defenders are my main concerns, I’m looking at getting Wollscheid in for Mings as he wont be playing again any time soon. I know PvA isn’t much use even when he is playing but I think getting non-playing players out first is my best bet. On current form Stoke has 3 decent fixtures coming up and having been at the heart of their first CS this season I can’t see him losing his starting spot.
Anything I’m missing lads that would be more beneficial?
That’s a different midfield Rambo but I like it apart from Hazard. I understand wanting to hold onto him until he does a Sanchez or Aguero, but unlike those two he hasn’t really looked like doing much all season. I’d get shot of him for any of several mids as a priority over sorting out your bench, as that’s first and foremost where the points come from.
It’s tough calling a Stoke defender tbh, and though Wollscheid has started the last couple will he keep on playing? A good price if he does though.
I think Mings, PvA and Huth all want changing eventually, in that order, but after Hazard – that’s just what I’d do mate.
Cheers CC, midfield have shown form in the last 3 weeks, Hazard has one last chance at home vs Villa for me! Now that you mention that regards Stoke and at best being 6 points if even, Pelle in for Martial has sprung to mind… Form good fixtures and a team that are flying. Would cover getting Sanchez in for Hazard next week too with .5m being ITB. More thoughts will be had but I appreciate your opinion as its got me re-thinking mate!
Yeah I went Martial to Pelle. Still think Martial is a great pick though – could easily have scored against Arsenal.
Rambo, i’ll hold onto hazard..i like that his ownership is falling by the day.would make a great differential once he starts firing..then he’d be very difficult to adjust into the team like Sanchez in current scenario
And i know that he’s going to score big now..i just know..remember last season!!!
I’d probably WC it, to be honest. Sanchez&De Bruyne/Silva would be first in, for me.
Been holding off and holding off NIN! Sanchez will be in next week regardless, WC depends on how this lot get on next weekend. Thoughts on Pelle in for Martial from a United fan?
It’s a close one, that. In all honesty, i’m struggling to make any sort of prediction for the United/Everton game. Could be a 3-3, could be a boring 0-0. Safe to say Southampton/Leicester game will have goals, though. Once it’s not for a hit then it should be okay, or at least break even. If a hit is involved then some luck will be needed for an instant return.
No still have my FT, will look into it more after IB. Cheers for your insight!
Bit of a random question and I’m not to sure if we have discussed this before! But could we inflate price rises and fails?
I.e do a million transfers and then activate the WC to cancel the huge hit , could it work?
Asking for a friend
It could work, yes, but it would take a massive amount of effort just to make a tiny bit of profit so probably a waste of time in the end.
Your probably right!! My thumbs would be sore from all that clicking but if we got the whole site involved and shared the load then we could do it!!
No mate doesn’t work like that. Be funny if you then forgot to hit the WC button though
What happens if you set up multiple accounts? Probably would need around a few thousand email addresses though?
That’s the only way to fudge it. A group of say a few thousand managers with a couple of hundred accounts each, going for the same targets each week could well skew it. It was done in FMLS last season but that game is much smaller, with only about 30k players per season, as opposed to 3.5m in FPL.
You would just be in negative points!!! Lol
Or we could all agree to dump someone on the same day. That market would instantly collapse 😉
I like it!! How many times have we needed that extra 0.1m? It winds me up when I see a player going up on a Sunday night!! I have to that transfer just in case!!
We could control the FPL like the stock market!!
Is there some skulduggery a foot 😉
You in??
The game is a foot I’m in

This gives us 67 teams ( if i can find out about the rogue team ). Ideas on how to get the number to 64 for the cup comp please.
Oops!! Sorry mate
Mitro, sorry for what ?
Great effort Elle some really good players in there , they all make FF247 a pleasure to be on cheers for this.
Cheers Elle! If you haven’t done so would you mind posting it on the FPL site too in the Regulars forum section. Appreciate it
As for losing 3, well you, NZ and GP have your hands full with the community team so how about you lot 😉
NO. I ain’t writing this lot out again. :p
Good stuff. I tried to Copy & Paste the list into the league forum itself but it’s to big. That’s what she said :hippo:
:big-lol:
Reminds me of the time I tried using MyPenis as a password for something. I was informed it was too short :-/
Surely you can set the cup comp to only allow the top 64 to take part, its a bit crappy on the bottom three but setting it up outside the official game would be a bit of a chew on.
Horse does have 2 teams, so 1 of them could go if he wouldn’t mind. If i don’t find out who owns the rogue team thats out. I’m down to 65. Oh hang on a mo, dump Calvin in the bin, bingo 64.
That would give the rest of you a chance I suppose 😉 Should be Horse’s second team that goes, regardless of the fact that it happens to be doing really well. We could all make a second team otherwise and say use that instead.
Hi Elle,
Yes I am more than happy to drop Foal FC out of the cup.
It wouldn’t be fair for me to have 2 teams in the same competition.
I only put them in the regulars league as they weren’t in any minileagues.
Cheers Horse. A true gentleman.
Maybe make a smaller Cup? Is that even possible? I have no idea. As for the rogue team, just bin it if the manager is unknown. Feels a bit Gestapo but it is a Reg’s league at the end of the day.
My regular name is Puple Bee (no thinking behind it) but I changed it to kuntastic pellay just for the bants 😉
It will be toughelleffcee.
Bottom 3 at whatever the cut off date is don’t make the cup? Simples.
Probably just this. Or perhaps the top 64 scores the GW before the cup starts so that everyone has an equal chance of getting in. Either way not fussed.
Oh wow, I just realised I never entered the regular league only the H2H, ah don’t worry, I’m not going to cause you any more headaches Elleffcee, your trying to get rid of teams not add them.haha
Nah, get yourself in there Gumby. Cups just a bit of fun. Leagues for the season. Same goes for anyone else who posts regularly who missed this boat and is wondering what the heck it is. Was posted mainly in the summer so guessing a fair few missed it. I can name at least 20 now who aren’t on that list and that’s without thinking.
Yeah I noticed Red and Duthers aren’t there. Whenever we see a regular that’s absent we should mention it to them.
Thanks Init, As great as it would be, It could be hard to try and add all the extra people in (including myself). Happy to be in if its no trouble for anyone But then again I thought not Captaining Aguero this week would cause me no trouble…….wow what a mistake.haha
RedVT did enter then pulled the plug. He didn’t want his mini league rivals seeing this sites leagues when they looked at his team. He don’t want them getting our help like he does. :shake:
No probs Gums, mail me. Elleffcee@fantastfootball247.co.uk
Make sure you tell me your user name on here, so i know who you are. Its old age mate.
Oops ! Its elleffcee@fantasyfootball247.co.uk
Oh dear!
Solid gold the advice round here boss. Must be, he keeps winning his league.
Elle, CC is right. This needs more air time and the chance for more people to see / notice it. It did go under the radar a bit.
Can you do me a favour tomorrow and re-post the whole list but also include on it an invite along with your (correct) e-mail address please? I’ll make it a sticky post and add it to Hot Comments too.
Will send an email now to the correct address 😛 not your secret FPL site 😉 Will include my username, National insurance number, date of birth (just in case you want to send me cake) etc. Thanks guys. yes adding it to the hot comments like the community league (occasionally 😛 ) does would be a good idea. haha just playing…. But with the week off for international I wouldn’t be surprised if quite a few people don’t check the site until the Thursday/Friday before GW9…. That could hinder
Alot of chat about Wally.. is anyone else scheming a way to get Sturridge in?
Not with Aguero taking up 1 space and Pelle/Martial currently doing well enough to take up my other forward slot. If they drop in form and Sturridge really picks it up I’ll look at it, but it will be tough raising the funds.
At that price, he’d have to come in for Aguero. That’s not a goer, no matter how well Sturridge is playing 😉
Will see how ings and sturridge partnership goes
As per now, im happy with pelle kum amd vardy
Cheers – and agreed I guess. I’m just always looking for the deferential to steal a march on rivals in my private leagues.
Klopp effect could be interesting – I might hold on to Gomez for another couple weeks and see what happens
Hi all, how are thing, got 105 last week that was really good because it was my first ton
Well in Stewy. Just waiting around for the next couple of weeks until FPL starts again really *tumbleweed
Congratz stewy
Nice work. I haven’t hit the ton mark since the Suarez double week a couple of seasons ago. What a huge GW that was.
