UEFA Champions League fantasy football

Hello everyone and welcome to UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football 2018/19. Just when you are starting to get the hang of what names you should be targeting in FPL we hit you with another fantasy game. On a site where no fantasy game, well almost no fantasy game, is out of bounds, we ask that you give Fantasy Champions League a go also. For those of us that have participated in the past, it is always something we usually look forward to. I mean who doesn’t enjoy fighting with the UEFA site to make a substitution, that will actually save on time before the next fixture starts? If you’ve given it a go in the past there are no real differences this time besides the booster they have added this time – the limitless wildcard! Which we will explain shortly. For those who have never played let us give you a quick rundown of the rules and things to watch for as you embark on yet another frustrating fantasy experience. And we don’t just mean in terms of results…

You can access the game here – Fantasy Champions League

Our official FF247 league code is TMILEI3FTY

The Rules
As far as the rules go, you can access them here via – THIS LINK but let us give you a quick rundown of what they are.

    • SCORING
The scoring itself is pretty much as per FPL. The only real differences that we would notice is that there are no bonus points and we will not get an assist if our player wins a penalty that is scored, but the player will get 2 points for winning said penalty no matter if it results in a goal or not.
    • FORMAT
The format is a bit like the World Cup fantasy. For those who aren’t familiar with this it basically means a tad more planning as you can sub players in before they have played to replace those that already have. A quick example would be to pick a Man United guy, let’s call him Paul, for arguments sake. And maybe a Liverpool guy, let’s call him Sadio. Given as Paul plays on Day 1 you can put him in your X1 and see how he does, whilst placing Sadio on your bench. If you like what you see from Paul then you can leave him in the team. If he has a stinker (likely) then you can simply activate manual subs and bring Sadio in to replace him for his later game. Simples, really. Don’t pick Paul 😉
    • MANUAL SUBS / AUTO SUBS
If you activate a manual sub then your right to auto subs (as per FPL) disappears. You have the option to do either. Manual subs is your best bet we feel as you control who comes in and you get 4 more shots at getting it right, basically.
    • CAPTAIN
The Captain Armband works in much the same way as fantasy world cup and not FPL. You may change your captain after each round (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.
    • TRANSFERS
      Before the game begins: UNLIMITED
      Matchday 1–6: 2 per matchday
Between matchday 6 and round of 16 1st leg: Unlimited
Before round of 16 2nd leg: 3 transfers
      Before quarter-final 1st leg: 5 transfers
      Before quarter-final 2nd leg: 3 transfers
      Before semi-final 1st leg: 5 transfers
      Before semi-final 2nd leg: 3 transfers
      Before final: 5 transfers

Be aware of this little nugget “Only one free transfer can be carried forward between matchdays. A user can make a maximum of 3 free transfers during the group stages. No free transfers can be carried forward in the knockout stage.”

So basically it’s like FPL in terms of being able to carry 1 transfer over. However once we reach the knockout stage we will not have the option of carrying a free transfer with us, you don’t use it, you lose it.

    • Deadlines
Deadlines are subject to change and will be at the time of kick-off of the first match of the matchday. So unlike FPL you do get to see the line-ups in advance and adjust accordingly. Just be aware that some GW’s will kick off early due to the Russian games. It’s a trap many if not all get caught by at some stage or another.

Wildcard
You get 1 regular wildcard and you can play it anytime you like prior to the start of a round. It acts the same way it does in fpl.

Limitless Wildcard
This is a different type of wildcard here, one that many will find very appealing. It is very similar to the “Free Hit” chip we have in FPL. However, there is one major difference… “The Limitless Wildcard enables the user to create a team without any budget restrictions and affords them unlimited transfers for one matchday.” So for one matchday you can afford whatever team you like. You do still have to meet the criteria for players from one team and formations and all that, but there is no budget, so spend away. Once the matchday is over, just like the free hit chip, our teams revert back.

UEFA Champions League fantasy football Tracker
This tracker has placed each team in the place that oddsmakers are expecting them to finish in said group. While it won’t hold true in every group, this should at least give you a better idea of what players to target. Also, the teams on the left all play on the same exact days through the group stages. This of course means that the teams on the right do the same. For those of you who want to use your manual subs, this tracker should help you in picking out players from both days of a matchday (the equivalent of a gameweek) so you have cover for any players who don’t perform well.

UEFA Champions League Set Piece Takers List
We did our best, but understand that some of these teams are very hard to get decent info on. Didn’t bother guessing on two of them in certain categories because we really couldn’t get an idea. Nevertheless, here is our effort to give you an idea on who is likely to take charge on set pieces for each team.

So that’s the basics, in as much of a small nutshell as we could manage, without boring the pants off you. If you have any further questions or queries or if there are any clarifications you need then as always please feel to ask below.

Please feel free to post any RMT’s on the issue or indeed as ever, especially as we’ve slightly interrupted the FPL weekend for this, just carrying on talking about that!

Hard to get players I really want all over the park…

Looks good! Porto have such an easy group that three of them is almost essential! Haven’t looked much into it yet, just building my own side as we speak!

Here’s my go! Put Ronaldo in after yesterday’s performance smile

      Zed Leppelin says:

There’s such a wealth of options for the 3 striker spots!! Hard to pick really, Ronaldo, Lewa, Messi, Suarez, Aguero, Mbappe….

      • MadHatter says:

        Yup.
Am I right in thinking I can transfer Suarez to Lewi after the first game as that would be the plan for me?
Think D. Pereira will play? I need to research the fringe players a bit more

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I’m still in the middle of my research, I have no idea to be honest! There are at least two Pereira’s at Porto, A. Pereira has scored recently but I have no idea whether he’s the same guy as this D. Pereira… A. Pereira is a striker though… Then there’s that def M Pereira… He could easily turn into Brahimi though he I think will play and is 5.0m as well!

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Lewa is 11m whereas Suarez is 10.5m so you need to keep 0.5m in the bank for that!

        • MadHatter says:

          Yeah I’ve saved that

        • inittowinit says:

Hatters, Tuesday and Wednesday as a pair are essentially GW1 so you can bring him in using a transfer after Wednesday in preparation for the next set of games but not inbetween this Tuesday and Wednesday. If you had him (or whoever) on the bench on Tuesday and he plays on Wednesday then you can bring him in for someone who played on Tuesday.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah, can’t make that swap in the middle of the Gameweek, so why not just start with Lewa who has a good fixture in GW1?

        • MadHatter says:

Benfica away vs PSV at home?
I’ll go with Suarez for now I think, then swap to Lewa

        • Zed Leppelin says:

          Yeah that could/should work!

      Zed Leppelin says:

So yeah Porto have three Pereiras smile D. Pereira is a defensive mid who hasn’t played a lot recently, I will switch him to Brahimi I think!

      • DMC says:

Danilo Pereira is in did a dmc that has just recently come out of a long spell on the sidelines from the injury that had him miss the WC. Capable of the odd corner kick goal but still a defensive mid.
André Pereira is indeed a forward. He’s from their youth academy and has just joined this season. He was playing because Marega was being punished for trying to force a move to West Ham (go figure?) but he has now been reintegrated so expect limited minutes if any from the youngster. If he appears on a first XI before deadline though feel free to have a punt. He has goals in him.
Maxi Pereira is a right back and his best years are long gone. Avoid.
Ricardo Pereira is your man but he has been sold to Leicester!!
Phew, this almost allows a My Rules team based on “Only Pereiras”! smile

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Haha, cheers for your inside knowledge!! You reckon Brahimi is a good bet?

        • DMC says:

Brahimi is by far their most talented player and surely offers value fantasy wise. I haven’t checked his price but something around 7.0 would make him someone to consider yes.

        • DMC says:

Yeah, just checked, he is exactly 7.0. I’d need to check other players prices and team balance etc as 7.0 is obviously a lot in this game but yeah he looks to grant you the points you need for that price. Also, if you are looking to double up in defense (Telles is a no brainer) do consider Militão instead of Felipe. He’s 4.5 and nailed. He has just arrived and soon he displaced youngster Diogo Leite so it’s his spot now. In fact, I think he’s a show in mine with that price.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Cheers! Will change Felipe to him, gets me a very valuable 0.5m!

Why do you guys have Nacho? He might play if the gaffer wants to rotate him in, but he is not a regular starter for Madrid.

      Usual Starters
Marcelo – great attacking player, defensively he is Alberto Moreno. But he gets forward a lot.

Varane – best defender on the team, but possibly the least likely to get attacking returns.

Ramos – first choice penalty taker, will take some free kicks and a big threat from corners and indirect free kicks.

Carvajal – similar to Marcelo, not as talented going forward but better defensively. He does get returns though.

Nacho fills in for any of them, but not a starter.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Cheers Mito, just a first draft!! Will ship him now! I am really tempted by a double up on Telles/Felipe, both capable of attacking returns in a very easy group, and they are not too expensive, 5.5m and 5.0m respectively…

I wouldn’t have Kurzawa. Not travelling with the team from what I have read, guessing some kind of injury. He hasn’t played much this season, plus when he is fit Bernat will probably be rotated with him and it is hard to tell which one plays which.

Modric has really looked sub-par so far. Yesterday he was substituted with Madrid needing a goal. Asensio from the Madrid mids is the best option as he plays highest up the pitch and usually has a decent shot or two at goal per game, plus in UCL you get credit for getting pens and Asensio has already drawn 3 this season.
I understand why you have that front 3, but I really don’t like their fixtures for Matchday 1. Madrid are no longer and up and down team, not saying they win vs Roma, but you expect that game to be tight, not a 3-2 game. Liverpool don’t concede goals at home and going to Schalke is not an easy task.

    Zed Leppelin says:

Liverpool play Crvena Zvezda twice in a row in GWs 3&4… (Or are the rounds or whatever in CL)… They’re gonna beat them 7-0 at home and 0-4 away 😆 Just remember how they did last season against one of these teams that should not really even be in the CL (instead of teams like Chelsea for instance)… Gotta have Mane or Salah and Firmo probably for those two!! 😉

    FC Sanchez says:

Nice work, Init + Mito. Will defo be using the Set Piece Takers List when I sit down and put a squad together later this evening. Cheers for that! And yes let’s hope for some usual early CL cricket scores (tho I’ve been burned by the likes of Bayern a few times in the past)!! And little rotation in those ‘easier’ games! That would be chuvly (I’m looking at you City + Liverpool).
