World Cup Quarter Finals Live Match Chat
Welcome to World Cup Quarter Finals Live Match Chat. And then there were eight. Well, England plus another seven 😉 Some surprises along the way mixed with some familiar names progressing sees us arrive at the quarter-final stage with everything to play for. Like any tournament the continued presence of the home nation is generally seen as a positive, except by Spain of course who have already departed for the more familiar surroundings of Costa Blanca. We have also waved goodbye to Messi and Ronaldo and a new superstar has been born in Mbappe.
Sadly we said farewell to the gallant Japanese but with England facing Sweden, expectations continue to reach epic proportions. It’s coming home. Isn’t it?! Ah c’mon, let us dream!
We have the next two days off until we reconvene on Friday, so plenty of time to think over plans and transfers. Is it time to play a Chip or have they been utilised/wasted already?!
From a fantasy point of view we have 3 free transfers for this round and we can now own a maximum of five players from any one team.
THE GAMES IN FULL

A couple of days and a bit off and 3 transfers to burn. Or maybe even a Wildcard. Stick your teams and questions up and I’m sure you’ll get some answers.
Tough. Wild Card or not???
This is the trouble with these comps now. We are used to playing a WC and making 12 changes or so. You probably do need only 4 or 5, perhaps less. And it’d be mainly to plump the bench options outside of the obvious big guys who’ve left. I’d probably stick it out until the semis.
You are right. At least we have a couple of days for tinkering.
Stick
Yes, apart from Costa and Isco I need to replace Badelj and Boyta. That is -4 with the WC and BB left for the semis.
Congratulations England.Happy to see you get through.
Emotions from diferent parts of the world :smiling:
Congrats to England & my English friends. Happy for Gareth too, maybe the media will stop hassling him about THAT penalty. Whatever happens now doesn’t matter, remember the number of caps (or lack thereof) at the start of the WC and rejoice. You might not win this, but the Euros 2020 is there for the taking…as long as you avoid Scotland,
I’ve gone early to beat rises and done my 3 transfers because prices were exact. Iniesta/Isco/Quintero -> Modric/Lingard/Claasen
Plan is Captain Lukaku, with Kane as the backup. Thinking I should maybe go Suarez though as I think he’s on penalties. Any early thoughts on this plan?
Like it …Suarez does definitely seem to be their penalty taker! France have conceded 4 with 2cs’ while Brazil have conceded 1 with 3cs’ so I’d probably lean towards Suarez over Lukaku for captain myself! Just be prepared you will definitely be needing a minimum of 7 (8 if Brazil go through) transfers for the next round (allowed 5) so would need 2-3 hits unless you’ve still got your wildcard
