Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 30 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 29Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Captain Picks for GW30! We are entering the part of the season where the difference between the newbies and the experienced becomes obvious, so if you all, like me, are looking to salvage some pride and climb up the rankings, this is the time to do it. Part of doing that is selecting the right captain, and I must admit, it was a bit more difficult writing this article than usual as half the teams don’t play this GW. On reflection though, it may be a vastly reduced game-week but the captain pool doesn’t suffer as a result, as there are still a good many exceptional candidates this week, so let’s get right to it.

Sergio Aguero (away vs Norwich)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]The obvious choice for many would be Aguero for this round. He was the obvious choice last round as well, and rewarded his cappers with 2 goals, which could have been 3 had he converted the penalty. Now he’s coming up against a Norwich side that have tightened up a bit defensively lately, but still haven’t kept a clean sheet since GW20. While Aguero blanked in his 2 matches before last week’s brace against Aston Villa, he has scored 8 goals altogether in his last 7 matches. Clearly, he is on form and should haul a decent amount of points against relegation candidates Norwich, who sit last in the form table, having lost 5 of their last 6 matches. Expect Kun to be topping most Captain polls this week as many will just default to the tried and tested method when in doubt of #alwayscaptainkun.

Harry Kane (away vs Aston Villa)

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]If Aguero was the standout captain option last week because he was up against Villa’s defence, then Kane has to be one of the standout options this weekend as it’s his turn to go up against the same. Spurs were on a 6 match winning streak before losing to West Ham and drawing to Arsenal, and will surely look to rebound with a win against Villa. Kane may have blanked in 3 of his last 5 matches, but that shouldn’t matter much against a defence that has managed to concede 15 goals in their last 4 matches. This should be a walkover for Spurs, just as it was for City, and Kane should be expected to be among the goals. Villa really are at a low, in every sense of the word and an early Spurs goal has every chance of opening the floodgates for another thrashing.

[divider_1px]

Gylfi Sigurdsson (away vs Bournemouth)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]If you’re looking for a differential this week, my recommendation would be Sigurdsson. The Icelander has scored more goals this season than any season before with 8 goals, and most importantly, 6 of those 8 goals have come in his last 10 matches. That being said, he comes up against a Bournemouth team that have conceded only 1 goal in their last 3 matches. Furthermore, they have won 3 of their last 6, putting them 7th in the form table. Still, Sigurdsson can put in a performance against anyone, as he has proven by scoring against Manchester United and Everton, and coming off the bench to assist against Arsenal. While he is not as recommendable as the other options in this article, he represents a differential to all of them.

Riyad Mahrez & Jamie Vardy (home vs Newcastle)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]This match really is a top vs bottom tie as 1st-placed Leicester welcome Newcastle, who sit 2nd last in the league. While Leicester have struggled a bit lately, drawing against West Bromwich and barely winning against Norwich & Watford, their struggles are nowhere near Newcastle’s struggles, who have lost 6 straight matches away. Regardless of their form, Leicester should be expected to win comfortably against this Newcastle side. Mahrez has registered 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 7 matches, while Vardy has 4 goals and 1 assist in just as many matches. Which one you want to give the armband to is much down to personal preference, but both players should be considered safe options for this round. Newcastle have conceded 12 goals in their last 5 matches, so both Mahrez and Vardy should be among the points this weekend.

That’s it for this week’s Captain Picks. Good luck!

Thanks Tekno, love these pieces. I think I will go Kun but will probably obsess over it all week and change 5 times!! Could I have some opinions please on this team 2ft
Keep Ozil and do Payet-siggy (would lose less buying him back for Arnie next week)
    Borthwick – maybe Swansea defender
Got all my chips so can wildcard wk33

Hi Joanne. Blank or no blank, injury or no injury, i would bin all things United ASAP. You’ve got the main defensive cover for this week though so it’s hard to see any other likely clean-sheets. I suppose Williams is fine as at least if Swansea do get the cleanie then he’s just about guaranteed three bonus points. Another option, from the same game funnily enough, is Daniels.

    Thanks guys,
Always appreciated and always very helpful.
Could you (or anyone) take a look at my team and maybe give me some options.
I have 1FT and all chips with 1.7 in the kitty.
I’ve been closing the gap in my ML and think the team above me will struggle this week.
    Thanks.

Morning ft. Okay, the team ahead of you being in a pickle this week is key info here. Do nothing and roll with what you’ve got. The thinking behind that is that your team this week beats his / hers already, assuming hits are needed to field any sort of team at all. Then, next game-week, when your rival is all over the shop having been whooped this week you’ll be sitting pretty on 2 FT’s, ready for the weeks ahead.

      • DMC says:

Spot on NIN. Exactly my thinking for this situation which is very similar to mine. I’m now leading the money ML thanks to last week’s monster haul and both 2nd and 3rd place only have 8 and 9 players to field, respectively, and only 1 FT.
I have 11 that don’t blank. The only thing that’s bugging me is that one of those 11 is Cedric who got benched last time out. Before that, however, he had started 8 of their last 9 and Martina never started back to back games this season except between GW 18 and 20. It would be sweet to be sitting on 2 FT next round but I fear for cedric’s spot. What do you reckon, should I risk it with cedric in name of those 2 FT or should I play safe and get a stokie in? Or does anyone have Koeman’s number? Have 0.1 ITB and of course 1 FT. Cheers

**Reposting my doubt from the previous thread***

Hello Pancho and NIN..the time difference is the culprit here..i was thinking that why are we all planning to get players from spurs(kane and erikson), siggy, etc when they dont even have a double week? Suppose we play our wildcard(if any) on gw33, and further select all the dgw players for gw34, then what would the plans for gw37 be where i guess we’ll have more double games..should we not start preparing for gw34 from now on and keep players like lukaku, payet who sure are going be a part of both the doubles?

      inittowinit says:

Largely depends on what your plan is with that WC. It’s worth noting that a good few teams will have a DGW in both so if you WC for the earlier one you can set a good base for the second one in the process. If you don’t intend using it until 37 then yeah you’re right, hanging onto some of these now will help toward that first one, if you can.

      NIN says:

Hey Constantine, i forgot to get back to you earlier, oops. If you’ve got a wildcard then there’s no need to worry about dgw’s until they are announced and then it will just be a matter of deciding which one to play it in, meaning you play as normal for now and hunt hauls, of which one of the biggest could be Spurs vs Villa this week. For those without a wildcard, like myself, it’s tough to get a balance between staying afloat + planning ahead for weeks that haven’t been announced yet. I think it would be a mistake to not buy Spurs this week because they wont have a double in a months time, or more. There’s massive points in that game so seeing as we’re on a short week, it could be horrific to not have these points at least in our teams, when others are doubling them with capo picks. I wouldn’t sell Payet myself unless absolutely necessary but i would bin Lukaku for Kane in a heartbeat this week, WC or no WC, dgw or no dgw. If the first dgw is a huge one then that’s where the BB goes, after that it’s a case of doing the best we can for the next one and then obviously TC’ing someone for that one. Hopefully we’ll know about the doubles by the weekend so we can gauge things clearly rather than guessing / assuming. Fun and games, eh? 😉

      • KI says:

        NIN,

Great talk, great advice. I was leaning to Kun…always Kun…but Villa’s shabby form makes Kane plausible. A real dilemma, as they’re both away, and Citeh doesn’t do as well on the road…but Spurs seem to. Not being pushy…but any thoughts?

        • NIN says:

Hi Ki. It didn’t take long for me to settle on Aguero this week mate. I feel like they’re going to really go in on Norwich this weekend after their decent rest period. What difference it makes when playing a team as pants as Villa is another matter, but Spurs’ Europa game has to be considered at least as its a ferocious one, away at Dortmund. I’d be shocked if they didn’t beat Villa comfortably but as far as utter trouncing’s go, i’m backing City this weekend as the most likely to score four times, or more. I’ve gone Mahrez as (VC) as i think McClaren just wont have any clue about what to do with Leicester other than bend over and take his spanking.

      • constantine says:

Thanks NIN..that’s some description.. I cant get kane in without a -4. But still , I’ll wait for the gw34 fixtures to be announced first and then take my decision..thanks NIN and Initt.
