Identifying individuals who will ascend tiers during the fantasy football season is crucial. Every year, athletes accomplish this and help fantasy managers win championships. To assist you in determining the league champions of 2023, we are examining players who are projected to be selected in the first round of next year’s draft.

D’Andre Swift
Before suffering an A.C. joint sprain that ended his season in Weeks 1-11, D’Andre Swift was a fantasy monster. He averaged 19 touches and 97.5 total yards per game as the RB7. While the Lions have added more passing game weapons in the summer with D.J. Chark and Jameson Williams, Swift’s efficiency in the air gives reason for optimism that his target share (18.4%, second among running backs) will not experience a significant decline. In Weeks 1-11, he ranked tenth among running backs in yards per route run (minimum 15 targets per PFF).

Javonte Williams
Melvin Gordon signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos, ending Javonte Williams’ potential breakout season in 2022. The notion of Williams playing a three-down role seemed enticing, but Gordon’s return after a severely unappreciated 2021 season should not be disregarded.

The return of MG3 significantly lowers Williams’ fantasy ceiling. This is precisely what new head coach Nathaniel Hackett wants and spoke about at the NFL owner’s meeting in March. He will share carries with another competent running back, Gordon.

Williams was 13th in touches last season (246, 14.6 per game). He would be the frontrunner to take another step forward in the passing game – like Aaron Jones – after finishing as one of two rookie R.B.s in the top 15 in route participation in 2021: Najee Harris (first) and Javonte Williams (13th).

Williams sits just outside the RB1 discussion for me in redraft and best ball, but he’s very close. I believe he can be ranked at least RB15, given that he finished there as a rookie with a split workload in a much poorer offensive situation.

CeeDee Lamb
No more for Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson in 2022 can only bode good fortune for CeeDee Lamb. In an offense with an overabundance of playmakers, Lamb’s main problem was that he never received the required number of targets.

Last season, Lamb’s target share of 18% ranked outside the top 30 among all pass catchers.

With the eighth-most vacated targets remaining to be allocated among Lamb, tight end Dalton Schultz, ACL-injury returning Michael Gallup, veteran James Washington, and third-round rookie pick Jalen Tolbert in 2022, I’d wager that Lamb’s target share will surpass 20%. His 21% target rate per route run was the highest in Dallas during the previous season.

Consequently, more fantasy production is forthcoming. Lamb failed to achieve double-digit fantasy points in a game with fewer than six targets only once in 2021.
