Four strikers Tottenham Hotspur could sign to replace Harry Kane
Just when it looked like cold water had been poured on Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, there was a massive twist in the tale earlier this week — as the England captain failed to show up for training after being granted an extended holiday due to the Three Lions reaching the final of Euro 2020.
With Manchester City now the 28-year-old’s most likely destination, according to the latest football odds, and no real out-and-out backup striker in the squad, Spurs’ recruitment team will be working tirelessly to find a suitable replacement for Kane, which at this point in the transfer window, will not be an easy feat.
So, with just over a week to go until the 2021/22 Premier League season gets underway, and Spurs desperate for a new forward, let’s take a look at four strikers they could sign to replace the outgoing Kane…
Lautaro Martínez
Lautaro Martínez has had quite the year. He helped Inter Milan win their first Serie A title in a decade, before playing a huge part in Argentina’s first Copa América triumph in 28 years. If anybody can soften the huge blow of Spurs losing Kane, it’s him. At just 23 years of age, and with 49 goals in 132 games for the Nerazzurri, the Argentine seems like the perfect replacement. With Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal also interested in Martínez’s signature, it would mean bragging rights for the Spurs fans — should they beat their north London counterparts to the signing!
Dušan Vlahović
Likened to Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Håland, Dušan Vlahović is another good option for Spurs. The 21-year-old scored 21 times in 37 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season. So, it’s no surprise that he has attracted a lot of interest from European football’s big hitters. However, with a reported price tag of £50-odd million, it is a big risk to splash such a substantial amount of money on after the Serbian had just one good season. Again, Spurs could have to fend off interest from the Gunners if they are to lure Vlahović to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gabriel Barbosa
Things may not have gone to plan for Gabriel Barbosa during his initial stint in Europe, when he failed to impress at Inter Milan before being shipped back to Brazil. However, since returning to his native land, he has certainly found his shooting boots — netting an impressive 90 times in 122 appearances for Flamengo. Given his goalscoring prowess, it’s no surprise that he is often linked with a move back to European shores, and the 24-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.
Danny Ings
With one proven Premier League goalscorer on their way out, it makes sense for Tottenham to bring in another — in the form of Danny Ings. The 29-year-old, who has helped make Southampton more favourable on the top football predictions sites, scored 34 goals in 67 league appearances for the Saints since he moved to Saint Mary’s on a permanent basis from Liverpool back in 2019, and it’s that kind of goalscoring return that Spurs will be desperate for with Kane leaving the club this summer!
