FPL Ramblings
As you all know, unlike the others I actually hate these intros. So I am just going straight into it.
One Note: This is obviously written before the gameweek is all done so Hammers and Leicester players were not taken into account.
Here we go.
Team of the Week
Lloris makes an appearance after his 11 point performance. That is two clean sheets and max bonus both weeks for him.
The defenders are the sort of the players/teams you expect in there. TAA had a fantastic game with 7 key passes, 1 shot and 1 assist. Add the 3 bonus to his tally and he ended up on 12, the kind of performance you expect from the highest priced defender in the game. It was no surprise to see a City defender make the team, perhaps a little surprising though to see it be Laporte. Certainly not because the Frenchman Spanish International is not capable, just because it sounded like he would be on the move and might not get game time, but he did and duly delivered. Duffy (4.0) jumped in there and made many a Tsimikas owner dream of a smooth transition over. The thought is that Duffy still has a few weeks in the XI or that is the hope, more on him later. James got the start for Chelsea and he was electric. Great finish on his goal plus a well squared pass to Lukaku for the assist add to that a clean sheet and the 3 bonus and you have the highest scoring player this GW up to now. Mings also made it in. He had 2 assists and a clean sheet. You add the 3 bonus and he chalked up a real nice 15.
Mason Greenwood currently leads all mids this gameweek. He didn’t have a great score, it was still good though and his owners will happily take it, but 10 points is usually not enough to make the team of the week much less lead it in the midfield section. That is two 90 minute performances, where he scored both times and got some bonus both times. For 7.5 he sure is providing great value so far. Speaking of good value, the next 3 on the list are also definitely that, well at least for this week they are. Not sure if Klich, Gray and El Ghazi will ever be consistent enough even at their cheap price, but if you happen to own them this week, congrats, great call.
Jesus is the lone striker, which is sort of odd to say as he was not played there. Not sure how to treat his appearance on here. It could be a one off or he could be back here again quicker than we would all expect. Pep will decide that. Frankly any City striker/winger will do well in fpl if they get consistent minutes.
Quick Notes
– I said this last week “If Traore was even half-decent at finishing, he is the talk of fpl right now.” I stand by it.
– Ings has scored 2 goals from only 3 shots. Not sure if that is good or disturbing if you own him.
– Lukaku led fpl with 8 shots this GW, followed by Mane and Rafinha with 6.
– Duffy has seven shots this season, Tarkowski has five, easily in the lead for defenders.
– Bissouma not only had an assist with the big chance created he also almost took Etepo’s head off with a shot.
– Wouldn’t read too much into Brentford’s defence doing well, they faced a weakened Arsenal and Crystal Palace in their other game, two sides who are yet to score.
– Norwich had 1 shot versus City, 1 freaking shot!
– Also, Norwich had their full starting XI hold an average position in their own half.
– The top 20 players in fpl are made up of 4 keepers, 9 defenders, 6 mids, and 1 forward.
– Leeds defence looks very difficult to invest in, they look like they are trying to win every game 5-4.
– Liverpool and Spurs both have zero goals allowed, they have both been very lucky in both games to keep clean sheets.
– Villa, Palace and Everton have lower expected goals allowed than LFC and Spurs, yet they have all allowed three so far.
– Jesus was very impressive for City in the wide position had 2 assists, was unlucky to not have 4.
– DCL only scored the penalty, he had several really good chances, could have been a hatty.
– Let me repeat, DCL on pens, sign me up please.
– Lukaku (1 game) currently has a higher XG than 5 teams who have played twice.
– Alli took a penalty that he dived earned, if Bergwjin squares a ball to him correctly he would have scored a brace.
– Son was carrying some kind of knock, so just keep your eye out for that.
– Raphinha is in the could have had a better day category, if he just stop shooting from outside the box, the one time he did get closer, he scored.
– James had 4 shots and 4 key passes vs Arsenal.
Transfers in so far. (Top 10)
Transfers out so far. (Top 10)
It’s a Trap!!
Looking at the transfer market so far there are few names that stick out to me. I suspect that Tsimikas will be overtaken as the most bought player, but he should easily remain top 10 for the week. Considering that Robbo already made the bench, it looks like the Greek’s time in the XI is numbered. IT’S A TRAP!!
Luke Shaw is being sold. He plays Wolves and Toon next, those two teams have combined to score 2 goals so far and in the case of Newcastle they have been dismal at defending set pieces which Shaw has a share of, so if you are selling, IT’S A TRAP!!
A mini-trap? Yeah, Antonio is one. Relax, I don’t mean that he is a bad transfer, just that if you are bringing him in before he has even played this GW you are really tempting fpl fate. In particular when you consider his injury history. As an owner, I hope it works out for you. IT’S A MINI-TRAP?!
D’oh trophy
There are many candidates/teams that could win this. Could call attention to Arsenal’s performance at home. Could mention Norwich vs City. Perhaps I should talk about those who had Bruno captain and were gloating once Salah blanked. But my winner is…
Michael Keane who not only had an error leading to a goal last week, but decided that was not enough and once again gave away the clean sheet for Digne owners with another costly error that led to a goal against, so Michael, congrats you are the D’oh of the week.

That was a great article, the week brilliantly summarised. I benched Shaw and lost a point but never thought of him as a transfer. Bit early to panic with any highly owned players.
