Premier League Relegation Odds: Which Teams Face the Dreaded Drop this Season?

Although the attention is primarily focused on the upper echelons of the table, the clubs battling to retain their Premier League status often makes for far more drama, with the financial implications of dropping into the Championship sometimes proving devastating for years to come.

This season sees Norwich City and Watford, two newly promoted teams with a reputation for yo-yoing between the top two tiers, being backed as favourites for the drop.

Betting on Premier League relegation is a popular betting market, even well beyond the UK borders with international and Vegas betting websites currently offering a wide range of European soccer-betting markets and odds since sportsbetting is legal in 20+ U.S states.

Norwich City
The Canaries made a shocking start to their campaign, leading to Dean Smith coming in to replace Daniel Farke as manager.

A couple of recent wins has given them hope, but they are still seen as the 2/7 favourites for the drop with BetFred.

Watford
The Hornets also made an early managerial change, with Xisco making way for Claudio Ranieri.
They’ve actually got off to a perfectly reasonable start, with notable victories at Everton and at home to Manchester United. Even so, Watford are 10/11 with Betfair for a swift return to football’s second tier.

Newcastle United
Newcastle currently prop up the table and remain winless after a dozen games. Steve Bruce has gone but, more importantly, so has Mike Ashley.
The controversial Saudi takeover has seen a surge in optimism among the supporters though, with the January transfer window expected to result in a number of high-profile moves.
Eddie Howe will need to have his team within touching distance of safety by the time the window opens for business if the Geordies are to secure their main targets. Newcastle are 10/11 for the drop with BetVictor.

Burnley
Burnley have had a difficult start to the season too, with just one victory to date leaving them in the drop-zone.
They are seasoned campaigners when it comes to top-flight survival under Sean Dyche though. The Clarets squad isn’t the deepest and there is always a concern over where the goals will come from, which explains odds of 11/10 with BetVictor on Burnley being demoted.

Leeds United
It could be argued that Leeds are suffering from second-season syndrome under Marcelo Bielsa, but the reality is that a relatively small squad has been hit by injuries to key players.
They should be back to close to full-strength soon, but they are too close to the bottom three for comfort and are accordingly on offer at 4/1 with bet365 to be relegated.

Brentford
Brentford always looked the best equipped of the promoted teams to survive in the top tier this term and they have certainly not looked out of place.
However, a run that has seen them take just a solitary point from a possible 15 is a concern and might signal the end of any honeymoon period. The Bees are 4/1 with William Hill to slip straight back down to the Championship.

We asked the sports betting fanatics at Betfinder.co.uk for their predictions:
“Norwich are the obvious pick for the drop but offer no value at odds of just 2/7. However winless Newcastle United are a club in disarray and currently bottom of the Premier League table with just six points from their opening 12 matches. Odds of 10/11 for the Magpies to go down could be an interesting bet to follow for the remainder of the EPL season.”
