Once again, we teetered on the knife edge between a good week and a bad one. Six of our starting XI failed to deliver, with Murillo leading the flop parade — just a single point to his name. Naughty step. Muppet. Salah only narrowly avoided joining him, scraping to 3pts thanks to a clean-sheet bonus. Slim pickings, but we’ll take it.

That was the bad. The good? Porro nailed his DEFCON duties for a heroic 4pts, Cucurella banked a clean sheet for 6pts, and Ndiaye added a vital 7pts.

But the real story was João Pedro. Going in without a standout captaincy option felt like a gamble, but the former Brighton man delivered: another goal, maximum bonus, and 18pts with the armband. Phew. Crisis averted.

Of course, the sting in the tail: Diouf’s 10pts sat wasted on the bench. First sub. Brutal.

Still, we finished just above par with 49pts (GW average: 48pts) — enough for another green arrow, edging us up from 6.32m to 5.74m. Progress, however slow, is progress.

This week, we’re stripping things back. The plan is simple: if we can roll, we roll. The war chest is healthy, and if the pressers throw us a curveball, we’ve got the funds to react.

Temptation is always there — if this were my personal squad, that £4.3m wouldn’t be gathering dust — but this isn’t a dictatorship. Our collective management team tends to take the cautious, pragmatic approach. For now, patience wins the day.

Captaincy was the big call — and we’re backing Salah. Yes, the form has dipped and the points have dried up, but the fixture says everything: Burnley. Nuff said.
