Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 4
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 4.
There were a few options for the armband this week, so many in fact, that the writers here at FF247 weren’t sure who to write about. They were left bamboozled and stunned into silence. Words were escaping them. Tumbleweeds until we had two voices step forward and find their voices.
Jamie Mc and OddDane have gone through some of the ones they feel are the best options so please let’s see if the should have stayed quiet or will one of them be shouting from the rooftops that their pick came out on top when the dust settles on Monday!
Jamie Mc — Isak v Burnley (A)
I hope that the season has started well for you with your team looking in decent shape after the first three game weeks of the season. With the first international break of the season now over, we have four game weeks to enjoy before the October international break. It also feels like the fantasy game should feel more settled with the transfer window closed and we all now know which new players have been added to the game and which players have been transferred between teams.
On that very point then I present for your consideration, Liverpool’s Alexander Isak (£10.4m & 7.4%). It may take the now British record transfer fee holder (of up to £130m) time to gain match fitness but Isak will surely get some game time this weekend and soon be a first-choice pick for 90 minutes most game weeks.
At the time of writing, 487,741 managers have transferred Isak into their squad with 79,540 surprisingly now transferring him out of their squads.
With games at Burnley, home to Everton and away to Palace and then at Chelsea, the fixtures have been quite difficult for still unbeaten Liverpool since the start of the season.
It will be interesting to see how this new Liverpool team is set up as there has been quite a turnaround in players over the close season. Gone are Trent, Luis Diaz, Darwin and of course Diogo Jota (RIP) to be replaced by Frimpong, Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak.
It appears to me that Mo Salah (£14.5m) has not been quite as involved this season. With one goal and one assist so far this season, is Salah missing his mate Trent to pass the ball to him, is this new Liverpool shape affecting Salah’s involvement and output, are there now too many mouths to feed to keep Salah relevant? Dare I say, should anyone on a wildcard now be moving away from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 and replacing Salah with Haaland?
I do not know if these ramblings are a captain’s article, or why you should transfer in Isak and captain him, or why you should transfer out Salah, hence my 5,576,235 overall ranking.
Good luck for the game week.
OddDane — Mateta v Sunderland (A)
Pick a Mr Jean Phillipe Mateta – I know, that sexy name picks itself, doesn’t it? Should be all we need to pick the man.
Okay, maybe we should put something in about football…
The tall Frenchman is playing the lads of Sunderland at home this Saturday.
Sunderland have started well, winning their two home games (West Ham & Brentford) and losing away to Burnley. Arguably these have been some easier fixtures for them and but this game has Crystal Palace as a clear favorite to win. Conversely, the Eagles are undefeated despite three challenging games against Villa, Forest and Chelsea.
Sadly both Sarr and Wharton are likely out, but that also puts Mateta as their main threat and he’s on penalty duty. He’s no stranger to goals either, having put in 14 and 16 goals in the last two seasons and averaging a goal contribution every other game. An xGI of 0.53 per 90 and a G+A of 0.58 per 90 in the Prem for the Eagles.
There you have it, a decent choice to put your minds at ease. Keep it simple! Hakuna Mateta my friends, Hakuna Mateta!
OddDane – Haaland v Man Utd (H)
Haalandinho, baller of the Nordics, Football cyborg ver.6.87 software, Balon D’or compliant.
The big blonde Viking has found his scoring boots and put in a hattrick and an assist for good measure.
Oh wait… that wasn’t for Man City… all right, that was against Moldova. But hey, he’s facing Manchester United at home this weekend. That’s basically the same thing anyway, a fair comparison some would say.
Haaland has been scoring in the league too to be fair, three goals from three games and he tops the xG stats across the first few games too. He has really been unlucky and those without him should really be thanking their lucky stars that he has punished them even more!
It’s not exactly breaking news or rocket science that he scores goals, so what’s the hold up? Put that armband to good use and watch your usual points see double.
OddDane – Salah v Burnley (A)
Here’s an outside choice that will surprise most. He had 0.05xG in his last game and one shot on target so surely you will skip this one, right? Who would choose such a silly option!?
Well, it so happens it’s Mo Salah, the Egyptian king of FPL and thou shall bask in his glory as he wrecks havoc on Burnley’s defense with your armband solidly placed in his sleeve.
‘Nuff said.”
Jamie wrote about Isak above but Salah will start so if you still fancy this fixture then this is a much safer option.

5 and 2 assists..
We told him to stop at halftime but his software isn’t fully adjusted yet, he just can’t stop scoring
Oof. That would be very tidy with the captain’s armband
I am not sure yet, I am split over Salah or Haaland
Wow, you have both, good choice to have.
