Atletico Madrid agrees to terminate Diego Costa’s contract
Spanish club Atletico Madrid have officially confirmed the termination of centre-forward Diego Costa’s contract with them.

A statement released by Atletico Madrid read via Goal: “Atletico de Madrid and Diego Costa have reached an agreement for the termination of the striker’s contract, which was to end on June 30, 2021.
“The striker asked to leave the club for personal reasons a few days ago and on Tuesday signed the termination of his contract. The club thanks Diego Costa for his dedication during these years and wishes him well in the next stage of his professional career.”
The 32-year-old striker, lately, had been struggling with fitness issues following his return to Wanda Metropolitano from Premier League club Chelsea back in 2018, as his performance in the final third saw a significant drop.
Ever since his return to the Spanish side, Costa has only been able to register 12 goals in 61 La Liga appearances, as two of those goals coming from the first half of the 2020/21 season.
The Spain international last goal for Diego Simone’s side was scored in a penalty kick during their 3-1 home victory against Elche on December 19, as Luis Suarez found the back of the net twice to secure a comfortable win for the team.
