Welcome to Barry and Paul’s Predictions – The Final Reckoning. GW38 brought the season to a close in typical GW38 style. The final game-week of the Premier League often throws ups some unusual final scorelines and this season was no different; a 9 goal thriller in Spurs last home game at Wembley, City scoring a solitary goal in their win at St Mary’s, and of course my beloved Newcastle putting 3 past Chelsea without reply – Happy days!
What started as an informal and innocent comment on another random article, asking you what you thought the game-weeks scores would be that week, has turned into something of an FF247 staple article now! Careful what you say around here folks, it can often rob you of hours of your life! That it then took on a life of it’s own is thanks to the continued engagement and enthusiasm from you lovely lot – so a massive thank you from both myself and my fellow Chuckle Barry (Matt) for making this happen.
We would also like to announce that Barry and Paul are going global, which is a more exciting way of saying that we’ll be running a competition throughout this year’s World Cup finals.
Some of you will be taking a well deserved break from all things ‘Fantasy’ this summer, but if you fancy trying your hand at predicting results throughout this years World Cup then this is the place to come. We’ll be posting up more details before you can say ‘England are going home’ or ‘England fans clashed with local police in Russia’.
Before then we still have two weeks of results to reveal, and of course this season’s overall winner, so without further ado, lets see who did what, and how!
In GW37 it was Mr.Bean who took top spot; 13pts were just enough to see off second placed Neelbasus and DenPerryDidit, who both finished on 12pts. A whole host of teams were just behind them on 11pts in third, I’d tell you who they were, but Barry (Matt) didn’t tell me, so if you’re really interested then shout out and I’m sure he’ll let you know!
Weekly Leader board (GW37)
Winner = Mr.Bean 13pts
2nd = Neelbasus and DenPerryDidit 12pts
3rd = Lots of people 11pts
In the final game-week, 12pts were enough to make Sam10 the winner, closely followed by yours truly with 11pts. Third place was a tie; Constantine and Albox both picking up a solid 10pts.

OVERALL WINNERS(S)
So who won the 2017/18 Barry and Pauls Predictions overall league title I here you cry! Did Init do enough to hold on to top spot despite predicting a 0-11 score for Man City in GW38?
Well in short no.
It was apparent from the get-go that when it comes to this predicting lark, two of you are seemingly a cut-above the rest. Coys and DenPerryDidit have been making this look easy from day one, and in the end, it’s perhaps fitting that they both finished the season with an epic total of 221pts. Perhaps the pressure got too much for our illustrious leader? There have been rumours that perhaps in the name of good sportsmanship, he simply became a little ‘overly generous’ in his predictions (Southampton v Man City 0 -11 anyone?), we’ll never know. Init finished the season just 2pts behind our leaders; 219pts wasn’t enough to for Init to win it (I know, I know) but it was a bloody good effort all the same.
Congratulations Coys and DenPerryDidit. Perhaps it would have been better if Init had won, because now he needs to provide not one but two suitable prizes for your achievements, over to you boss! Email the site please both.

On the subject of that… that new pop up thing is a necessity unfortunately due to the new GDPR rules. The good news is that it remembers you (your IP) for 11 months so in theory it’s a one off and won’t be annoying you every time you come on. I stress ‘in thoery’

Had some time to look at my MLS side, Brought in some SKC defenders who are not in the 18 to force Callens and Hoesen in and now will wait on Quintero from Minnesota to see what he does. If he does well let him sub in, if not I will go transfer in Piatti in for my midfield scrub.
Think that is the big advantage of having the bench guys go early in the GW, you can force them in early when they do well and it gives you more options with the last bench option. I prefer when one team has a bye, but if there is none, at some point I try to force my good scores in by bringing in a scrub that is not in the 18 when the team sheet comes out. I don’t want a one minute debut from some guy I never expected to play ruining my chance to have a good score auto sub in.
How are you faring this season so far?
Meh, going back and forth in ranking anywhere from 50 to 150 the last couple of weeks.
In contention then, as expected!
Plan B is a goer if FIFA don’t come through.
They are so much better than Fifa.
It’d be my preference too but happy to go with the crowd depending on which they prefer.
Guessing people will want to play the official one, but what a mess it was last time. Took them several games to fix their shit.
It’s the default position and that may also be because people want to play across other leagues with mates / work etc with the same team they enter in our league and the majority will play that one.

Would love to get some people’s thoughts on GW39 players to bring in. Surprised it’s not rammed on here tonight given how important the closing stages of the season are. It was much busier on other sites last week than it is on here this week, which is a sound comparison to make 😎 :whistle:

An interesting question is who would you like your team to realistically buy?
For United I’d love a proper midfielder to play alongside Matic & Pogba, 2 new full backs and a central defender.

Alex Sandro is plenty good. Just his luck that he is stuck behind Marcelo and a Filipe Luis that had a very good season. But if I were buying, I take Sandro over Luis.

Personal opinion only – he won’t fit in UTD -> just bcs of Jose’s style of play…
I don’t see the PL & UTD as a place for him to further develop.
The PL is tough.
He needs another year in Italy but in a stronger team and only then it would be wise to move on.
Maybe Im being too harsh on the guy, but we’ve seen many “talents” who’ve wasted their careers making the “logical next step” in their careers joining a Top4 PL team too soon.
If Martial leaves UTD (and chances of that happening are 90%+) Perisic would be a super quality+a very logical replacement (read : upgrade)…
Problem is that Jose is selling Martial to give Alexis more space on the left !
So,there is ur answer on the Perisic deal (probably won’t happen)..

Jose lost my respect yrs ago.
To be exact the same year he won the Tripleta (Scudetto+Cup+CL) when he “parked the bus” (probably for the 1st time in such an important game + with a super strong Inter team at that time) against Barsa and killed the game !!
He then went playing the same “shite” (read : let’s not lose as a primary goal & score a lucky goal if we can) attitude.
That was the end for Jose as a “great manager” in my eyes.
Tbh, from that point on he had a catastrophic time @Chelsea ; he practically won nothing @Real and is doing the same now @UTD…
Another trophy-less year in UTD (combined with a big transfer spending) and he will be on his way out, me thinks !
Buy who you want, they’re still being orchestrated by Mourinho! Most teams in the world would kill to have 2 thirds of that midefield equation filled by Matic and Pogba. You need a Modric / KdB as a 3rd but as I say even then I wouldn’t trust this version of Jose to let them loose.
Fullbacks are ok as they are but yeah they can be upgraded but again to what with him in charge?
CB is the main one really. You need a linchpin in there. A Vidic, a Kompany, a Pallister, a Bruce. Jones is an absolute joke.
The worst thing we did is buy Alexis. He’s shown next to nothing and has hampered Pogba , Lingard & Martial. Rashford also.

I’m never one to pay attention to rumours and in fact dismissed talk of the Ox coming to Liverpool on the day it happened. However the Jan Oblak (to Liverpool) story is one that interests me.

There are further rumours swirling round about Lascelles and Tarkowski. Wilder rumours suggest that the latter is related to Andrei Tarkovsky, European art cinema legend. If this is true, and Tarkovski was brought up on a strict diet of ‘Stalker’, then ‘zonal’ marking may be interesting next season.

Oblak is a win-win (ideal) scenario, but can’t see Atletico giving up on him !
Donnaruma is a more realistic one if LFC want a GK for the next 10 seasons !
Though, Raiola will probably “sell” him to PSG.

Jerry Mina is an interesting rumour (Barsa’s CB ).
And a realistic one (Barsa wants to get rid of).
Dembele is an exciting one (rumour), but can’t see LFC splashing 140mil on him, besides the fact Klopp rates him highly.
“Canal +” from France (usually a very reliable source) shared some info on Fekir’s chances to LIV and rated the deal as 99% done !
That deal alone can make LFC a serious title contender for 2018/19 !

I’ve kept a vague eye on the rumours – Zaha has been mentioned, as well – mainly via Anfield Express (given the reliabilty of the team news a couple of weeks ago).
Anfield Express have a nice short video of Fekir scoring a goal from 250 yards, or something similarly bonkers.

Lacselles would be a fine acquisition. Old head on young shoulders there. He wouldn’t be fazed by the step up and I think he’d be able to form a great partnership with VVD. You’d have two leaders at the heart of the back then, which is always a great starting point. Stick a commanding keeper behind them and then you’re talking.

@HL, Mina has a good shot at starting at the World Cup. He is a clear it CB, you can’t ask him to do much with the ball. He is huge, think bigger than VvD. He can score goals, but if you want to use him correctly, don’t ask him to do more then clear it and go up on set pieces and get a head on it.

Shit! I was supposed to have posted this a few days ago, but I’ve been busy doing absolutely nothing! Firstly thanks to Matt and Rosco for running the predictions competition, i will take joint 10th and hopefully a ff247 shirt in the pipeline for winning a gw! Look forward to any similar games in the future! Clap, secondly, the international friendlies against our fellow Malaysian fantasisers has ended in a 7-7 draw! After being 6-2 down and coming back to take a 6-7 lead, i’m slightly disappointed we didn’t go on to win 6-8! BUT! Fortunately the game was decided on overall points scored, which we won 134-149, so thanks and well done to everyone who let me use their teams in this fun event! If you do have a new MLS league or World cup fantasy league and you would like me to share it via fb in Malaysia I’m only to happy to! Thanks again! 😉

Thanks guys it’s been fun, to answer your question Mito, i think their 1st mistake was when 7 of their players to our 0, played the FH chip in the 1st BGW,which we still managed to win, most players kept their BB and TC for the DGW’s in which we won both, but in between that we had BGW 35 which most of us played our FH chip and trounced them 22-0! I can only imagine they struggled to get a balance between blank players and DGW players around this time!
