Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
It’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that all important armband for game-week 22…[clear]
Sergio Aguero – Crystal Palace (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Allow me to get the formalities of this article out of the way. Sergio Kun Aguero plays at home this weekend. For many FPL managers that’s all they need to know. I’m sure he’ll be an overwhelmingly popular pick… so let’s take a look at why it might *not* be a good idea to trust him with the armband.
Since his first big injury of the season, he’s featured (and started) in 6 matches, playing 428 minutes in all. During those minutes he’s managed to score 2 goals. No assists to his name. City failed to score at home against Everton earlier this week and Palace can actually be quite a tough team to break down. Perhaps a punt on Kolarov, who was rested against Everton, would be a better shout? Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last 4 Premier League matches.
We all know that Aguero’s capable of insane things. City are due a rout and, when playing at the Etihad, anything is possible… even 5 goals in 20 minutes. An early penalty being awarded to the home side – a tap-in from De Bruyne’s pinpoint cross into the 6 yard box – that’s all it could take for absolute carnage to ensue. Look beyond him at your peril.

Dimitri Payet – Newcastle (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Don’t you wish that you’d owned this guy last game-week? If you did… don’t you wish that you’d captained him? If you did.. please come and write the next article for us!
The guy is class. What a free-kick against Bournemouth that was. Brilliant nutmeg and run at goal for the assist as well. He plays against a Newcastle side that, although admittedly growing in confidence, haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 7 matches in all competitions. Dmitri bagged a brace in the reverse fixture this season and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him do it again on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Kane – Sunderland (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Just when the wind seemed to be blowing again, the HurriKane has faltered, once again entering a mini drought in front of goal; just a solitary assist in the last 3 game-weeks. However, before that, he scored 3 goals in 2 games. That included a brace against Norwich at home. He’s also scored twice against West Ham at White Hart Lane and hit home a hat-trick against Bournemouth earlier on in the season.
Therefore, it is clear Kane likes a relatively ‘easy fixture’ to harvest his FPL points, which Sunderland at home does indeed appear to be. The Black Cats haven’t been pushovers lately, but when you consider that Harry has taken the joint-most shots in the Premier League so far this season (tied with Coutinho) and has the highest shot accuracy out of anyone in the top 10 on that list, backing him with the armband this weekend sounds very tempting indeed. Stats and logic often (but not in this crazy season!) prevail.

Riyad Mahrez – Aston Villa (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Mahrez is actually quite a weird name isn’t it? We’ve become so accustomed to seeing it in all of our teams, but the more I think about it, the stranger it sounds. Riyad Mahrez. I take that back… it’s actually just cool. Almost villain-like… mwuahahaha.
Anyway, what a player, who time and time again has produced goals and assists to help lift his team to success. Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture, he didn’t score in the 3-2 thriller, but conducted the game magnificently, contributing 2 assists in one of many man-of-the match performances that he’s produced in recent months.
Villa finally pieced a win together last game-week, but it was against a Crystal Palace side who are currently woeful in front of goal, which still doesn’t explain what Hennessey was thinking as that ball came towards him. The question is: can Mahrez end his 4 match drought? Can he strike back with another hat-trick away from home? Can he be the Villans’ villain? I really don’t see why not. Leicester are back to winning ways.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Watford (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Here’s one we haven’t heard much about for a while! This is my final pick and I was getting a bit bored of picking the usual suspects… then I noticed that Watford have conceded 2 goals in each of their last 4 Premier League matches. So this is one for the brave or the stupid, but let’s face it, this season couldn’t really get any stranger.
Just cast your mind back to the first 10 gameweeks of last season: no serious FPL manager would’ve dreamt of excluding Siggy from their teams. Now, over a year on, things have changed. Leicester are a good team these days. Matic isn’t the best CDM in the world anymore. FF247 t-shirts have spread across the land. However, good-old Gylfi has grabbed a goal in his last two matches and is on penalty duty too, so perhaps this is the start of something good once again for the classy Swansea midfielder.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Good luck with whoever you choose.

Very well written James, great article.
Maybe keep on Kun for me.
What a disaster week with only 25 points. :stupid:
Lowest score of the season for me.
No goal no assist no cs (mid cs only).
Should be good on paper but we all know what happened.
Want to bring Payet in, but who should be out ?
1FT and £1.0 ITB.
1. De Gea + Alli –> Payet + 4.0 GK
2. Bellerin + Alli –> Payet + 4.4 Def
3. Mahrez + Souare –> Payet + 4.3 Def
4. Lukaku + Stanislas –> Payet + 6.3 ST (play 3-5-2)
5. Roll FT
6. Delete team and retired :smiling:
Any suggestion are very welcome.
Hi Ichal, don’t let NIN see that number 6 option, I have enough trouble keeping his team alive without reminding him of the ultimate option!
I don’t think 1 is a goer as the only playing keepers at that price are Rudd and Elliott and I wouldn’t fancy having either as my only option each week. I don’t like 4 as I think you should keep Lukaku. As for the other 2 I’d do the Souare one.
Thanks Init,
Okay, remove option no.6. :smilling:
Seems no.3 are better option.
Or maybe wait till after City game for Payet, but it can bite me if he do something with Newcastle and City.
Also not really happy with De Gea points return lately.
Hoping more points for his price actually, but CS very hard to predict lately.
Going with the cheapie GK soon.
Cheers for the great write-up James. Leaning towards Payet myself but plenty of time to waffle…
I loved the opening bit by the way, let me share the score of one of the teams at the very bottom of my ML :
– 81 points this GW
– Rooney 16
– Hazard, captain on bench
-Giroud, vice capt means 26 points!
– Targett, Sagna, Morgan, Ivanovic for 32 points!
Moral of the story, stop trying!!
Hi Colriles,
Good shout, maybe I will leave my team as it is.
25 points this week, will see next GW. :smilling:
URGENT NEED FOR HELP
Hey everyone… Some advice please as I’ve fallen from 180k to 300k within 3 weeks! Lead of 50 points have also been cut off and my 2 other competitors are on par with me now.
1. How can I bring Payet into the team? I sold Ramsey and Vardy for a hit for Stanilas and Aguero last week when I should’ve just gone for Payet straight sigh…
2. Is there a need to WC? My squad has stagnated already with no players looking to increase in value nor do I have any differential. My competitors are eating points away with the likes of Willian, Arnau, Payet etc.
3. If I do WC, any suggestions?
Thanks really a lot in advance mates!
Neo
The squad isn’t bad so I would get in Payet with your FT. No need for a WC in my eyes.
KDB to Payet might be the call here if you are open to that.
Cheers and thanks for the advice.
I removed KDB for Payet and will bring in Barkley the subsequent week seeing that they have a set of good fixtures. I think I’ll just go on with my gut feel and shall no longer depend on the ‘top’ players anymore
Neo
Wise words right there. There are so many well-performing alternatives to the established players this season.
Worth using my wild card? Will post my wild card draft in a reply below!
wild card team. my defence look fine?
As I suspected really mate, not worth it just for those defensive changes plus Kun. I’d rather take a small hit if necessary to accommodate Kun and even then it seems it may be at the loss of Kane ahead of Sunderland at home so maybe just stick and hide behind the settee for the City game?
I wouldn’t wildcard just yet there is still time in the market for people to buy so would ride it out. Dropping Kane against Sunderland to bring in Aquero who is still not scoring consistently doesn’t seem too smart. Also your team should be fine for upcoming weeks don’t see any must have moves there.
Hi Weller,
How many FT and money do you have ?
IMO you have decent team here, no need WC yet.
fair enough I’ve been convinced haha. Worried cos my H2H opponent this week has kun as captain and we’re joint top!
Hello Viking! 0 FT mate just brought in Payet, 1.5 In the bank though
Weller
I don’t think it is worth a WC at this point. If you feel you need Aguero just now, I would bring him in and downgrade either KDB or Ozil to what you can afford.
who’d you reckon is worth downgrading for KDB
I meant if you wanted Aguero I’d probably downgrade KDB to get him.
Any thoughts on changes for this team mainly thinking Arnautovic – Payet and Vardy – Ighalo, but every time i look at my team i`m not happy . Got 2FT and 1.2m spare i won’t be wildcarding if i even needed too untill after the january market.
Rogue
Holding the WC is sensible as you have strength all round there. Remember you can hold it for any time during rest of the season – no January restrictions this season.
The two transfers I would make and forgive my maths if it doesn’t work (no prices to hand just now) would be Deulofeu to Payet and Vardy to Ighalo.
Hey Rogue – Smalling and Kolarov jump out to me. Seems there are cheaper options to produce similar points. (Sagna, Cresswell, Dier, Walker, Nyom, Dawson). Guessing that would help fund Delefou and Vardy upgrdaes.
Unfortunately @Gallant i`m 0.1m short on that move. @Colriles i would most probably take out kolorov for sagna so good shout.
It’s safe to say…I give up!
