Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
After a coma-inducingly long wait, a diminished set of games and a probably-disappointing score, gameweek 27 came and flew right over our heads… this gameweek, however, there’s no such time to waste; the clock’s ticking. It’s time to pick yourself a captain once again already!
Tuesday night deadlines are always fun, but can also be dangerous: they provide a platform for some of the hastiest of last-minute decision! Many of us don’t even wake up on time to mess up our teams before 11:45am on a Saturday but – unless you’ve had an all-day session like Silvers – this gameweek’s 6:45pm deadline means every FPL manager will be lingering over their laptop (or phone hidden under the dinner table) in anticipation. Ready to strike. Just a couple of quick clicks, the swipe of a finger, a half-hearted jab at ‘confirm your team’… your fate suddenly changed.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at our options now and try to stick with what we know best: logical, form-based, well-thought-out choices. After all, that’s worked brilliantly for us so far this season, hasn’t it?
Willian – away vs Norwich
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Well here’s a vaguely interesting one. I’ve put him first for that very reason: he’d probably get skimmed over otherwise. Most of us don’t own him so that may be the case anyway!
Perhaps we should own him, though, or at least be considering it. Chelsea now sit in the Top 4 at last (…of the Form Guide…) and are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games. Hiddink has raised their spirits and now they face the joint-leakiest defence in the League who have conceded 19 goals in their last 7 games, including multiple goals against relatively shite opposition such as Villa, Bournemouth and Liverpool – sorry – that was a bit harsh on The Cherries.
Willian is Chelsea’s leading scorer in FPL so far this season, having been involved in 13 goals and has grabbed 19 points in the last 2 gameweeks. I could’ve tipped Costa here instead, in fact his goal-involvement is more impressive than Willian’s at present, so by all means consider him if you have him. However, for this captaincy stunt, you need a reliable punt – and to be blunt – this Diego guy’s one hell of a…

Mesut Ozil – home vs Swansea
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Arsenal may be limping but Ozil has found new legs once more. He was in the ‘trusty old dog on his last chance’ category a few gameweeks ago but has since started delivering for us again: scores of 10, 8, 11 either away from home, against stern opposition, or both show that Mesut can (hopefully) now be trusted with the armband. Alexis Sanchez needs to take note!
Swansea have conceded in each of their last 5 games in the Prem and seemingly forgotten what it feels like to win. They’re no pushovers but you sense that another goal-and-assist masterclass is just around the corner. Ok, maybe just an assist, or perhaps even less: Arsenal have struggled against The Swans in recent seasons.
Still, it’s hard to believe there won’t be a fightback on Wednesday night (another positive for Ozil’s case: your captain on a Wednesday so you can sit back and relax the night before) and this game is at the Emirates, so the goals may well be flowing. Want a solid bet? Ozil offers a safe choice I feel.

Romelu Lukaku – away vs Aston Villa
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]It seems like there are growing similarities between Lukaku and Giroud. He may not have the hair, or indeed the sexy accent, but both of these players have scored a decent number of Premier League goals so far – with 16 and 12 respectively – yet get slagged off on a regular basis. Perhaps they should score more. Maybe they are too unreliable. If we had patience with them, though, then we’d probably be fine in the long run!
This week is as good as any for Romelu to deliver one of his trademark braces. That’s where the similarities above tend to end: Lukaku can score twice. Which, of course, is what you need in a striker that you choose to captain. It was 4-0 in the reverse fixture last year. Two goals from Barkley and Lukaku sealed the deal.
If you’ve kept faith in Lukaku then this could be the moment to make the others regret it.

Sergio Aguero – away vs Liverpool
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]I’ve put Aguero in because he’s always an option. He needs no introduction. It was he who assisted Fernandinho’s goal in the corresponding Cup match on Sunday. Sergio also saw at least two shots well-saved by Mignolet, one tipped onto the post, which could’ve equated to a 16 point haul on another (slightly more lucky) day – or *any* other day – one where Mignolet doesn’t decide to be a decent keeper for once.
Liverpool have conceded 6 goals in their last 3 Premier League games at Anfield so Aguero playing away from home shouldn’t worry you too much. He’s on penalty duty and may well be playing against Lucas at CB again. I’ll say no more.

Jamie Vardy – home vs West Brom
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Finally, the obvious choice, the one you go for if none of the others give you a particularly good feeling. That makes Vardy sound quite boring but, honestly, he really isn’t. Staggeringly, he’s been directly involved in 25 goals for Leicester so far, which is more than Aston Villa combined and only 2 shy of his opposition’s tally for the season. Once again, the penalty duty factor applies, which is why he now edges Mahrez for me.
This is a team who scored just 1 against Norwich at home last weekend… but also put 3 past Man City at the Etihad. Too unpredictable? Not really. Jamie’s produced in 21 of the 27 gameweeks thus far and 4 of those blanks came in one dry spell, back in late December, for Leicester as a whole.
There’s never been more to play for and Vardy’s pacy runs will be key to unlocking The Baggies’ backline. With over 50% ownership you ignore him at your peril.

Good luck everyone! We’re almost certainly going to need it.

Wollshite or Alderweird? Might be a daft question but anyone watch the Stoke game this weekend and their defending? Seems like Cameron might play again tomorrow while Bardsley is more of a doubt. Muniesa might make it, though w/o Shawcross (who will not make it), it perhaps really doesn’t matter at all. http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Stoke-City-v-Newcastle-Geoff-Cameron-Phil/story-28837063-detail/story.html
Stuck on what to do with my 2nd transfer for tonight. Stanislas, Alli, Nyom and Yoshida all issues. Already did Ighalo > Kun. Cant afford a straight swap to a nailed on Saints def which would be ideal. Other thoughts?
1 FT, 0.5 itb
Cech, Butland
Cresswell, Toby, Morgan, Nyom, Yoshida
Mahrez, Ozil, Payet, Alli, Stanislas
Kun, Kane, Vardy
Colriles
Save.
Or just do that
That’s what you meant after all, init.
How are you mate?
Harassed GP, Cookies done a runner mid Team Talk so Kop and I are finishing it and I think Kop may have fell asleep during the LVG presser as I haven’t heard from him since it began
Suffering yet again for your art Init.
Well done mate. Tell Kop likewise when he wakes up.
GP, I’m still recovering from Sunday!!!
Hi Colriles, tough one to sort this! Nyom should start again this week although I appreciate you wouldn’t want to do likewise! I’d play Alli for starters and just see what happens there. I’d then consider selling Cresswell for one of your Saints guys. Play him, Morgan and Toby. Nyom can come in for a point if Alli doesn’t make it. Reasoning on Cresswell is that it allows you that Saints player, with 2 much better fixtures ahead and no blank in 30. Your alternatives are maybe a Stoke defender or to cover Alli by finding someone likely to play to replace Stan. I’m not much fussed on either of those options though. Stoke ok this week, not so good next.
Cheers guys for the input. Good shout there on Cresswell, hadn’t thought about shipping him out just yet but now could be the time. Question now then is, this week or next? Hmmm….
Id do it this and then you can play your Saints man with a much better chance of a cleanie.
The GW’s are coming thick and fast. Bes of luck everyone!
Here’s my team for 28.. am I nuts with this lineup. Do we know if Ali will play?
Hey SK – I’d probably start Alli and make Toby first sub and hope for the best. Rest looks good.
special
As you have it for me. Alli isn’t guaranteed. Further assessment tomorrow but is it worth the risk?
Good luck.
Cheers for the help. Heres hoping!
No transfer made! Any suggesstions?
charl
Looks good. If it’s one free transfer, then I’d save it.
Who are you guys going for Capo!?
Charl
Costa :say-what:
Charl, Kun, but I’d be equally happy with Vardy.
Hi all, have 1 FT and £2.5m in the bank. Given West Ham’s next two and a blank, I am seriously considering Ivanovic in for Cresswell. My reservation is that Ivanovic has that GW30 off too and, given the amount of teams blanking that week it may be unwise. However, the vast majoirty of my team are playing that week and so it’s not like I’m shooting myself in the foot by doing it.
Furthermore, I’m not sure who I would play him over this week, all three of my starting defenders have good fixtures!
Any news on Alli?
Thanks in advance.
AT
Poch says he’s OK but will be further assessed tomorrow to see if he’s ready. Which will be too late. He could be rested or he could start. It’s a small risk.
Be tempted to go with what you have. If I were taking a player out I’d be bringing someone in with no blanks on the horizon. Every wee bit helps.
GP, cheers. Ivanovic just seems to be getting points again and he has two good fixtures coming up.
Would you play DDG or Butland?
AT
I understand on Ivanovic I do but that’s an instinct call for yourself mate.
Butland I think.
Cheers, was also thinking about playing four at the back with Ivanovic and benching Alli. Hmm..will have a think, thanks!
I have 1ft and I’ve got a niggling feeling I’m missing someone. Not sure if to do Payet to Barkley or William (but which!?!?) until 30 then get siggy. Don’t want to touch Alli as would lose too much getting him back. Do you think I would regret this move?
joanne
Lots of these teams are similar and I’m beginning to sound like a stuck record here but I would save your FT too
Payet in my mind doesn’t deserve to be removed. He could still tear it up. Willian is tempting but not for Payet for me.
