Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
After a coma-inducingly long wait, a diminished set of games and a probably-disappointing score, gameweek 27 came and flew right over our heads… this gameweek, however, there’s no such time to waste; the clock’s ticking. It’s time to pick yourself a captain once again already!
Tuesday night deadlines are always fun, but can also be dangerous: they provide a platform for some of the hastiest of last-minute decision! Many of us don’t even wake up on time to mess up our teams before 11:45am on a Saturday but – unless you’ve had an all-day session like Silvers – this gameweek’s 6:45pm deadline means every FPL manager will be lingering over their laptop (or phone hidden under the dinner table) in anticipation. Ready to strike. Just a couple of quick clicks, the swipe of a finger, a half-hearted jab at ‘confirm your team’… your fate suddenly changed.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at our options now and try to stick with what we know best: logical, form-based, well-thought-out choices. After all, that’s worked brilliantly for us so far this season, hasn’t it?
Willian – away vs Norwich
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Well here’s a vaguely interesting one. I’ve put him first for that very reason: he’d probably get skimmed over otherwise. Most of us don’t own him so that may be the case anyway!
Perhaps we should own him, though, or at least be considering it. Chelsea now sit in the Top 4 at last (…of the Form Guide…) and are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games. Hiddink has raised their spirits and now they face the joint-leakiest defence in the League who have conceded 19 goals in their last 7 games, including multiple goals against relatively shite opposition such as Villa, Bournemouth and Liverpool – sorry – that was a bit harsh on The Cherries.
Willian is Chelsea’s leading scorer in FPL so far this season, having been involved in 13 goals and has grabbed 19 points in the last 2 gameweeks. I could’ve tipped Costa here instead, in fact his goal-involvement is more impressive than Willian’s at present, so by all means consider him if you have him. However, for this captaincy stunt, you need a reliable punt – and to be blunt – this Diego guy’s one hell of a…

Mesut Ozil – home vs Swansea
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Arsenal may be limping but Ozil has found new legs once more. He was in the ‘trusty old dog on his last chance’ category a few gameweeks ago but has since started delivering for us again: scores of 10, 8, 11 either away from home, against stern opposition, or both show that Mesut can (hopefully) now be trusted with the armband. Alexis Sanchez needs to take note!
Swansea have conceded in each of their last 5 games in the Prem and seemingly forgotten what it feels like to win. They’re no pushovers but you sense that another goal-and-assist masterclass is just around the corner. Ok, maybe just an assist, or perhaps even less: Arsenal have struggled against The Swans in recent seasons.
Still, it’s hard to believe there won’t be a fightback on Wednesday night (another positive for Ozil’s case: your captain on a Wednesday so you can sit back and relax the night before) and this game is at the Emirates, so the goals may well be flowing. Want a solid bet? Ozil offers a safe choice I feel.

Romelu Lukaku – away vs Aston Villa
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]It seems like there are growing similarities between Lukaku and Giroud. He may not have the hair, or indeed the sexy accent, but both of these players have scored a decent number of Premier League goals so far – with 16 and 12 respectively – yet get slagged off on a regular basis. Perhaps they should score more. Maybe they are too unreliable. If we had patience with them, though, then we’d probably be fine in the long run!
This week is as good as any for Romelu to deliver one of his trademark braces. That’s where the similarities above tend to end: Lukaku can score twice. Which, of course, is what you need in a striker that you choose to captain. It was 4-0 in the reverse fixture last year. Two goals from Barkley and Lukaku sealed the deal.
If you’ve kept faith in Lukaku then this could be the moment to make the others regret it.

Sergio Aguero – away vs Liverpool
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]I’ve put Aguero in because he’s always an option. He needs no introduction. It was he who assisted Fernandinho’s goal in the corresponding Cup match on Sunday. Sergio also saw at least two shots well-saved by Mignolet, one tipped onto the post, which could’ve equated to a 16 point haul on another (slightly more lucky) day – or *any* other day – one where Mignolet doesn’t decide to be a decent keeper for once.
Liverpool have conceded 6 goals in their last 3 Premier League games at Anfield so Aguero playing away from home shouldn’t worry you too much. He’s on penalty duty and may well be playing against Lucas at CB again. I’ll say no more.

Jamie Vardy – home vs West Brom
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Finally, the obvious choice, the one you go for if none of the others give you a particularly good feeling. That makes Vardy sound quite boring but, honestly, he really isn’t. Staggeringly, he’s been directly involved in 25 goals for Leicester so far, which is more than Aston Villa combined and only 2 shy of his opposition’s tally for the season. Once again, the penalty duty factor applies, which is why he now edges Mahrez for me.
This is a team who scored just 1 against Norwich at home last weekend… but also put 3 past Man City at the Etihad. Too unpredictable? Not really. Jamie’s produced in 21 of the 27 gameweeks thus far and 4 of those blanks came in one dry spell, back in late December, for Leicester as a whole.
There’s never been more to play for and Vardy’s pacy runs will be key to unlocking The Baggies’ backline. With over 50% ownership you ignore him at your peril.

Good luck everyone! We’re almost certainly going to need it.

Have 2FT and don’t want to waste one, what should I do? 3m ITB
Also wanted to play AOA, but might be wasted with Alli being rested, thoughts?
Melon, forget AOA it’s worthless mate. Ward to a Saints defender?
Yeah fair, its not as valuable as the other chips..
What about Ward -> Kompany? gives me another player for GW30
A saints defender definitely!
I wouldn’t bother with the all out attack chip this week. Ali is getting rested im like 95% positive. Cresswell is your best bet at a clean sheet, and it could happen. Spurs vs Ham will probably be a draw or Spurs win by one goal.
Ali not featuring stopped me using my bench boost this for this GW
oh didnt see that u had transfers lmao ignore me
Any ideas on what should i do with this team???
Have 1ft and 4.5 m itb
A Leicester defender or swap your 5th midfield
You probably shouldnt listen to me, but swap out Payet for someone who features in all GW’s, plus payet not been bringing many points recently apart from that game. And he aint going to do much vs spurs, antonio might but Payet probably wont. But I could be wrong
Who to replace him with IDK? All the players I like are missing some GW’s:
Coutinho
Lingard
Eriksen
Maybe Chadli (but Eriksen far better choice)
Willian
A good city midfielder (if there was one)
Sanchez (if you have blind faith)
Payet got some tricky fixtures and a blank gw coming up so get someone like eriksen or Silva instead
I’d save it, you have potentially 6 players out for GW30 there, hardly a disaster but the saved one will come in handy especially as one of those moves will have to be to buy a keeper.
1FT 2.6m
Thinking Kane – Lukaku for a couple of GW until the blank and then bring him back?
Thanks
Lukaku is so boring and he only got 1 goal in has last 6 EPL appearances, it looks like a slippery slope to me. Let form dictate, not fixtures.
If you want a punt, and they are all punts and will rotate heavily or get injured within 2 minutes and some may even have blank GW’s:
Sturridge
Rashford (my fave)
Wickham
Welbeck
Iheanhacho
And Costa, but he blanks also in GW30, but a long term prospect he is.
You could almost do with Bench Boost here ripcurl aha! Strong XV for sure. Butland in goal for me.
I didn’t tip him but Kane could really make you regret that. If they didn’t play in GW30 then I’d be inclined to make that move but Lukaku’s blank puts me off. Still though… it’s a decent shout. Depends if you wanna take a risk.
I did look at the bench boost option
If you had to hand pick one striker this week given the opposition it’d be him. As gunners said earlier he’s even captaincy material on the basis of ‘Villa vs’ alone. The caveat is that Kane may outscore him regardless! If you feel it, do it. Him and Arnie are my two fears this week as I have neither. Yet.
If I put VVD in for Moreno who to bench? Or any other suggestions? Have 1.3 in the bank and 2 free transfers. Kind of want to turn Payet into Silva
Perhaps bench dier for VVD. Or you can just save
Smash, I like the Silva move. I did Willian for Payet because I couldn’t afford Silva.
Team good to go?
Correct bench?
Hennesey (sun)
Simpson (WBA) Bellerin (SWA) Targett (bou)
Mahrez Ozil Payet Firmino
Aguero Vardy (C) Kane
Gomes (mun), Alli*, Alder (whu), Cresswell (TOT)
0FT available
After Wednesday’s game vs Arsenal look at Andre Ayew’s next three games!
05 Mar 15:00 Gameweek 29 Norwich (H)
12 Mar 15:00 Gameweek 30 Bournemouth (A)
19 Mar 17:30 Gameweek 31 Aston Villa (H)
worth a three week punt to replace Payet IMO!
Indeed, him or Siggy defo worth a punt given those games for anyone chasing and needing to replace a non GW30 player. Wouldn’t take either until after Arsenal though, think that’s a clean sheet for the Gunners.
