Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
After a coma-inducingly long wait, a diminished set of games and a probably-disappointing score, gameweek 27 came and flew right over our heads… this gameweek, however, there’s no such time to waste; the clock’s ticking. It’s time to pick yourself a captain once again already!
Tuesday night deadlines are always fun, but can also be dangerous: they provide a platform for some of the hastiest of last-minute decision! Many of us don’t even wake up on time to mess up our teams before 11:45am on a Saturday but – unless you’ve had an all-day session like Silvers – this gameweek’s 6:45pm deadline means every FPL manager will be lingering over their laptop (or phone hidden under the dinner table) in anticipation. Ready to strike. Just a couple of quick clicks, the swipe of a finger, a half-hearted jab at ‘confirm your team’… your fate suddenly changed.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at our options now and try to stick with what we know best: logical, form-based, well-thought-out choices. After all, that’s worked brilliantly for us so far this season, hasn’t it?
Willian – away vs Norwich
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Well here’s a vaguely interesting one. I’ve put him first for that very reason: he’d probably get skimmed over otherwise. Most of us don’t own him so that may be the case anyway!
Perhaps we should own him, though, or at least be considering it. Chelsea now sit in the Top 4 at last (…of the Form Guide…) and are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games. Hiddink has raised their spirits and now they face the joint-leakiest defence in the League who have conceded 19 goals in their last 7 games, including multiple goals against relatively shite opposition such as Villa, Bournemouth and Liverpool – sorry – that was a bit harsh on The Cherries.
Willian is Chelsea’s leading scorer in FPL so far this season, having been involved in 13 goals and has grabbed 19 points in the last 2 gameweeks. I could’ve tipped Costa here instead, in fact his goal-involvement is more impressive than Willian’s at present, so by all means consider him if you have him. However, for this captaincy stunt, you need a reliable punt – and to be blunt – this Diego guy’s one hell of a…

Mesut Ozil – home vs Swansea
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Arsenal may be limping but Ozil has found new legs once more. He was in the ‘trusty old dog on his last chance’ category a few gameweeks ago but has since started delivering for us again: scores of 10, 8, 11 either away from home, against stern opposition, or both show that Mesut can (hopefully) now be trusted with the armband. Alexis Sanchez needs to take note!
Swansea have conceded in each of their last 5 games in the Prem and seemingly forgotten what it feels like to win. They’re no pushovers but you sense that another goal-and-assist masterclass is just around the corner. Ok, maybe just an assist, or perhaps even less: Arsenal have struggled against The Swans in recent seasons.
Still, it’s hard to believe there won’t be a fightback on Wednesday night (another positive for Ozil’s case: your captain on a Wednesday so you can sit back and relax the night before) and this game is at the Emirates, so the goals may well be flowing. Want a solid bet? Ozil offers a safe choice I feel.

Romelu Lukaku – away vs Aston Villa
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]It seems like there are growing similarities between Lukaku and Giroud. He may not have the hair, or indeed the sexy accent, but both of these players have scored a decent number of Premier League goals so far – with 16 and 12 respectively – yet get slagged off on a regular basis. Perhaps they should score more. Maybe they are too unreliable. If we had patience with them, though, then we’d probably be fine in the long run!
This week is as good as any for Romelu to deliver one of his trademark braces. That’s where the similarities above tend to end: Lukaku can score twice. Which, of course, is what you need in a striker that you choose to captain. It was 4-0 in the reverse fixture last year. Two goals from Barkley and Lukaku sealed the deal.
If you’ve kept faith in Lukaku then this could be the moment to make the others regret it.

Sergio Aguero – away vs Liverpool
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]I’ve put Aguero in because he’s always an option. He needs no introduction. It was he who assisted Fernandinho’s goal in the corresponding Cup match on Sunday. Sergio also saw at least two shots well-saved by Mignolet, one tipped onto the post, which could’ve equated to a 16 point haul on another (slightly more lucky) day – or *any* other day – one where Mignolet doesn’t decide to be a decent keeper for once.
Liverpool have conceded 6 goals in their last 3 Premier League games at Anfield so Aguero playing away from home shouldn’t worry you too much. He’s on penalty duty and may well be playing against Lucas at CB again. I’ll say no more.

Jamie Vardy – home vs West Brom
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Finally, the obvious choice, the one you go for if none of the others give you a particularly good feeling. That makes Vardy sound quite boring but, honestly, he really isn’t. Staggeringly, he’s been directly involved in 25 goals for Leicester so far, which is more than Aston Villa combined and only 2 shy of his opposition’s tally for the season. Once again, the penalty duty factor applies, which is why he now edges Mahrez for me.
This is a team who scored just 1 against Norwich at home last weekend… but also put 3 past Man City at the Etihad. Too unpredictable? Not really. Jamie’s produced in 21 of the 27 gameweeks thus far and 4 of those blanks came in one dry spell, back in late December, for Leicester as a whole.
There’s never been more to play for and Vardy’s pacy runs will be key to unlocking The Baggies’ backline. With over 50% ownership you ignore him at your peril.

Good luck everyone! We’re almost certainly going to need it.

Got 1 ft and 6m in the bank. Save ft or …?? Fucking sick, still. Getting worse again! I blame… someone! I blame… AMERICA!
Stanislas to Willian maybe? And for the weekend Payet to Silva?
Such a fucking headache.
How the hell have you ended up with 6.0 in the bank?! That’s practically my team and I’ve got 1.8  Anyway, well played
In that case I’d do Stan to Arnie and play him over Alli if it looks like he’ll sit this one out and then Silva for Payet looks gold for the weekend.
Tnx mate. Was considering that move.
Cookie wasn’t sold on Arnautovic. You’d pick him over ummm Willian?
I would for this week but over the next 2 you’d probably go William. Fact that Arnie plays in 30 probably swings it back to him. Covers you a bit for Payet and probably Ozil missing that one.
True, but will do Payet to Silva anyway. But you’re right. ^_^ Good move.
On reflection that is defo what I’d do. Arnie now, Silva at the weekend, wish I had those options in fact.
Already made the move before reading your last comment. Almost had a breakdown when I read : ‘On reflection…….’
Okay, move made. Time to hit the sack. Thank you for the help, Innit. Goodnight.
Same Raz, night mate, hope you feel better tomorrow
Hey guys,
Quick question, which one of these would you bench this GW,
1) Simpson WBA (H)
2) Dier WHU (A)
3) Azpilicueta NOR (A)
4) Monreal SWA (H)?
Thanks.
How dare you ask a question before answering mine?
And out of those 3, Dier. WHU is pretty awesome against top opposition, iirc. Especially, Payet.
Dier for sure.
Thanks both,
Dier it is then….
What’s up Raz? I read your unwell….
I’m fine mate. Just a bit of overacting. 😉
By the way, weren’t you Mancunian? Happy with the latest victory? ^_^
Haha Raz yep very happy indeed, love seeing youngsters come through and a victory over the Arsenal is always welcome…..
We still look pants mind you….
You must have an incredible memory!
Dier
Dier, but i doubt Leicester will keep a clean sheet either
WBA suddenly a superteam? 😉 Doubt it.
With Simpson back, Fuchsia healthy and Schlupp, I wonder who will be rotated.
was 3-2 last time, WB are pretty bad but I still think they can score
one of those teams everyone presumes will be an easy match
You lads putting a team article on tonight
Hi dean, no team article this midweek, should be one for Friday as usual. Had the meeting though and as it stands now this is what we are going with. No transfer done / needed, Vardy capo…
I wonder Init was there any love between the attendants dor a cheeky Payet capo? Spurs are do a loss somewhere.
The only other person who got a captain vote was Ozil.
Woll > Van Dijk? What’s going on here?
Not sure on that one NIN, will have to take a look, either is ok this time I suppose.
Big risk paying Woll ahead of Saints defence. 11 conceded in last 6 games for Stoke vs 2 for Saints, both against Chelsea. First Imbula, now Stoke defence over Saints… what is going on over there, eh?
Aguero –> Welbeck next week then? :hippo: 😉
Quick vote and VDV won, switch done, thanks NIN.
It’s a circus NIN, we didn’t press save last week and so the team we played wasn’t the one published!
Heh heh, seen that. Mito must be juicing up the tea again is he?
Guys Who would you bench among this front 8?
Ozil, Mahrez, Arnie, Alli, Payet
Kane, Aguero, Vardy
Leaning towards either Alli or Payet? But not sure who
Niloh, bench Ali as the word on the street is that he may be rested.
All sorted now I think. Needed a hit to get Kun in for Iggy so I’ve done Willian in for Payet. Thoughts on this lot???
not bad, although I would probably start Toby over Daniels?
Thanks Niloh, I was looking for someone to tip me in that direction
I have a free transfer and 1.0 in bank.
Give me some advice, please!
Firmino to Arny/Willian/Barkley
