Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
After a coma-inducingly long wait, a diminished set of games and a probably-disappointing score, gameweek 27 came and flew right over our heads… this gameweek, however, there’s no such time to waste; the clock’s ticking. It’s time to pick yourself a captain once again already!
Tuesday night deadlines are always fun, but can also be dangerous: they provide a platform for some of the hastiest of last-minute decision! Many of us don’t even wake up on time to mess up our teams before 11:45am on a Saturday but – unless you’ve had an all-day session like Silvers – this gameweek’s 6:45pm deadline means every FPL manager will be lingering over their laptop (or phone hidden under the dinner table) in anticipation. Ready to strike. Just a couple of quick clicks, the swipe of a finger, a half-hearted jab at ‘confirm your team’… your fate suddenly changed.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at our options now and try to stick with what we know best: logical, form-based, well-thought-out choices. After all, that’s worked brilliantly for us so far this season, hasn’t it?
Willian – away vs Norwich
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Well here’s a vaguely interesting one. I’ve put him first for that very reason: he’d probably get skimmed over otherwise. Most of us don’t own him so that may be the case anyway!
Perhaps we should own him, though, or at least be considering it. Chelsea now sit in the Top 4 at last (…of the Form Guide…) and are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games. Hiddink has raised their spirits and now they face the joint-leakiest defence in the League who have conceded 19 goals in their last 7 games, including multiple goals against relatively shite opposition such as Villa, Bournemouth and Liverpool – sorry – that was a bit harsh on The Cherries.
Willian is Chelsea’s leading scorer in FPL so far this season, having been involved in 13 goals and has grabbed 19 points in the last 2 gameweeks. I could’ve tipped Costa here instead, in fact his goal-involvement is more impressive than Willian’s at present, so by all means consider him if you have him. However, for this captaincy stunt, you need a reliable punt – and to be blunt – this Diego guy’s one hell of a…

Mesut Ozil – home vs Swansea
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Arsenal may be limping but Ozil has found new legs once more. He was in the ‘trusty old dog on his last chance’ category a few gameweeks ago but has since started delivering for us again: scores of 10, 8, 11 either away from home, against stern opposition, or both show that Mesut can (hopefully) now be trusted with the armband. Alexis Sanchez needs to take note!
Swansea have conceded in each of their last 5 games in the Prem and seemingly forgotten what it feels like to win. They’re no pushovers but you sense that another goal-and-assist masterclass is just around the corner. Ok, maybe just an assist, or perhaps even less: Arsenal have struggled against The Swans in recent seasons.
Still, it’s hard to believe there won’t be a fightback on Wednesday night (another positive for Ozil’s case: your captain on a Wednesday so you can sit back and relax the night before) and this game is at the Emirates, so the goals may well be flowing. Want a solid bet? Ozil offers a safe choice I feel.

Romelu Lukaku – away vs Aston Villa
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]It seems like there are growing similarities between Lukaku and Giroud. He may not have the hair, or indeed the sexy accent, but both of these players have scored a decent number of Premier League goals so far – with 16 and 12 respectively – yet get slagged off on a regular basis. Perhaps they should score more. Maybe they are too unreliable. If we had patience with them, though, then we’d probably be fine in the long run!
This week is as good as any for Romelu to deliver one of his trademark braces. That’s where the similarities above tend to end: Lukaku can score twice. Which, of course, is what you need in a striker that you choose to captain. It was 4-0 in the reverse fixture last year. Two goals from Barkley and Lukaku sealed the deal.
If you’ve kept faith in Lukaku then this could be the moment to make the others regret it.

Sergio Aguero – away vs Liverpool
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]I’ve put Aguero in because he’s always an option. He needs no introduction. It was he who assisted Fernandinho’s goal in the corresponding Cup match on Sunday. Sergio also saw at least two shots well-saved by Mignolet, one tipped onto the post, which could’ve equated to a 16 point haul on another (slightly more lucky) day – or *any* other day – one where Mignolet doesn’t decide to be a decent keeper for once.
Liverpool have conceded 6 goals in their last 3 Premier League games at Anfield so Aguero playing away from home shouldn’t worry you too much. He’s on penalty duty and may well be playing against Lucas at CB again. I’ll say no more.

Jamie Vardy – home vs West Brom
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Finally, the obvious choice, the one you go for if none of the others give you a particularly good feeling. That makes Vardy sound quite boring but, honestly, he really isn’t. Staggeringly, he’s been directly involved in 25 goals for Leicester so far, which is more than Aston Villa combined and only 2 shy of his opposition’s tally for the season. Once again, the penalty duty factor applies, which is why he now edges Mahrez for me.
This is a team who scored just 1 against Norwich at home last weekend… but also put 3 past Man City at the Etihad. Too unpredictable? Not really. Jamie’s produced in 21 of the 27 gameweeks thus far and 4 of those blanks came in one dry spell, back in late December, for Leicester as a whole.
There’s never been more to play for and Vardy’s pacy runs will be key to unlocking The Baggies’ backline. With over 50% ownership you ignore him at your peril.

i have 0.8m in the bank and no FT left.
Any suggestion regarding the te team, starting XI and cap would be very much appreciated.
That’s a really risky captaincy choice I would go with Arnautovic, starting xi looks good
Leave as is, team looks very strong. I might be the only one who says this, but i like your capo pick and can see why you’ve gone that way. Good luck!
Looks strong this week. I would change the captain pick but my picks are rubbish half the time anyway
If your chasing I like your Capo choice but if your ahead then there’s no need to take the risk. If you are ahead then Arnautovic, Aguero, Vardy or Ozil are my choices – in that order.
im playing against a team who has 10 similar players except cech, ivanovic, coutinho and van dijk, arnautovic … and my opponent has myhill, targett, azpilicueta, firmino and payet … should i go for this team ??
Moreover I gained 465k over last 3 gws .. so i think i should give a shot to top 100k
Good morning and a huge thank you to James for the captains run-down so soon after the previous Game-week. Bravo sir!
This team ….
Save FT tonight then Costa to Aguero followed the week after by Payet to Ozil (Arsenal cup game dependant)?
Thoughts team?
Morning GP. Last chance saloon for Alexis this week i reckon. Another crap performance and he’ll have to go – he’s way too expensive to be waiting on. Ozil in for him, if he is bad again, + Kun sounds good to me.
Agree NiN, if Alexis bombs this gw, think i’ll be bringing Silva in for him, all being well.
GP,
Does Ozil and Silva in for Sanchez and Payet work?
Gp I am not sure if you have seen this or not!
This will be interesting…
I would need to see / hear a lot more than this to believe that Chelsea will leave Costa on the bench.
Surely Costa starts and Pato gets a 20 min cameo
Sounds about right, a debut doesn’t necessarily mean a start. Costa will always be a worry when there’s a short turnover but i wouldn’t just take ESPN’s word for it. Best to hunt down the presser and see what Gus actually said.
May want to rethink the Captain, GP. Pato is to make his debut and Costa rested apparently. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/feb/29/alexandre-pato-chelsea-diego-costa
Thanks for all the comments guys.
The Costa news is a spanner in the nuts (never mind the works!) 😉 Consideration to Cost to Aguero tonight then must be given.
PP – financially, yeah those moves would work. Although it looks like now I MAY have a striker to find.
Costa may play this match and rested for Saturday match, if Pato starts and chelsea is winning comfortably I don’t see him coming to play and if Costa starts will be subbed around 60 and give Pato a chance either way he will have limited or no time unless Chelsea is loaing against NC
Hey all.
Need to start picking up the points… got to catch a 58 point gap on my league leader.
Team selection and captain all ok?
Fairly picks itself really, good luck
Cheers Nin,
Would I be crazy to consider Arnie with the arm band?
No not at all. I wouldn’t pick him myself but Newcastle (H) after a quick turnaround could be a very good shout.
Nin and given his double on the weekend…
I am tempted…
Many will be 😉
Morning all,
How am i looking for tonight?
subs alright?
i’ve got 1ft and 1.7itb
I would play Targett ahead of Woll. Maybe even bi Targett for a more reliable Saints defender.
cheers Nin, hasn’t Targett been deployed in midfield recently for saints. I thought with Forster in goal, Wolls spreads the risk of CS instead of Targett
It’s not really making much difference though. Even with the two recent assists Fonte and Van Dijk are outscoring him since he got back in the team, plus he’s not guaranteed to stay in the team either. I just don’t like him as a fantasy pick to be honest and wold be looking to sell, especially with blanks ahead.

apologies. Incorrect post. Team looks great.
Anyone capoing Aguero? Could have had a couple on Sunday & you’d expect City to be on a high and Pool to be feeling sorry for themselves for at least a few days.
He’s the top pick in our capo poll.
Oh good, bar the Newcastle game it hasn’t really paid off when I’ve chosen him but have a good feeling about this game!
Saying that, he’ll probably get rested for Bony now…
Doubtful when they play Liverpool away but he may get left out of the Villa game. Something tells me he’ll star both though and rest up during UCL next week seeing as they should have that tie wrapped up.
Aye the pool game is a must win to be fair so will be pretty much full strength.
Good to go?
Hennesey (sun)
Simpson (WBA) Bellerin (SWA) Targett (bou)
Mahrez Ozil Payet Firmino
Aguero Vardy (C) Kane
Gomes(mun), Alli*, Alder (whu), Cresswell (TOT)
mardeal
That is a fairly strong frontline which probably allows you to rest Alli. Pochettino has just said he is OK but he’ll be assessed again tomorrow and then they’ll decide.
