Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 4 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
If you captained Yaya Toure in Gameweek 1, Romelu Lukaku in Gameweek 2, Callum Wilson in Gameweek 3 or Riyad Mahrez in any of these weeks, congratulations! You are succeeding more than most. Some of us are holding on to Rooney’s “assist” in Gameweek 1 as the only time we got it sort of right.
So on to the next chance we have – and I’m writing this off the back of two 4 point captain shows – so you may want to look away now, stick your fingers in your ears and pretend you never caught sight of this.
I jest. Like the most optimistic (or sadistic) FPL players, I’m back for more. And this week I’m going to crack it.

My Five (actually seven):
Callum Wilson
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]There was a debate pre-season regarding the price of Wilson and his fellow promoted striker – Watford’s Troy Deeney. Each priced at £5.5mln, each playing in the Premier League after brilliant Championship seasons and each with claims for that difficult “third” striker slot. Well the Coventrian has made light work of finding his way to the top of the striker charts, even if it is at a very early stage. OK so his points were mainly hauled in one game at Upton Park where he bagged his first Premier League hat-trick but Wilson owners would happily have taken a goal a game at this stage so three in one, is of no concern.
So his backers or those purchasing him this week might consider that the armband goes to him – the man is in form after all and Bournemouth as a whole are playing some great passing football. They are very incisive and direct and a hallmark of their promotion-winning side from last season.
Leicester have started brilliantly but consider that they are yet to record a clean sheet and even Sunderland stuck two past them and you might just look twice at the Bournemouth penalty taker.
Although, as we’ll come to later, there are superstars with attractive fixtures this week, looking at Rooney, Aguero and Hazard all being two-pointers recently, maybe taking a chance on a lesser light might just be the way to go. And Wilson will hardly be short of confidence.
[divider_1px]
Riyad Mahrez
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]In the same match, the man of the season so far, Algerian Riyad Mahrez, will be aiming to take Charlie Daniels to the cleaners at Dean Court on Saturday.
Three matches, four goals and a clean sweep of all nine bonus points before him, has the winger as the top midfield point scorer. He has also stuck away the Foxes’ only penalty so far and would be lined up again one would assume, should another fall their way.
At the very least, this man should be in your squad, captaining him may take a bit of bottle but maybe that is the way to go. You could hardly be backing him at a better time.
[divider_1px]
Pedro
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]The Spaniard will find his way in to many teams this week and the good news is that his price should be protected until after the deadline. Many will see Hazard to Pedro and banking some £1.9mln as a worry free move and I have to agree. I think if both fit, Pedro might just match Hazard’s point tally this season. He introduced himself to the Blues’ fans with a goal and an assist in his first start to send Chelsea to their first victory of the season at The Hawthorns and send himself to the 3 bonus points – couldn’t have asked for more from his debut.
A home match against Crystal Palace won’t be easy but you would have to expect Chelsea should win even if it is to keep up with Manchester City (and Leicester). The Barcelona academy product has gone for a reported £21mln, which to me could well be the signing of the summer.
I’d add Diego Costa in here as well – Pedro could be the perfect supply line for the granddad of the Chelsea team. Costa scored his first double-digit haul in the West Brom match and that could be him off and running for the season.

Christian Benteke
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Many will argue that the Belgian is still awaiting his first ‘goal’ in front of the Kop due to the clear infringement of the offside rule which should have resulted in his goal being disallowed. Thankfully moral decisions don’t apply in the fantasy world and the £32.5mln summer signing managed to mark his Anfield debut with 9 fantasy points courtesy of his goal and the 3 bonus to leave Monday Night Captainers rejoicing! He also hit the crossbar in the second half so it could have been more.
Truthfully he should also have added another against Arsenal on Monday evening. Where the plaudits will go to Petr Cech for a fine save, Benteke shouldn’t have given him the chance of a save. What is encouraging, however, is the understanding being shown clearly between Benteke and Coutinho. One can see Benteke having many laid on for him by the Brazilian in the coming weeks especially in the matches at home where Liverpool will see lots of the ball. Next up are out-of-sorts West Ham so there is definite scope there for more goals.

Sergio Aguero
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Home game. Yep. Home to a promoted team. Yep. City playing well. Yep (three in three with +8 goal difference). Already scored this season. Yep.
All the signs are pointing to an Aguero Armband this weekend.
Depending where you are in the overall standings or your own private mini-league, you’ll know if you can take a chance by moving away from Aguero. Common sense tells you that those with him (28.2%) will make him their man so to either stay with the leaders or hold off those challengers, you really shouldn’t be looking any further than your top striker.
This is also the beginning of six decent fixtures for City, so I’d imagine many will be loading up on their players and it also makes sense to captain one of them being as they are in by far and away, the best attacking team in the league.
This leads me on nicely to David Silva, a differential of sorts owing to the expected Aguero love this weekend. Three assists, three clean sheets and two bonus points so far and he should/could have been on the score sheet at West Brom in Gameweek 1. The first goal is around the corner and could come this weekend. As usual, playing in between the lines of the opposition, the little Spaniard is never far from the attacking points. You could do a lot worse than side with him this weekend.

As usual, here are the traffic lights . . .
RED (Take a punt if you have him): Callum Wilson
AMBER (Proceed with caution): Christian Benteke
GREEN (If you have him, armband him): Sergio Aguero
A final thought:
This is the last Gameweek before both the transfer window closes and for the hiatus for international football so the next round of matches, Gameweek 5, isn’t until 12 September.
Usually this is the worst time to have a stinker of a Gameweek because you have what seems like an eternity to wait to get back on track. For those of you who have wildcarded, I’d imagine and hope your squad is in good enough shape to bank this week’s free transfer and have two to use come the return in GW5. For those still with the wildcard, then I should imagine many will be activated once this week’s deadline has passed to benefit from that two week period of tinkering and to take advantage of the transfer business still to be completed.
Triple Captain Chip
Just a quick word on the new feature this season. It pretty much does what it says on the tin and trebles your points for your captain on whichever game-week you choose to deploy it. We shall touch on this as and when we feel the opportunity presents itself to use it effectively but this in all likelihood is one to save for when we encounter double game-weeks later on in the season.
For those wishing to use it before such a double Gameweek, I’d imagine that Aguero at home to Watford is as enticing as a single match gets.
Whatever you do, go with your instinct and have a great Gameweek 4!
Enjoy your football.

Anyone thinking of triple captain aguero this week?
Nope
I would only use the triple chip in a Double Gameweek.
Yeah probably when Aguero has a double GW
IF…..Kun has a DGW!
Spot on Cookie, teams will need to get through at least 3 rounds of the FA cup before getting a DGW (Freak weather can’t be counted on that much now with modern pitches being what they are.)
I’m not even considering chips for he first half of the season, except the 1 WC.
I’ve decided to go with my WC for GW4…. didn’t really have a choice as my team have performed like a David Moyes team :oogle:
Big decisions have been made and this is what I have so far with the intention of playing the BENCH BOOST the following gameweek after the break.
Cech
Azpil-Kolorov-Cedric
Pedro-Mehrez-Yaya-Coutinho
Aguero- Wilson (c)-Vardy
Subs: Krull-Monreal-Redmond-Francis
Courtinho may have to go before GW5 when I play the boost because they are away to Man U. Any ideas are more than welcome
Using bench boost won’t be easy since there will be an International Break and we all know what that can mean for playtime of our players.
I personally prefer Bentekers over Coutinho and I think Mahrez is enough for Leicester attacking coverage, that’s just me though. Not sold on Cedric, just yet. Fear rotation with EL games, till now we have been on the lucky side of the coin, he didn’t play in Europa and he did in the EPL. But that luck with run out, I fear. Rest looks good.
Aaah yes, I’m also on Wilcard. HIGH FIVE Walter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Raziel
I know, the international break is always a worry, I’m going with Coutinho because I watched the Arsenal game and he looked as if he could probably get more goals than Benteke ??? I’ll rotate Cedric with Monreal, again I watch him against Pool and he got into some good forward positions and could have got a couple of assists. I may consider changing Vardy and possibly go with Diouf… I have 0.9m itb. Thanks for the advice.
Lol, more goals than Benteke? Benteke had real big chances in that game, from what I saw. I was fixing my pc though so I only saw bits and pieces.
I went with Wilson as third striker (Benteke my second), he is on penalty’s and has great fixtures. Diouf also has decent run of fixtures though, anyway the fact Wilson scored 3 away from home says a lot about the player, imho. Diouf probalby is the safer option. If you have Mahrez and Wilson I would def. go with Diouf as third striker.
Which players do you have in your team just for the rises? And why is your team not linked?
I think Benteke looked awesome in that game. You see the difference with a so so striker like Giroud. If Wally or Bentekers started in Girouds position Arsenal would’ve won that game, no doubt.
On that note, I don’t give Pool enough credit. They 0wned Arsenal in the first half. At the start of hte season I tipped Arsenal, but even with an almost fit squad they can’t pull off proper results. I don’t see them fighting for the title.
Aaah yes, one more thing on Benteke. I have a feeling he will be big game player for them. His aim was just off and Cech made a few superb saves but I think with a bit more luck Benteke would’ve bagged at least 1 goal. He really makes this side better.
twinkle
That’s a strong lot for BENCH BOOST.
Ayew at Watford for that week?
That’s a good shout GP… will put him on my possibles list. Cheers
Twinkle – I think you’ve overspent in defence/GK’s, limiting your attacking options. A few downgrades there and spend the savings on better attackers, for me.
Yea NIN I know I have…. but at the moment I’m really undecided about strikers and more sure about defenders who can score good points…. Wilson and Aguero are currently must haves I think! Third striker will be when things have settled down a bit so relying more on the mids to get the points…. does that make sense or am I just fecking crazy? :bouncy-balls:
Your call how you balance things out. You’re leaving yourself with a lot of transfers to make to upgrade your attacking players though. I’d rather focus a WC squad on getting a monster attack + solid defence, rather than the other way around.
Oxford likeability to play?
harry
Good chance he won’t I think. Based on a combination of recent injury and lack of big game experience. Even if he does, a clean sheet seems unlikely given the current situation with West Ham’s defence.
Cheers. -8 will have to be taken then
Great stuff GP, thanks for this.
Aguero will be the most popular choice for sure so it’s not easy to validate other candidates.
Like you, i’ve only had a dodgy Rooney assist soo far to count. I could really do with a goal scoring captain this week.
When your captain scores will you take a photek?
Come on !
Focus, Raz :winktongue:
What’s wrong GP? It’s key to capture the happy moments in your life.
Raziel
I don’t understand your question… ‘why is my team not linked?’ And whats’s ‘having a player in the team just for rises?’ I’m fairly new to this, played last season but didn’t really make an effort or concentrate… I blame the wine but it was probably because I was crap. Benteke or Coutinho… Benteke had a sitter and failed, Coutinho had several good chances and hit the bar. Liverpool fan are you Raz? :satansmoking:
As you see my name is marked in red letters, yours is in black. You can link your team and/or history page so people can check what you’ve been working with and what you did in the past. If you click on my name you will be linked to my history page (of this season) and you can also see how I failed in the past.
Quite simple, go all the way down on this page -) click on profile/change password -) copy your FPL history page url (mine is this: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/7729/history/) -) paste that url onto website -) save these settings and you’re done (team should be linked within a few minutes).
As a Dutchie I can’t say I support one or the other since I just didn’t grow up in England, it’s not the same. I have a tendency to support the underdog though and these days Liverpool is that always. Was also quite sad they didn’t win it 2 season ago, it was theirs.
Aaah yes, copy paste your url, not mine. Only showed it so you know what you have to link.
Who are you guys going with this week as capt?
CapKun.
Hey guys. Got a question for you regarding the WC.
If you activate your WC and confirm a team are you able to continue tinkering at a later date?
The reason I ask is regarding price rises etc. So if you keep a steady eye on potential rises / drops, tinker the team so that you gain in total value and then tinker again a few days later to perhaps gain total value again or avoid losing TV etc. Or is this not possible? The reason is that with the Int break after this game week I was looking at activating WC as soon as the deadline passes and then attempting to take advantage of any price increases.
That’s not the best description of what I mean but I think you get it.
Thanks for any help.
You have unlimited transfers until the next deadline. It’s also possible to lose money on players as well as gain, so be careful with that one. I’ve made that mistake before and ended up not being able to afford the team i was trying to build funds for. Nightmare.
So for the two weeks during IB you can basically play a price game in the hope that certain players rise .2 and swap out players that are going to go down for more steadily priced players?
If you were unable to afford the team that you were trying to get it would only take putting in the players that you wanted back in, at a lower price than the one you swapped him out at right?
Soz only my 2nd season and screwed my WC last season by not understanding properly.
Thanks again
Correct, Just be careful with it, that’s all i’m saying. Just keep in mind that for every 0.2m rise, it’s 0.1m profit. Selling on a player you have who has risen 0.2m and then buying him back will cost you 0.1m.
Great. Thanks NIN
ohyesali – you can tinker your brains out. Once you hit that WC button you can make whatever transfers you want until that GW deadline expires.
In that situation, you may activate it after GW4 deadline has passed and you can tinker for two weeks!! Happy tinkering!
Hi all
Appreciate your thoughts.
Nightmare start. Wildcard used last week. Still mediocre performance. Team attached. Value is £101.2m.
My view is I need to save FT this week and wait it out, hoping for the tide to turn. Am I right?
hopefully this image is clearer!
Team looks solid, you should come good. Keep the faith. A lot of people have sucked.
Oooh, I would do either Yaya or Silva to Pedro. Chelsea is coming good, as we saw in their last game.
geo1983 – The image you posted is too small mate, i’m actually guessing what players you have here…
Haha, there you go! United attack is a worry. Depay -> Chadli maybe?
