Captain’s Picks Double Game-week 37 – FPL Fantasy Football Premier League
So here I sit thinking of what to write. The Mrs is pumping some girly music in the background and has Titanic on the tube. This I promise you though, none of that feminine crap will affect this article as I start Rolling in the Deep and look at the options for Capo. With it so near the end of the season, getting this captaincy right could prove to be better than running naked in a rainstorm, not that I ever have. It seems Rooney is the top candidate for this game-week, but if you are like me then you change your mind like a girl changes clothes. That being the case we must address other possibilities for those that can’t put a ring on it (commit) and suffer from a permanent state of second-guessingness. So let’s chat about whom also might be cooler than skin tight jeans this week, because there are other players who demand our attention. Oh baby, baby, so without further ado let’s see who will be your one and only, until you leave him at the alter one minute before the deadline.

Wayne Rooney
If you are tired of being left with a broken heart in this game than this seems like the safest candidate for this double. Four double-digit games in his last seven starts that include his seven goals, one assist and twelve bonus points is a great precedent. Those stats above and his most recent output will easily make him king of the world for this game-week. Sunderland has 1 clean sheet in their last 8 and it took playing Cardiff for them to accomplish that. They allow 18.9 shots per game on their travels and considering that United managed 25 shots last week under their new “Chosen One”, to expect about 20 attempts on goal for United seems reasonable. Hull City, their second opponent in the game-week, has given up 8 goals in their last 3 matches when you include the FA cup semi. Rooney averages 3.5 SPG which is third highest in the EPL and his first game with Giggs produced double that amount with 7. The new appointment of the manager and his fixtures certainly make him as close to a can’t miss as there is. So tell me Wayne, are you going to justify my love?

Juan Mata
Mata is perhaps the riskiest of the main candidates because of the question surrounding his minutes. But if his last game is any indication then what the hell does that matter? He managed 3 shots, all on target and 3 passes that led to a shot for one of his mates in just a half hour of game time. Almost forgot to mention that he also scored twice in those 30 minutes just for good measure. During his time on the pitch vs Norwich he looked very lively, when he wasn’t parked in the patch of grass 2 yards in front of the keeper scoring goals. He was poaching in such a way that even Dzeko must have been impressed. Unlike Edin though, Mata is no paaaarty trick; he has 3 double-digit games in his last 4 and is averaging 11.5 PPG over those fixtures. Which is the reason I fell in love with San Mata y le dije “TE AMO” Obviously any stat that applies to Rooney in terms of their opposition for this upcoming week can also be applied to Juan. However the apparent welcoming of RVP at some point in the next couple of days, might pose a problem for our United duo, as surely they will need to vacate the space reserved for the Dutch Diva.

Yaya Toure
Yaya brings the Pain! Would be apt words to describe the season the Ivorian is having… or it could simply be used to describe his stint on the pitch vs Palace. Possibly the best midfielder in the world, is there anything this man can’t do? Dropping an impressive 14 points in his first game back from the major/minor injury he suffered, he once again let us know that he is a force to be dealt with.19 goals for the season has him top among all mids and only puts him behind S&S overall. This tally places him 2 behind Bale’s 21 from last season, which when you consider that Yaya sits deep a good portion of the time and takes less than half the shots, is all the more amazing. If fit enough for this double and frankly unlike many he doesn’t need to be fully fit, he will leave a mark. One must also consider that he has 13 clean sheets and 19 additional points on goals that are unattainable for a forward, because of the worth of his goals being 5. When you add these together it gives us 32 more points or the equivalent of 8 more goals for a player who plays up top to match him. When he faced his opponents for this double game-week earlier in the season he totaled 16 points. When you take into consideration that Everton play an open style and Villa’s goal enjoys being stuffed one would think that Yaya can score very well. Every time anyone doubts him they are either one of two things a masochist or currently taking a bottle of stupid pills. Luckily I ran out!

Sergio Aguero
His 3.7 shots per game is second most in EPL only to Luis Suarez. Kun carries some danger in this double because one can’t be sure how Pelligrini will handle him. Judging by his progression in minutes one would think he is ready to start both, even if full fitness is not quite there yet. He would be a pick based on potential more than recent results. His explosiveness is not in question as he can definitely carve up a team in a hurry, in particular when City is clicking. I must confess, I still believe and even though he can hit us with a fatal kiss of death because of his tendency for injuries; he can also put up 15 points in 20 minutes of action. Am I being conned by the ultimate managizer (fpl playboy) being sucked in again into his web of deceit and unforgivable returns? Could be, with him you never know because he might be the devil or he might be the angel on our teams any given week. Many of us have taken a hit to bring him in only to be left empty handed, than when we refuse to take a hit for him he explodes and leaves us in a puddle of tears. This to some degree is what we face when we captain him, you just never know. So proceed with caution if you pick him because he can be more unpredictable than Gervinho’s barber.

Connor Wickham
5 goals and 1 assist with a total of 37 points in the last 3 will get anyone on here. This boy is on fire right now, he is hotter than a fantasy. He had 6 shots vs Cardiff and was able to put two of them away. If he can score on City & Chelsea, the two best defences, while playing away than he can score on anyone. Is it possible that the spirit of Bobby Gurney has taken over his body? Heck a month ago he was backing up Altidore, that’s almost as bad as being a back-up to Fellaini. From what I can tell the Wickmeister can move very quickly and knowing that he probably will play two statues for CBs (Frozen Rio & Vidic) at Old Trafford and host West Brom there is no reason to feel he can’t grab a couple of goals. Scary isn’t it? The thought of captaining the unknown, something new that may or may not put out. Just think of it this way, it be like dating a virgin. So if you opt for the un-thinkable just make sure you go slow and don’t put pressure on him as you don’t want to scare him off like you did all the significant others in your life.

Great articles al always lads – thanks!
Great stuff Mito, thank you!! That Rooney Titanic picture is boss.
It’s going to be a close call between Toure and Rooney for me this week, but right now I’m leaning toward the white Pele. Who do you think you’ll be going with for captain guys?
Hey Red, probably Rooney for me too unless Giggs is confident that RvP plays, which could throw a spanner in the works!
Thanks Cookie. I was thinking about that too, United never looked as dangerous with RVP, Rooney, and Mata on the field at the same time. I’m really hoping he won’t be ready tbh!
+1 the pic is helarious!!
Afternoon guys, help with this weeks transfers please! Need to get the next couple of GWs spot on!
Mannone (Ruddy)
Coleman Ivanovic Demichelles Davies Shaw
Mata Ramsey Eriksen Sterling Mutch
Suarez Aguero Giroud
1 FT and 2.6 in the bank.
So after innit’s section in the fixture article about hits, I’m quite willing to take one. I was thinking of getting Rooney for Giroud, though I need to raise 0.6 (and I’m a bit hesitant since Giroud has two easy fixtures and he just got 9)! The three players I’m not playing this week or next are Ruddy, Shaw, and Mutch, the most expensive of which is Ruddy so I’ll probably downgrade him to Gazzaniga or something. How does it sound?
How much is Coleman for you? Maybe sell him to a United defender to finance the Rooney move. You will get two DGW players.
In the last GW play Demi, Ivanovic and one of Davies/Shaw at the back?
I was going to write some advice, but this seems like better advice imo so I’m just going to +1 it!!
I personally do still feel a little weary of selling Coleman, but it makes sense if you can sell him for somone with two games (that’s If there’s someone in the price range).
Otherwise, ruddy should be good if you’re not going to play him!
Yea.. taking a hit for a transfer for a guy you have no intention of playing is not a great move for end of the season IMO.
Now it’s all about maximisation of points. I wasn’t going to play Coleman last two GW’s so I sold him. I had bought him at 5 and sold at 7. Pocketed a cool million
Well, last week I got stones, mata and Rooney for fonte, silva and lukaku last week for a minus 8 which didn’t go so badly!!
I didn’t intend to play stones, but in the end I did anyway…
But now it is about getting the most points – if there’s anytime to not go for a long term transfer its now!!!
There isn’t a long term for a transfer!
IMO Chelsea, Sunderland, City, Pool, Totties have good fixtures GW38.. so getting a City or Sunderland man gives one the better of the double and a good fixture in 38.
United are good as they have immense home fixtures this GW.. and Giggs has taken the shackles off their play.
So United, City, Sunderland. I don’t see anyone in any other team worth the hit. The only one that scares me though is Ramsey. I stupidly bought Podolski instead as Arsenal cover. Regretting that now.
+2
I’ve had Coleman since day 1 and finally sold him this week to fund moves for Mata and Yaya. I went with a budget Sunderland defender as I needed the cash.
Thank you for the replies you guys (that rhymes). Does it make sense to do Giroud >> Rooney and Shaw >> Baker (and then play him over Eriksen, for a 5-2-3 formation)?
Hey Veer, I’d say Giroud > Rooney works, not sure I’d play 5 at the back even with another dgw defender. I’m keeping Suarez too!
so what other transfer should i do to fund giroud > Rooney? I have to sell shaw or mutch
I’ve Wouldn’t transfer out Giroud for Rooney maybe transfer out Suarez ..!!! – I’ve think Giroud could score big this week then maybe transfer out Rooney in GW 38 for Suarez
thanks for the reply Jeet, but Liverpool probably need to win their last 2 games for a chance in the title race, and Suarez is going for the scoring records! Also, I would have to buy Suarez back for 1.2 more than I sold him for!
Hi guys my team is…
Mannone, Adrian
Coleman, Chester, Shaw, Collins, Ward
Barkley, Puncheon, Gerrard, Mata, Ramsey
Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku.
I want to get rid of Lukaku/ Sturrdige. Who should I go for? Aguero or Rooney? Cheers
I think lukaku as Sturridge has something to play for, but many are trying to get Rooney Suarez and aguero for this week. Sturridge could be a good differencial though… I’d get Rooney as he’s in better form and he’s cheaper.
I think I’d look at a way to get in yaya too this week maybe for Gerard?
You could even sell one of your defenders to make finds if you think Stevie g will score this week (or next).
Sturridge>Rooney
Lukaku > Rooney plus Liverpool are at Home vs Newcastle in GW 38 fighting for the title !!
Ok gang, so I’ve worked up a few transfer options and would love your feedback.
1- Lukaku/Barkley > Dzeko/Mata (-4)
2- Lukaku/Bacuna > Wickham/Yaya (-4)
3- Lukaku/Barkley > Amalfitano/Aguero (-4)
4- Lukaku/Lallana/Barkley > Wickham/Yaya/Mata (-8)
Mannone (Boruc)
Coleman – Zab – Azpi (Bruce, Olsson)
Eriksen – Ramsey – Lallana – Barkley (Bacuna)
Lukaku – Rooney – Suarez
1 FT, 3.3 in bank
I think option 3 is definetly the best option, I feel Aguero could really explode this week and I wish I had enough in the bank to buy Amilfitano (0.2 short). Btw, could I have some help on 9.2?
4 – For Me I’ve think Yaya & Mata are must have for the DGW plus Wickham is on Fire !!!
+1
It between 2 and 3 for me. Id go for 2, but not quite sure.
Thanks guys. Of course 3 different answers!! I’m seriously chasing in my league so I’m seriously considering #4…. :what:
Colriles – I would go for #4. Those players could easily get you those 8 points back.
+1 for #4, seems the best option for me.
#4 for me Colriles. I might just bring in the same 3 guys and what the hell, I might throw in another hit for good measure.
That’s the spirit Mito. I’d expect nothing less!
To keep Suarez, or not to keep Suarez, that is the question;
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The goals and points of an outrageous talent
Or to take Wickham instead against unstable opposition,
And by opposing, lose my mini leagues?
