Captain’s Picks Double Game-week 37 – FPL Fantasy Football Premier League
So here I sit thinking of what to write. The Mrs is pumping some girly music in the background and has Titanic on the tube. This I promise you though, none of that feminine crap will affect this article as I start Rolling in the Deep and look at the options for Capo. With it so near the end of the season, getting this captaincy right could prove to be better than running naked in a rainstorm, not that I ever have. It seems Rooney is the top candidate for this game-week, but if you are like me then you change your mind like a girl changes clothes. That being the case we must address other possibilities for those that can’t put a ring on it (commit) and suffer from a permanent state of second-guessingness. So let’s chat about whom also might be cooler than skin tight jeans this week, because there are other players who demand our attention. Oh baby, baby, so without further ado let’s see who will be your one and only, until you leave him at the alter one minute before the deadline.

Wayne Rooney
If you are tired of being left with a broken heart in this game than this seems like the safest candidate for this double. Four double-digit games in his last seven starts that include his seven goals, one assist and twelve bonus points is a great precedent. Those stats above and his most recent output will easily make him king of the world for this game-week. Sunderland has 1 clean sheet in their last 8 and it took playing Cardiff for them to accomplish that. They allow 18.9 shots per game on their travels and considering that United managed 25 shots last week under their new “Chosen One”, to expect about 20 attempts on goal for United seems reasonable. Hull City, their second opponent in the game-week, has given up 8 goals in their last 3 matches when you include the FA cup semi. Rooney averages 3.5 SPG which is third highest in the EPL and his first game with Giggs produced double that amount with 7. The new appointment of the manager and his fixtures certainly make him as close to a can’t miss as there is. So tell me Wayne, are you going to justify my love?

Juan Mata
Mata is perhaps the riskiest of the main candidates because of the question surrounding his minutes. But if his last game is any indication then what the hell does that matter? He managed 3 shots, all on target and 3 passes that led to a shot for one of his mates in just a half hour of game time. Almost forgot to mention that he also scored twice in those 30 minutes just for good measure. During his time on the pitch vs Norwich he looked very lively, when he wasn’t parked in the patch of grass 2 yards in front of the keeper scoring goals. He was poaching in such a way that even Dzeko must have been impressed. Unlike Edin though, Mata is no paaaarty trick; he has 3 double-digit games in his last 4 and is averaging 11.5 PPG over those fixtures. Which is the reason I fell in love with San Mata y le dije “TE AMO” Obviously any stat that applies to Rooney in terms of their opposition for this upcoming week can also be applied to Juan. However the apparent welcoming of RVP at some point in the next couple of days, might pose a problem for our United duo, as surely they will need to vacate the space reserved for the Dutch Diva.

Yaya Toure
Yaya brings the Pain! Would be apt words to describe the season the Ivorian is having… or it could simply be used to describe his stint on the pitch vs Palace. Possibly the best midfielder in the world, is there anything this man can’t do? Dropping an impressive 14 points in his first game back from the major/minor injury he suffered, he once again let us know that he is a force to be dealt with.19 goals for the season has him top among all mids and only puts him behind S&S overall. This tally places him 2 behind Bale’s 21 from last season, which when you consider that Yaya sits deep a good portion of the time and takes less than half the shots, is all the more amazing. If fit enough for this double and frankly unlike many he doesn’t need to be fully fit, he will leave a mark. One must also consider that he has 13 clean sheets and 19 additional points on goals that are unattainable for a forward, because of the worth of his goals being 5. When you add these together it gives us 32 more points or the equivalent of 8 more goals for a player who plays up top to match him. When he faced his opponents for this double game-week earlier in the season he totaled 16 points. When you take into consideration that Everton play an open style and Villa’s goal enjoys being stuffed one would think that Yaya can score very well. Every time anyone doubts him they are either one of two things a masochist or currently taking a bottle of stupid pills. Luckily I ran out!

Sergio Aguero
His 3.7 shots per game is second most in EPL only to Luis Suarez. Kun carries some danger in this double because one can’t be sure how Pelligrini will handle him. Judging by his progression in minutes one would think he is ready to start both, even if full fitness is not quite there yet. He would be a pick based on potential more than recent results. His explosiveness is not in question as he can definitely carve up a team in a hurry, in particular when City is clicking. I must confess, I still believe and even though he can hit us with a fatal kiss of death because of his tendency for injuries; he can also put up 15 points in 20 minutes of action. Am I being conned by the ultimate managizer (fpl playboy) being sucked in again into his web of deceit and unforgivable returns? Could be, with him you never know because he might be the devil or he might be the angel on our teams any given week. Many of us have taken a hit to bring him in only to be left empty handed, than when we refuse to take a hit for him he explodes and leaves us in a puddle of tears. This to some degree is what we face when we captain him, you just never know. So proceed with caution if you pick him because he can be more unpredictable than Gervinho’s barber.

Connor Wickham
5 goals and 1 assist with a total of 37 points in the last 3 will get anyone on here. This boy is on fire right now, he is hotter than a fantasy. He had 6 shots vs Cardiff and was able to put two of them away. If he can score on City & Chelsea, the two best defences, while playing away than he can score on anyone. Is it possible that the spirit of Bobby Gurney has taken over his body? Heck a month ago he was backing up Altidore, that’s almost as bad as being a back-up to Fellaini. From what I can tell the Wickmeister can move very quickly and knowing that he probably will play two statues for CBs (Frozen Rio & Vidic) at Old Trafford and host West Brom there is no reason to feel he can’t grab a couple of goals. Scary isn’t it? The thought of captaining the unknown, something new that may or may not put out. Just think of it this way, it be like dating a virgin. So if you opt for the un-thinkable just make sure you go slow and don’t put pressure on him as you don’t want to scare him off like you did all the significant others in your life.

Adidas is in pole position to secure what is expected to be a landmark kit deal with Manchester United worth a staggering £600 million, Goal understands.
Hello people how is everyone doing? I see hits are in style, about time all of you realized I was right all along. 😉
Ive always agreed with that philosophy as well Mito, afternoon!! Both the last 2 weeks ive taken -8 point hits it just makes it more fun!! Ive no idea what im going to do this weekend, really cant make my mind up about Wickham,he may be on fire but is he worth a 6 point hit (-2 plus -4) to get Suarez out and then back in for GW38 ?!?!?!?! I don’t get stuck for ideas v often but this one has got me stumped!!
Peaky if I decide to sell Suarez, I am not buying him back. Considering the fixtures, it would appear that taking a double hit for Wickham seems a bit too much.
Hmmm I agree,Liverpool to win league have to go goal crazy and im sure they’ll not hold back which leaves me v reluctant to sell Suarez for anyone! Home v Newcastle with 8 or so goals to make up on goal difference will be one hell of a game!!
Hi Peaky.
For me I will be playing Roo Kun and Suarez up top this GW.
Then in GW38 I get Sturridge in for Roo for the goal fest
That was my plan Horse cos by then RVP will be back and it will defo affect Rooneys positioning and point scoring!! Really unsure this week, with a 4 pointer I can get 7 DGWers, will that be enough do u reckon???
Personally I think Cahill, Ramsey and Suarez have good fixtures in 37 and 38 and should pick up points for you. Whether you can get more points getting rid of them I don’t know.
Looking at your team getting YYT and a Man United defender for a 4 pointer makes sense to me.
But if you fancy a gamble. Go for it
Already pencilled in Horse! Watched arsenal game at weekend and Ramsey looked good BUT do you think his points tally will be reduced from before by everyone (bar wally and ox) being back from injury and therefore the points being shared out a bit more?!?!
Peaky I’m weighing up the Ramsey situation as well. My fear is that if they secure 4th will he and a bunch of other key players get GW38 off in prep for the Cup Final? I have to sell either him or Erik this week for Yaya.
Good question Peaky.
I don’t know to be honest.
I missed the Arsenal match due to work.
It may be the case that Arsenal create more chances which Ramsey can benefit from.
How advanced a role did he play?
Definitely innit not even thought of that! Also v worried about Cahill if Chelsea win tonight! I mean Mourinho does realise they cant (ok mathematically they can but forget that!) actually win the league from that position and will therefore will rest players in EPL???
From what I saw Horse there seemed to be 4-5 players in front or on a level par with him,in fact I posted my concern on here at half time because of how things were panning out!
That’s good thinking Innit.
I can see that happening.
Mind you I can see Wenger resting his key players for the cup final.
Ha ha ha
Right I am going to get some dinner before the Chelsea match.
Hey Mito, still trying to decide what moves to make. I want to bring in Yaya and Mata, but that would mean downgrading Suarez to fund them both. And I guess you were haha although they are justified considering it is a double gameweek.
In the same boat Josh. Yaya, Mata and Wickham are in my plans and possibly even Kompany. I haven’t taken a -12 all season, what the hell.
Go for it, you know you want to 😉
Bit stuck on my transfers for this week. I’m very willing to take a hit or two but I can’t really see any obvious transfers to make apart from my planned Coleman to Evra.
My team:
Mannone
Azpi, Sagna, Coleman
Yaya, Ramsey, Eriksen, Mata
Aguero, Suarez, Rooney
Subs: Boruc, Ward, Stones, Jedinak
I would have 0 FT and £1.4m in the bank after doing Coleman to Evra.
Any advice? Is it best to leave it at that or should I make another transfer?
Thanks
I think you should be good with just doing that move. That’s a great front 7.
Thanks Josh.
You got the 4 main ones Bihom. Roon, Kun, Yaya and Mata. Anyone from there on is a gamble, so to me it depends what you are playing for. I am ok in my ML and can afford to take risks, but not sure what the situation is for you.
Just trying to hold a 30 point ML lead against a rival with a very similar team. Happy to play it safe and boring
bihom if safe and boring sees you over the line in that ML then safe and boring it must be. The record books will say you won that’s all that matters
Cheers.
wow..thanks for the article Mito..it was excellent to know I had 4 of those players..lol!
I already make early transfer which I did in last saturday for -8 hits for Puncheon –> Amalfitano, Gerrard –> Hazard & Suarez –> RVP due to I think its time for all out and end my first season playing FPL with a bang! lol! and thanks to you guys I manage to get pretty decent points even though I only started in GW2..so I just need to know if my current team should be enough to storm this DGW..
Mannone*
Zabaleta* – Cahill – Rosenior*
Amalfitano* – Yaya Toure* – Hazard – Mata*
Rooney* – Aguero* – RVP*
0 FT & 0.1 in the bank.
Thank you in advance..cheers!
oops! I forgot this one..Bench: Marshall, Eriksen, Ward, Distin
Your team looks good and you have quite a few DGW players. I’m just not sure about RVP since he has’t even been confirmed fit. Even if he is, will he start both games to warrant his huge price tag? I don’t think so. You probably would have been better off getting Dzeko or Wickham or just leaving Suarez there.
well..first of all, I already had 3 City players and due to everybody already had Rooney & Aguero plus with Wickham as well so I think what the heck..I try to push my luck for this DGW with RVP but I’m not so sure whether should I put the armband on him or not..btw, thanks josh!
This is an interesting team and I really like it. Quite different from all the template ones.
Question marks over RVP and Hazard. We’ll see how Hazard does against Atletico though.
The B..yes, exactly!!! lol..thanks man..
NeCroN you put Mito to shame – 172 points in hits including this weeks! Wow!
hahaha! thanks init..I take it as compliment..LoL! :hippo:
Adam, 192 in hits last season. So I might have taken it easy this season, but I am still well respected in the hit community.
Just incase TJ aint here!! 😉
Atletico XI to play Chelsea: Courtois; Torres, Miranda, Godin, Luis, Cardoso, Suarez, Koke, Arda Turan, Adrian, Diego Costa.
