Captains Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 1 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
Welcome to the first captains article of the season!
The Premier League has finally returned, and while many of you have probably come pretty close to a settled squad by now, you also need to select a captain to help you start off your season with a good score. Well, that’s what we are here for. Whether that’s double points or treble will depend on whether you take advantage of the new ‘Triple Captain’ chip but more on that later. So without further ado, let’s get right to it and look at the best captaincy options for Game-week 1.

[/one_half]Eden Hazard
Chelsea may have lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield, but expect Mourinho and his players to shrug off that result and start the season strongly. Chelsea play Swansea at home in their opening fixture, a match that ended 4-2 last season, while Chelsea won 5-0 in the away match. In other words, Chelsea enjoy playing against the Swans, and while Hazard scored none of the goals against them last season, he has been impressive in pre-season and should continue that form into the opening matches of the Premier League. As Costa struggles with his fitness and has been poor in pre-season, the responsibility for the offense falls on Hazard, and he can easily flourish under such a responsibility. He will probably be the most popular captain choice this game-week, and rightly so.

[/one_half]Wayne Rooney
United begin the season with a home match against Tottenham, who have played Real Madrid in Munchen this evening and then will play either Milan or Bayern on Wednesday – three days before the season opens and having taken a squad consisting mainly of their preferred starters who you’d imagine will at least feel some fatigue. Typically, United win this matchup, and while United have bought well and strengthened their squad, Tottenham have been a bit more anonymous in the transfer market. The additions of Schweinsteiger, and Schneiderlin should boost United’s midfield platform and allow the likes of Mata and Depay to concentrate on creating more opportunities for Rooney. While he had his weakest FPL season last season, he looks to start the season in his natural striking position and should flourish in his preferred role.

[/one_half]Raheem Sterling
City have not been overly impressive in pre-season, conceding 4 goals to both Real Madrid and Stuttgart. They face West Bromwich at The Hawthorns in the first match of the season, and while City have a tendency to struggle against this kind of team, they are much stronger on paper and should be able to get a comfortable win if they play up to their attacking potential. If there has been one light in City’s pre-season, it has been Raheem Sterling, who has scored 3 goals and gotten 4 assists. Pellegrini will certainly look to his dribbling and pace to create havoc in WBA’s defence, and Sterling could be employed either as an attacking midfielder or up top. Expect him to be among the points this game-week.

[/one_half]Theo Walcott
While no-one can say for sure what Walcott’s role is in the Arsenal team, it is difficult to not see him starting as long as Sanchez is not available for contention. As with Sterling, Walcott’s pace and dribbling will cause problems for West Ham’s defence, hence Wenger could play him up top rather than on the wing. He started as a striker against Chelsea in the Community Shield, and while he was subbed off without any goals or assists, that was against arguably the best defence in the Premier League – this is against a West Ham team that struggles to repel the minnows of the Europa League’s early stages. Hence, Walcott could easily get an explosive score if he gets enough playing time this round.

[/one_half]Graziano Pelle
As the 4th highest scoring striker last season, 8.0 might seem like a bargain. However, many will remember that he started the season strong, but then became more and more invisible as the season went on. He still managed 12 goals and 6 assists, and has been impressive in pre-season. Southampton play away to Newcastle, a team that may or may not improve under a new manager. Even if they do improve Southampton should still be the better team, and if Pelle can carry his pre-season form into the Premier League, he could start the season with an impressive performance against Newcastle. Obviously, Pelle should be seen as more of a punt compared to the rest of the players.

Triple Captain Chip
Just a quick word on the new feature this season. It pretty much does what it says on the tin and trebles your points for your captain on whichever game-week you choose to deploy it. We shall touch on this as and when we feel the opportunity presents itself to use it effectively but this in all likelihood is one to save for when we encounter double game-weeks later on in the season.

Walcott and Alder or Mane and Azpi?
How about Walcott, Mane, Alder and Azpi?
+1
I think Mane & Azpi because Arsenal’s attack has so many options. Will Walcott play up top and rotate with Giroud? Will he be rotated in the midfield? What happens when Sanchez is healthy? Too many questions on Wally for me…
So, a half decent 5 mil striker – is there any? Jerome?
Hatters
Odion Ighalo has had a cool pre-season for Watford and should be one of the wide men in behind Deeney.
I thought I was done changing up my team, but here’s my 72849214th draft.
Thoughts?
O’Shea or Matthews?
Cheers
Hey Rubén this is a very good team I would go Matthews for a punt rest looks great. 😉
Hi Silver – Thank you for the feedback! I will go with Matthews.
Team looks good, avatar looks stunning.
So good that we have 6 almost 7 of the same players. 😉
As it stands now. We still have a few days to go til deadline.
Thankfully. I can never make up my mind. 😛
Haha, I know right!? 😉
Better than the stuff my other monkey friend posts. Hahaha. That’s for sure. 😉
Hi Ruben
Earlier I was reading something in the Sundeland Echo that our good friend Cookie pointed me to. It was only the opinion of the sports journalist that the line-up for the Hannover friendly would be the starting line-up versus Leicester.
I’ve gone really cold on Matthews now, which is a shame. Helpfully pointed out to me and just passing it on. I’m changing to Coates.
GP do you thk Coates over Matthews what about O Shea .
Silvers
From what I read it might be Coates and Kaboul

Current team, what y’all think?
Descent team, I mean decent team. 😉
Why is everyone picking Francis over Mings? Mings is young and very tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much is Anya? Anya a starter? And please do explain, who is this Anya?
Anya was a starter at Watford last season and could be the same again this season (I’m hoping) He’s a right winger and is seriously seriously fast. He pops up with the occasional assist/ goal, just need him to be a starter for him to work. I’m trying to figure out if’s it’s work worth dropping a mid down to get Cech. Either Wally to ozil/ santi or Mane to tadic /chadli
I just looked it up, Anya started 27 games last year and got subbed on in 8, he got a total of 7 assist’s but no goals, the year before 7 goals and 8 assists in 29 starts and 6 subs
Raz
Duthers has it right. Apart from he is left-sided. Don’t see him playing every game.
Who Mings or Anya? He still hasn’t told why Francis over Mings. >.<
Mings will play very game right?
Just missed out the mings/ Francis bit, woops. Honestly i picked Francis cause i saw him a lot more teams than mings so assumed Mings might not be a starter, could have it wrong thought.
Raz
Mings left back for AFCB
Anya left winger/left back for Watford.
Evening all. So i’m getting ever nearer to the below average first game week that i seek with passion and i think i’ve nailed it! 😉
Thoughts on this? I am counting out City until GW4 – my reasoning being – It’s either Depay or Sterling but Depay has better fixtures until GW4. Gomez is a risk and Oxford is just a name (or place) either way i’m not going there and for good reason 😉
Tadic & Milner & Gomez -> Clyne & Sinclair & Mane?!?!
Doesn’t really work for me in GWK 2 but it sounds good!
Hey MadHatter – I like your team.
You’re aware of the risk you’re taking with Gomez, so I’m gonna mention that you have a 7.0 player sitting on your bench. Is your plan to play Milner over Wilson in GW2 and play a 3-5-2 formation?
Spot on mate
I’m gonna have a couple experiment teams. last year I did a similar one to this that focused more on Attack at the start of the season, but I quickly got bored of it. However I took a lot more 4pt hits with that one and it did better than my main team.
I’ll make another team with no Aguero and no Chelsea players. but this one first
more expensive attack I mean 😉
Yeah, I did that once. Had a season with 2 teams, my second season. Was my worst season by far. Had a team for the Dutch league and one for FF247. Was a shite year, worst ranking ever. One team started with RvP (whom was 13,5m back then, like Kun is 13m now) and one without him. In the end the balanced team without RvP won. And yeah, RvP sucked that season.
Last year was one of my worst years probably because I was focusing too much on both teams, this year my main team is my focus and the other teams are just shitty experiment teams just for laughs like you can see above
I will take hits without caring etc.
OMG i cannot wait for this to start and I am already dreading the International break lmao
