Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 24 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15

Captain picksOn any normal transfer deadline day nothing would have trumped Carlisle United’s procurement of Nathan Buddle from Blyth Spartans. But like a crossbar shuddering from a Geoff Hurst thunderbolt, the football world is still reverberating from the impact of Monday’s biggest story; Man Utd’s signing of defender Andy Kellet on loan from Bolton. When asked whether he’d still retain his 3-5-2 formation in light of this capture, Louis van Gaal mumbled, “But of course. We are in a bad moment like Queens Park Raisins. Kellet will make the youth team strong. This is football.”
If you went for Harry Kane as captain last week, one of Calvin Clyne’s tips, you’ll have been rewarded handsomely with a 26 point haul. Gambles on Cazorla and Walters would have been ever sweeter, shovelling 34 or 38 points respectively your way.
So to Gameweek 24. The fact that Andy Kellet hasn’t made it into today’s Captain Picks is testament to the quality of the quintet that has. Right, shall we?

[/three_fourth]5. Theo Walcott (away vs Spurs)
He’s back, and just like nearly every other comeback he’s made, it caught most of us off guard.
After a few rusty cameo appearances from the bench, Theo already looks ready to stake a claim on our hearts, minds and most importantly a return to our FPL squads. He bagged a goal in his first league start in over a year, showing glimpses of the explosive form that brought him 14 goals and 13 assists in 2012/13. Having clocked up over 140 minutes including his FA Cup stint versus Hull, it would seem that Arsenal’s road runner is finally ready for the end of season run-in.

4. Harry Kane (home vs Arsenal)
Spurs biggest signing of the transfer window was getting ‘one of their own’, and former Arsenal fan, Harry Kane to pen a new five-and-a-half year contract at The Lane, taking his tenure through to the end of the decade. Genuine 2020 vision. Of course, what will probably happen is he’ll be bought by Man City in 2 years and rebranded as Citizen Kane. Enough of the future hypotheticals. Right now, ‘Dirty Sanchez’ is in danger of being overshadowed by North London’s own sharpshooting Dirty Harry. A winning goal against the Gunners would surely embalm him eternally in Spurs folklore. Banking on a captain in the unique cauldron of a derby is a gamble. You’ve got to ask yourself, ‘Do I feel lucky?’. Well, do ya, punk?

[/three_fourth]3. Eden Hazard (away vs Aston Villa)
How new recruit Cuadrado will affect Chelsea’s offensive dynamics remains to be seen, but one imagines very positively. Hazard’s productivity shows no sign of waning, with or without the addition of a pacy Colombian at Villa Park. Mourinho has often criticized, and been criticized for, teams that park the bus. Well, against a bottom of the form table Villa side that has failed to score in 10 hours and only netted 11 times all season, he can probably get away with parking a tricycle inconspicuously next to one of the fire exits. Another defeat in the manner of their 5-0 Emirates mauling, this time within the less forgiving walls of his home crowd, could see the much maligned manager finally doing the Lambert Walk. His main antagonist will be Hazard, who has recently proven with goals at Southampton and Spurs that Stamford Bridge is no longer the only Garden of Eden.

[/three_fourth]2. David Silva (home vs Hull)
Following 3 straight defeats, fans of injury-ravaged Hull City will be hoping their players don’t show the same generosity that saw them contribute heavily to their own downfall against Newcastle. That’s if they can even get the ball off David Silva to begin with. Gran Canaria’s pocket-sized performer grabbed his 7th goal at Chelsea last Saturday, already equalling his career-best in the Premier League. An instinctive poke diverting a wayward Aguero shot back on course means we can now add poaching to his armoury of weapons. For the alliteration addicts at large, that makes him a poking, pocket-sized, poaching performer. For the FPL addicts at large, that makes him captaincy gold.

[/three_fourth]1. Sergio Aguero (home vs Hull)
With the exception of Chelsea’s game at Villa Park, Man City’s fixture is quite arguably the only match of the weekend that looks predictable. What seems even more predictable is that Aguero will bag a nice wedge of FPL points. Yes, yes, he hasn’t scored since his return from his latest injury, but they’ve been against Chelsea and Arsenal. He’s played a modest 1,247 minutes in all so far this season, notching 14 goals with 4 assists. That’s a goal every 89 minutes! So there you have it. He is literally guaranteed to score against Steve Bruce’s timid Tigers who’ve conceded 11 without reply in the last 3 games. The only sane reason not to captain Sergio Aguero is if you don’t have him.

Morning Shamim Silva for me I assume you don’t have Kun , bad move in lg term leave Tadic in who are the rest of your MF

      SHAMIM says:

This is my team..i dont know to make who as a captain..i put downing in bench because his team will face MU..I also doubt on austin because he will face southampton..walters also gave a good match..so what your opinion??

      • The Mighty Whites says:

        Shamim,

I think you need Kun in, some way or another. There’s too much money in your defense. I’d get rid of Skrtel for PVA and maybe even think of getting rid of Clichy? I’d downgrade Downing and this might give you enough to upgrade Austin/ Ings to Aguero.

What do you guys think of this wildcard team?

      The Mighty Whites says:

Hacko – My only concern with your team is your lack of Chelsea defensive coverage. If I was you I’d downgrade Coutinho and then upgrade one of your defenders to JT. Also I’d get Krul/ Pants as a back-up ‘keeper in case Ospina loses his place (not that I think he will in the near future).

      Silverback says:

Morning Hacko not much wrong with this team only suggestion would be Jones > Kelly or double up on Ars Bellerin & Corut > sterling I would say your good to go good luck

      • Hacko says:

Thanks silver, I’m happy with continho he’s a differential and has come in to form with Sturridge back, so taking a bit of a punt on him so don’t really see the point of removing jones given utds fixtures and I already have 3 arsenal, cheers!!!

Best midfielder for 5.9 & less? Getting Downing out, thinking Puncheon, Walters or Larsson?

    • 45.1
      SHAMIM says:

dont forget ELIA..downing is very good..no need to out him

    • 45.2
      Hacko says:

I’d probably go with puncheon, has the most attacking threat out of those for me

      • The Mighty Whites says:

        Hacko,

Shamim made a good point about Elia. You think he’d be a good move or is he a rotation risk?

        • SHAMIM says:

I think he will be rotation risk..you will enter him when his team will face the lower club

        • The Mighty Whites says:

          Shamim,

You not think he’s worth a punt as he’s played 60+ minutes in his first 3 matches? My only concern is Mane and him competing for the same position.

        • Whites,

Remember they also now have picked up Djuricic on loan from Benfica who is an attacking midfielder/number ten as well. I think you may see a fair bit of rotation in the Southampton attacking area of the field.

I was going to bring in Elia this week due to his price and being decent value for an attacker in an established club but I think I may just stick with Pelle who I think is assured.

        • The Mighty Whites says:

          GP,

Good point, forgot about him! Would you get rid of Downing? Im think I’m going to do Pelle to Giroud but need 0.3 to fund this and think it’s his time to go with his fixtures coming up.

          De Gea – Krul

          Terry – Fonte – Wollscheid – Keane – Wisdom

Sanchez – Di Maria – Fabregas – Downing – Boyd

          Aguero – Pelle – Kane.

        • Whites,

Wouldn’t blame you on going for Giroud or losing Downing although I do personally think Downing might go steady and probably will still pick up an assist or two even though the fixtures are tough as you say. It all comes down to who you think will be more explosive over the next six games whilst Downing is supposedly up against it.

Who are you considering for his replacement?

I assume you want to stick with DDG despite the lack of CSs? Ospina seems to be making a bit of appeal just now and has good fixtures coming up.

        • The Mighty Whites says:

          GP,

I suppose he could still do ok. I was thinking Larsson, Walters or Puncheon. However, looking at it, for his price, Downing is still good value.

You think Ospina will keep his place for the long run?

        • Whites,

I don’t see why not. He is in the team and collecting clean sheets, you have Krul as a back-up anyway just in case. It could be a risk worth taking for just £4.8M.

For almost a million more, DDG isn’t worth it on current form I don’t think.

        • The Mighty Whites says:

          GP,

I suppose you’re right! Pelle to Giroud and DDG to Ospina this GW then?

        • Whites

Would be your call only if you feel it could work. I think it could but trust your own instincts.

Certainly the Giroud move seems completely fine to me and I fancy Ospina could still be brilliant value at £4.8M
