Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 25 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15
Gameweek 24 was a mixed bag for captaincy candidates. Walcott returned a one point cameo from the bench; Silva left empty-handed; while teammate Aguero contributed a paltry 5 points. Eden Hazard continued his march up the scoring charts with a handsome 10 points. Once more, however, the limelight was stolen by Harry Kane who, for those ‘punks’ who were ‘feeling lucky’ accrued double digits for the second consecutive game.
This week throws up a few, how to put this, potentially less balanced fixtures. But then, that was said about Man City vs Hull City, so who really knows what will happen? With Man Utd and Arsenal having irresistible home fixtures, can Fantasy Football managers afford to overlook them? Take a look at this week’s top 5 and decide for yourself.

[/three_fourth]5. Sergio Aguero (away vs Stoke)
Well, that wasn’t in the script. Against a well organised Hull outfit, the Argentinian failed to light up the Etihad as expected. While his meager assist was scant consolation for the thousands that captained Aguero, shocks like this are, after all, why we love football. 4 games without a goal in 2015 makes worrying reading for more than a quarter of FPL managers, but this is no Benteke-esque drought. Far from being bereft of near-misses, or starved of decent chances, Sergio has still looked capable of scoring. The Britannia won’t be an easy place to resume ‘normal’ service, but world class players don’t stay stifled for long.

[/three_fourth]4. Jermaine Defoe (home vs QPR)
Homesickness allegedly drove Defoe to depart Toronto FC and head for Sunderland, a mere… 275 miles north of his hometown in East London. No matter the reason, Poyet has potentially saved the Mackems from relegation peril by hiring this prolific marksman. Adding to the over-saturated market of quality budget strikers, Defoe joins the likes of Kane and Austin as £6m sharp-shooters. 2 goals and an assist in his first 3 games back in England suggest there’s more to come against a hapless QPR side who know all about homesickness. Having notched 5, 6 and 7 points respectively so far, you may as well add Jermaine’s 8 points on right now.

[/three_fourth]3. Harry Kane (away vs Liverpool)
A trip to Anfield against a galvanised Liverpool defence isn’t an ideal fixture for a captain. But on current form how can a top 5 not include Spurs’ super Harry Kane? 10 goals in 9 games. 2 goals against Chelsea. 2 goals against Arsenal. Clearly this season’s FPL phenomenon, Kane is already approaching coveted ‘fixture-proof’ status. Far from being a mere penalty-area predator, the striker is showing genuine talent in every aspect of his play. Roy Hodgson won’t be able to resist giving the 21 year-old his first England cap. I dare say many out there won’t be able to resist captaining him.

[/three_fourth]2. Robin van Persie (home vs Burnley)
Let’s face it. Robin van Persie has become unfashionable. There are, naturally, a number of contributory factors. His unconvincing displays under Moyes; his perceived lack of motivation; the increased competition for places; his greying hair. Premier League observers have been left asking what’s happened to the flying Dutchman that scored when he wanted? Surprising as though it may seem, RvP has RSVP’d this SOS. While the forwards ahead of him in the FPL charts have been rightly getting the plaudits, our mate from Rotterdam has sneaked into the top 6. His last 11 starts have tallied 6 goals and 2 assists. Over the season as a while, 56 of his 93 points have come at Old Trafford. Up next is a Burnley team whose only away clean sheet came at Palace in September. Sometimes being unfashionable is the coolest thing to do.

[/three_fourth]1. Olivier Giroud (home vs Leicester)
Cazorla, Sanchez, Walcott, Ramsey, Ozil, Welbeck. What Wenger doesn’t lack is depth in attacking options. Of course this is wonderful for him, but a nightmare for us. Figuring out who will be next in line for their turn at the buffet is nigh on impossible. However, while the musical chairs midfield continues to revolve behind him, Olivier Giroud is Arsene’s go-to guy up front when the music stops; plate in hand, shovelling food onto his plate oblivious to the chaos. The Frenchman’s problem this season hasn’t been productivity, it’s been availability. When he’s not undergoing physiotherapy, he’s serving silly suspensions. This is all too evident in his stats. Only 779 minutes played, yet an impressive 7 goals and 2 assists. 6.5 points per 90 minutes is a remarkable return given his sporadic appearances. Leicester’s 9 defeats on the road is eclipsed only by QPR. Whichever lineup Wenger opts for, you can be sure Giroud will be at the spearhead stuffing his face.

So kept the same team for the last two game weeks and accumulated 150 points, I have 2 transfers and 0.1 in the bank
Teams as follows;
Krul/Given
Terry/Clyne/Wisdom/Jones/Baird
WardProwse/Henderson/Hazard/Carzola/Sanchez
Costa/Giroud/Kane
My plan is to swap Clyne for Vertognen and Carzola for Eriksen for the double spurs week…I want to free up some money to bring back Costa so any suggestions…
Defoe for Giroud? Henderson for Colback?Jones for VAP?
Help???
Do you already have Costa ?? Wait till tomorrow night when the teamsheets come out for that nights games to decide what to do with Sanchez.I’d be more inclined to lose Jones than Clyne and maybe look to get rid of Wisdom for P.V.A..
I meant I have aguero not costa…I wont have enough money for Vertognen if I swap hime for Jones
Then how about Rose instead ? Though he could be at risk of rotation with Davies.
G’day guys, hope everyone had a good gameweek.
Any ideas/thoughts on my team? I have 1FT and 1.3k in the bank. Looking to get rid of Wasilewski and Pieters in the next few weeks. Don’t mind taking a hit. Was thinking of going:
Pieters – Van Aanholt
Wasilewski – Bellerin
Thoughts?
Evening Tom – nah, wouldn’t take a hit this week. With 1.3m in the bank you’ve got plenty of options. I don’t mind PVA as you suggested, but certainly no need for a hit, unless Sanchez and Chadli aren’t playing (you can see line-ups before the deadline this week) in which case make another transfer.
I might go Wasilewski-PVA then
Maybe just do Pieters to Bellerin, play him and leave Was on the bench.
+1
good point. Cheers guys
Hi all,
Not the best week for me, 51 points with Silva, Di Maria, Downing, Terry – 2 points;
Heaton – 1, Wisdom – 0 no playing subs
Have 1FT and £1.2 Bank.
Who will I improve?
Captain – Hazard or Giroud for me.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Anyone?
Respect
I’d maybe hang on to the transfer and captain Giroud.
Probably will keep FT this week, but really don’t know about captain. Hazard is on fire and I think he is the best MID at the moment in PL and with Costa out he is the one who takes all the points, at home he is unstoppable, not sure what will I do, maybe risk and do something different this GW.
Respect
It is a close one. Hazard may be the man. I’m undecided myself. 😉
I’d bin Di Maria and get an Arsenal mid in.
TEAM NEWS: @Alexis_Sanchez will be back in the group. There were no injuries from the north London derby #AFCvLCFC
Mmmmmh….still waiting before having a smile on my face. He might just be benched and play the odd 13 minutes…
King fu, where’s that from mate?
Hey NZ! From the FPL twitter feed when you log in! And also you can find it on the Mirror. Wenger has had his press conference already it seems. Yes. he is an early bird!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-press-conference-live-arsene-5130798
Kung, as one of those who ditched him for a hit last week it will be a right kick in the teeth if he comes good this week!!
Sanchez is back ib the squad for tomorrows game – Wenger said he was sorely missed this last w/e
Then I say you better get him right in again haha! Naah let us see the starting line up first. If he doesn’t start it would be a waste to have him on the bench for the 3rd week in a row regardless of how good he is! My gut says that Wenger might not want to risk him especially at home vs Leicester. So I will have to sell him. With all the attacking options the Gunners have it would be in theory wise to invest in some one cheaper such as wally…in theory…we will be a lot of nervous managers waiting for the line ups tomorrow!
Hey guys, this is my team:
De Gea
Bellerin, Hutton, van Aanholt
Hazard, Walcott, Silva, Chadli
Giroud, Kane, Aguero
Thinking Walcott will start this time? If not that was 4 points hugely wasted last GW. Sanchez is back?
@TJ, I think you are set assuming everyone starts. I keep a close eye on that Arsenal team sheet, if Theo doesn’t start tomorrow than us owners will be in trouble going forward. Also make sure you got cover for Bellerin, who might get rested. Luckily we will see team sheets for Arsenal.
Morning all.
I need to get rid of Pocognoli today. He goes down in price tonight and he isn’t getting a sniff in the team in any case. Still got Foster in any event. Also have Pantillimon but I’m considering PVA as the replacement for Pocognoli.
Pantillimon/Foster
Hutton/Terry/Wollscheid/Bellerin/Pocognoli
Cazorla/Sanchez/Hazard/Fabregas/Boyd
Aguero/Kane/Pelle
I would probably play double Sunderland tomorrow if I go ahead.
1FT and 0.8M in the bank.
Any suggestions?
Double up on sunderland fir this gw or think about future blank/double gw when 2 free transfers will give You advantage :p
szatan
I think double this week may work. Sunderland have decent fixtures ahead to be honest.
I have plans for the blank gameweek which will be to bench Terry, Hazard and Kane and sell Fabregas for a week.
