Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15
Just when you were still agonising and dissecting GW27 and had thoughts of spending days planning your next move, stop right there! GW28 starts on Tuesday, yep it’s another quick turnaround for us Fantasy addicts. Truly no rest for the wicked. Now I don’t know if you have heard but GW28 is actually DGW28 (*quiz show style ‘Wooooooo’*). Traditionally this sees us FPL managers purr at the delight of a huge weekly score. However, DGW28 only sees two sides playing twice, namely QPR and Spurs, so the opportunity for a blockbuster score may be limited, but one lives in hope with many pinning there captaincy badge on the obvious Harry Kane. But there are other candidates for the brave and those looking to go against the crowd – maybe a Spurs alternative, a gamble on Rangers, or maybe ignore the DGW and select someone with just one match, but an attractive one at that. So let’s have a quick glance at the fixtures and investigate the best choices for the armband this week.
The Fixtures
Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion
Hull City v Sunderland
Southampton v Crystal Palace
Manchester City v Leicester City
Newcastle United v Manchester United
Queens Park Rangers v Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea City
Stoke City v Everton
West Ham United v Chelsea
Liverpool v Burnley
Queens Park Rangers v Tottenham Hotspur
Now as mentioned above, GW28 contains our first double game week of the season in which QPR and Tottenham play two matches in one week.
The R’s have both games at home – firstly vs Arsenal on Wednesday and then against Tottenham on FA Cup Quarter Final Saturday (7th March). Spurs face Swansea at the Lane on Wednesday and then travel to play QPR on Saturday.
General fantasy consensus dictates that you cover both teams appropriately (not quite six but not quite none) and maybe three would be the ideal number. Funnily enough I bet you, like me, know which three will be the most popular. Unsurprisingly, these three are involved in the seven to follow for GW28:
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Christian Eriksen – The sighs could be heard in the fantasy world at high noon last week when the Great Dane was left on the bench for the jellied eel derby against West Ham. Of course, as soon as Tottenham were struggling, Pinocchio turned to his best playmaker and brought him on at half time. Now if you could guarantee me he would play 180 minutes in the DGW, then I’d transfer him in and captain him. Tottenham have had many plates to spin with the League Cup Final, a double header in the league, as well as their trip to Florence on Europa League duty last week. In his favour, Eriksen has a taste for scoring important late goals so if he is on the bench, chances are that even if he does appear late on he could still weigh in.
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Harry Kane – For Harry Kane, read much of Christian Eriksen – lots of important games coming up and already played. The big difference? Eriksen can be rotated with competent midfielders such as Townsend, Dembele, Lamela etc. Kane has Adebayor and Soldado and therefore I say Hurrikane starts both league games. So Swansea and QPR ahead for a boy who has scored twice against Chelsea and Arsenal and once versus Liverpool? Yes please. The favourite and likely to lead every Capo poll in the world this week!
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Charlie Austin – QPR’s only viable option? You bet. The Hoops have both matches at home and at least that is in their favour. Austin has done it against the big boys. The likelihood is that many will perhaps bring him in but not captain him. It might be prudent to take a second glance though – fourteen league goals and nine of them at Loftus Road. And he is guaranteed to play both games and if Rangers are to stay up, it’ll largely be on the back of Austin’s returns.
Now for the rest of these guys, can they do in one game what the others can in two? It’s not impossible and strange as it may seem, the following names may be in the ‘differential’ captain category.
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Santi Cazorla – The Arsenal penalty taker with Arteta out injured. Santi seems to be secured in the team after a period last season where it seemed his obvious brilliance couldn’t find its place in Arsene’s team. He has only failed to play 90 minutes in one of the last fourteen matches and could be the points beneficiary of all those intricate Arsenal penalty box plays when QPR act all clumsily defensively (in my mind).
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Sergio Aguero – He’s back, for now. The brilliant striker is at the ‘default’ captain stage (taking Luis Suarez’ mantle) and providing he stays fit, he could be your captain from now until the end. It so happens that at home, City could take five off of anyone (don’t feel too bad Newcastle, although you did make it sooooo easy for them!). Next up at the Etihad are leaky Leicester with just four clean sheets in 26. Were this not a DGW, Aguero would surely be captained by everyone.
David Silva – Well you know the fixture but what does Silva offer – well he has a great eye for goal (already he has beaten his best ever season for league goals) and almost everything for the Sky Blues goes through him. He was very unlucky not to get the chance for a hat-trick against Newcastle by being substituted and could again find the space to nick another couple against the league’s bottom side. City looked to be back to their best going forward in that Newcastle game (not so much in the Liverpool one!) and a happy and confident Silva could be your cheeky differential captain this week.
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Daniel Sturridge – A home game against Burnley on paper could be the very game where the England striker (apologies to Reds for mentioning the national team in the same sentence) properly announces his return to the Kop. Being brought back in slowly after a bad run of injuries means that his game time in matches has been erratic. Having managed 106 minutes against Besiktas (away) on Thursday he was then only used as a late sub against Man City coming on after 76 minutes. If you think he is due to start the Burnley match – which he probably will, then he could be groovy-dancing more than once in this one.
Traffic Signals:
RED: (Take a punt): Charlie Austin
AMBER (Proceed with caution): Sergio Aguero
GREEN: (If you have him, armband him): Harry Kane
Enjoy your football, enjoy your fantasy football and enjoy your DGW.

Evening all how are we lots of players dropping in price thk it’s a bit crazy anyone else
Hi all
Not a clue what to do!
Have 1FT but only 0,4m in the bank.
Sort of want Rose for Baird but seems very ‘one week punt’ to me and Spurs aren’t a team you want three players from (sorry ;))
Di Maria to go? Who for?
Or…do nothing?
Pants
McShane Bellerin Bertrand
Haz Eriksen ADM Sanchez
Giroud Aguero Kane
Krul Wollschied JWP Baird
Hi AT
Even with the DGW Silva is a good shout for ADM
Cheers Tomo, yes that’s a good shout..just not sure about Silva and how he’ll set up with Bony in the side.
AT
I’ve just checked on FFFix and Silva is due to go up tonight and ADM is due to go downstairs!
That’s down and not downstairs ( auto correct strikes again)
ADM to Silva? City at home to Leicester should probably call for double attacking coverage, plus they have a decent run of fixtures following
Evening all, got 1ft + 2.9 mill itb, already did Defoe to Kane earlier, what should my 2nd ft be ?
Think about getting Danny rose in for Baird who only features for the last few minutes in recent fixtures…
Just to be different how about ward-prowse to Chadli ? He didn’t get any minutes at all for Southampton at the weekend and is a problem for you so is worth the gamble in my opinion.
Hi Elle, given what’s in the bank does Cazorla to Erik leave enough for Giroud to Costa at some point?
Yip Init, could do that, still leaves the JWP problem. Sort that out for me please.
Final Wild Card
Hey folks, am planning on using my wild card to take advantage of the double game week and good fixtures: These are my changes, please feedback… cheers
Out—————In
Downing ——Eriksen
Elia————- Chadli
Cresswell——McAuley
Baird————Haidara
Wouldn’t waste my wildcard on those transfers.Hang on to it for now.Downing to Erikson for this week is fine.
Hi smooth, is it just those 4 changes that would be done? If so I honestly think you have enough there already not to have to use it just yet. Downing to Erik this week means all you are missing is Chadli really as I doubt you play Haidara v Utd over what you have already and you’ve already covered WBA with Foster.
So basically what I said !!! :p
I’m a slow typer :p
very useful points lads.. exactly my dilama.. I might just do the Erikson move for downing and keep my wild card till the chelsea double gameweek
Best replacement for Di Maria (0,4m)
Or should I chase the DGW more? Have two with two fixtures (erik and Kane)
Depends what the rest of your team is ?
Apologies, forgot to link!
Silva. Or you could try Silva, or, if you fancy a flutter you could have a go at Silva and hope for the best. The choice is yours. Choose wisely 😉
Yes…. get silver in if you can
Hahahah, I think I may go against everything you have said and pick Silva…thoughts? 😉
Stupid move if you ask me.You should get Silva !!
Screw it, I’ve gone with Silva. I think the differential type of signing it is should work wonders…Wonder why no one else suggested him… 😉
Still torn over getting City or Spurs cover into my midfield. Current lineup:
Foster (Myhill)
Terry, PVA, Bertrand, Jones, Naughton
Santi, Alexis, Hazard, Puncheon, JWP
Aguero, Kane, Austin
I have 1 FT and 1.6m in the bank. Options I’m considering:
1) Sanchez and Punch > Silva and Eriksen…..the most to gain, but the highest cost I think
2) Cazorla and Jones > Silva/Eriksen and Danny Rose….not sure this is worth the hit?
3) Just pick one of Silva or Eriksen….?
This has confused me all day…anyone else resolved the “dropping Arsenal for City/Spurs” conundrum??!
I’m even considering Caz and Haz > Yaya and Eriksen…is that madness?
I’d stay away from Yaya for now.
Or how about taking a punt and doing ward prowse to Chadli ??
You had my curiosity…now you have my attention!
And leave it at that then? Or also switch one of the Arsenal guys out for Silva/Erik? I am concerned about Chadli’s game time but then JWP isn’t playing much…
Brooky, you told me to take a punt on Chadli, at this rate every bugger will have him.
Hi Pippin. I binned Cazorla for Eriksen, for what it’s worth. Alexis has been frustrating the life out of me recently but i decided to give him another go against QPR. As for deciding between Eriksen and Silva.. errrrm… nope. Cant do it
Thanks NIN. I’m really struggling to consider dropping Sanchez (though I know Cookie for one has done it weeks ago, and not been harmed at all). Santi leaves me less room to manouvre due to his low cost. Maybe I could stick with just Kun for this week, and if City look like they’re waking up, move along Alexis > Yaya/Silva next week?
So I could do JWP & Santi > Chadli & Eriksen, really chase the DGW….
I kept Sanchez and dropped Santi. Sanchez is class like Kun, Silva, Hazard, Kane. For me those players are musts.
though that would mean benching Puncheon (who looks good I think!) or Hazard….?
Not for me. I binned Santi. I’m keeping Alexis/Silva/Hazard. Eriksen is temp but he will remain for a few games, they just have good games so that’s cool. After this GW I need to fix my defenders first. Open up some cash for Costa. Think Chelsea have 2 hard fixtures with WHU away and Soton Home. I will get Toby after the Chelsea game.
Could work out great, but i think i’d save the hit and just do one or the other. Hazard is not an option for the subs bench. Not this GW, not ever. Way too consistent.
Thanks to y’all. I will get in Eriksen for Santi tonight, and worry over a hit or not tomorrow. Switching off now- have a great evening folks!
(agree Haz, Sanchez are class btw)
