Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 37 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15
“One more double for the road . . . .”
Two weeks and the English Fantasy Football will be over for another season. But as a famous philosopher once posed, Why Do All Good Things Come To An End?*. Fear not people, we do have the Copa America in the summer and there is bound to be a fantasy game for that. If not, I have a South American correspondent who can knock a game up for us. Mito mate, on an unrelated matter, can you drop me a line? Also some crickety thing apparently . . .
*It was Nelly Furtado in fact.
The last time I wrote a captains article (when I was supposed to!) I was slaughtered for selecting ten players and it was suggested by a few that I was covering my posterior somewhat. I’ll go for fewer this week then, but I still feel with only two weeks to go, I should view from both the Chaser and Chasee standpoints.
For the anoraks among you, you may have noticed that my scheduled week was last week to write this but I was tied up with work unfortunately and this led to the brilliant Lawdogg covering me. If you manage to figure out this captaincy article rotation then answers on a post-it note please.
I’ll set the scene. There was a frosty atmosphere in FF247 Headquarters when I let the plowers-that-be snow that I couldn’t meet my commitment and in all honesty I thought I was on a slippery slope but its ice to know we have the likes of Lawdogg who has the grit and determination to step up and produce an article which was all-white by me. *This sentence was brought to you by ‘CHINS’ WAFFLES’. “You know its true waffle when it’s all over your Chins”.
The Fixtures

Burnley v Stoke City
QPR v Newcastle
Tottenham Hotspur v Hull City
Sunderland v Leicester City
West Ham Utd v Everton
Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Swansea City v Manchester City
Manchester United v Arsenal
West Brom v Chelsea
Arsenal v Sunderland

[/three_fourth]Alexis Sanchez – Well it’s generally accepted that when there is a DGW, you captain someone with two matches. There is a man who may be the exception to the rule (more of that later). What else do you need? Well one home match at least? Yup. Playing in a team that have something still riding on their games? Yup. Playing in a team creating multiple chances? Yup. Being arguably the best player in that team? Yup. All of the previous describe Arsenal and specifically Alexis Sanchez. The lethal Chile international will be aiming to finish the season like a train, get Arsenal into second (a Premiership title to them!) and get back to the form of pre-Christmas where he was red-hot. He has posted double-digit returns eight times this season including 15 the last time out. The kind of guy who could score well despite it being Manchester United away so if he can nick something there, it sets up beautifully the Sunderland match at home. Surely the most popular choice from the Gunners.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Aaron Ramsey – This of course is assuming that he is fit and ready for 180 minutes in the game week and who can predict that? What is going for the midfielder is his recent scores where he has 9, 12 and 11 in the last five and looking like the Ramsey of last season when he was absolute gold in the fantasy world. His ninety minute appearance in the Swansea match was encouraging fitness-wise and now we must wait for subsequent news from The Voyeur on his reaction which will offer an insight as to whether you side with the Welshman.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Olivier Giroud – Well his recent form isn’t tearing any trees up as he has blanked in his last four. Before that he was on his lethal run of six consecutive games of scoring which included a double at Newcastle and in this run he grabbed ten bonus points. Welbeck is injured so he has the striking role to himself and with an embarrassingly good supply line behind him, this DGW could be where we see the Gorgeous Gallic Goal-getter. . . . er . . . get goals? Scored against United earlier in the season.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Sergio Aguero – Now as I mentioned above, there is a man who can single-handedly and single-gamedly send your gameweek in to the reaches of fantasy dreamland. Sergio Aguero would be that man. As almost every fantasy manager will be toying between their Arsenal contingent for the armband, the man who produced a captains 46 (FORTY SIX) points this past weekend, is likely to be overlooked simply because he only plays once. Well he only played once on Sunday against QPR! Will you know better, hold your nerve and back the striker to continue to blitz the opposition away to Swansea? The enticing catch here is that if you do and he goes off once more and Arsenal don’t, you might actually make ground with an Aguero captaincy as strange as that sounds.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]David Silva – Well for those who captained Silva this past weekend, he nabbed you 32 points which is excellent going for a goal, two assists and 2 bonus points. Much like Aguero, this could be a captaincy call which could pay dividends if he matches previous tallies of 16 (now twice), 17, 14 and 11. The Spaniard is six points short of beating his best ever points total in the fantasy game and he’ll beat that over the next two I’m sure. This may be a call for those chasing a small mini-league deficit but for the way Silva can go off in games and an uncanny ability to snare the bonus points (stockpile of 27 and bettered only by Hazard and Sanchez), he could be your man as you roll the dice.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Harry Kane – You’ll see below that I call him a ‘punt’ and if this was earlier in the season you would have laughed at me. Well more than usual. But the England International (isn’t it always the way that those Three Lions seem to normally derail a player when he seems to be at his best?) is not in the best of form (blame Hodgson). Hurrikane hasn’t scored since his hat-trick at home to Leicester. Well he scored one against Newcastle but so does everyone so you can count that if you are desperate. Even that was four weeks ago. The lad is just off the boil and it’s maybe not just him, Spurs themselves seem to have downed-tools for the season. But next it’s almost-relegated Hull at home and in a week where many are selling him, if you hold him and you need to strike now to win a mini-league, the Walthamstow lad may well just have a final home game of the season going away present for The Lane faithful and if you captain him, you may well be the cat who got the cream.

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Jermaine Defoe – The other participant in the final DGW of the season is Sunderland. There will be a few of us holding Pantillimon, van Aanholt and Brown (save your best gags for last they say). You get the point. There won’t be a stampede to get Black Cats’ coverage but if you are looking towards their strikers for a sideways shift from Vardy, Ulloa, or even Kane or Benteke, then Defoe seems the best bet. The guy scores goals and always has. This guy is captaincy material . . . . if you are 100 points behind in your mini-league. You’re 200 behind? Some guy called Wickham then.

Traffic Signals:
RED: (Take a punt): Harry Kane
AMBER (Proceed with caution): Aaron Ramsey
GREEN: (If you have him, armband him): Alexis Sanchez/Sergio Aguero*
*Can’t split them and they are my traffic lights, so my rules, OK?

**Final thought**
It’s been a pleasure writing these articles for you this season and I’m using this paragraph to say a massive thank you to the guys behind this site. In no particular order (except by how much they paid me for their listing….) Inittowinit, Cookie, Mito, Kop Warrior and Floydeth have created a site which is loved by so many. It is such a friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable site with a great array of characters as a supporting cast.
Shout out too to my “Captains Bros” – Chins, Bryan Munich, Calvin Clyne and Lawdogg who have just nailed every article they have put out. Word. You get me?
On that note, if you’re reading this, and you have something that could be published that you think is worthy, then email the team because if it’s got a place, they will find a place. They rarely say no so if you have an idea, the guys would love to hear from you.
Good luck in the final two weeks, stick around the site and have a great summer. I’ll be back advising you on captain choices next season (unless you behave!)
Enjoy your football!

Great stuff GP! If I wasn’t leading my ML I really like your reasons for Aguero and would pick him but as I’m clear i’ll go with Sanchez as I believe he’ll be the most popular choice out of the arsenal mids.
What to do? I feel terrible I don’t have Ramsey but this is the squad I have to deal with. You guys think I’m set for GW37? Have 0FT’s left and 0.3m in the bnak.
Good article by the way. Reason I was talking about Ramsey and showed my team was because of the article. Ramsey is giving me a headache. But taking an 8 point hit for me won’tmake sense. Because you will hate yourself in the end. 😉
Aah yes, though I love the article I don’t really believe in Defoe, Sunderland playing him as fullback and all. I’ll stick with the 2 defenders from Sunderland, which is already a risk.
Hey Raz go on take the 8 point hit I might have a chance of catching you then
I see you have the same problem. No Ramsey. It hurts, doesn’t it?
Raz, you really think Ramsey is the essential one? I am having my own ordeal over whether missing Giroud is the way to go… I think I may get three midfielders but am concerned they’ll share the points thinly…
Of course, if they play like they did against Swans, none of us will get any points
Ramsey looked very dangerous in the Swansea game. It was annoying. :p
I freed up cash to get him. My plan was Sanchez-Ramsey-Giroud, I had the money. Anyway, after Fridays presser I went with Kos instead. Figured Kos had more chance of CS than PvA. HAHAHA! Holy shit. How wrong was I? Anyway, you’re right, can go every way. Annoyingly Ramsey and Giroud sort of look a like from a far distance, so sometimes when I cheer it was Ramsey again shooting on target. HELLA ANNOYING! :p
Afternoon all entertaining as ever Chins great read as always , look forward to those amusing antidotes thanks for all your hard work this yr yes I did say hard work look fwd to nk season cheers mate
GP and Chins the same person SIlverback? >.<
Sorry GP cant read :cuckoo:
That’s not nice to say. I am sure he can….probably
Yeah, that’s a really mean thing to say. First mixing up names and then claim ”he” is the ”illiterate” one. Geeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. BAD MONKEY!
Now now boys

Like it Raz :big-lol:
No probs, sir.
Thoughts? Opinions?
Should I get Giroud or Defoe/Graham in for the double week? If yes then who from midfield should I leave out? And to get Giroud I will have to take a -4 hit. Thanks!
Hey MayAr it depends if your chasing if their nothing riding on it yes get Giroud in Mata bench but make him first sub if Haz doesn’t play
Not really chasing I would say. I’m 2nd in my league…guy in 1st is 100 points ahead, guy behind me is 30 points behind so I just need to make sure he doesn’t catch up.
MayAr who would you drop for Giroud have you got cash in bank still might be worth a hit
I can sell Bertrand and Murray to get Giroud but it will be with a -4hit
